what a disaster for their marriage

A Little Princess btw (s1ocki), Thursday, 10 May 2012 21:35 (fourteen years ago)

don't really know what i think of all the spur-of-the-moment sex happening in this season, now that i think of it

goole, Thursday, 10 May 2012 21:37 (fourteen years ago)

she won't tolerate being bossed around and dominated like Betty did. and she's not into working in advertising. this spells doom for their marriage imho.

i didn't work out so great with Betty tho.

am i the only one who sees a lot of vulnerability beneath meghan's surface? only everyone else thinks she's good at everything she does, i don't think she really believes that.

THESE ARE NOT REAL PEOPLE.

Alba, Thursday, 10 May 2012 22:39 (fourteen years ago)

you're not a real people

Roger Barfing (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 10 May 2012 22:41 (fourteen years ago)

xp - no, but nor are they completely one-dimensional. everything's open to interpretation.

10. “Pour Some Sugar On Me” – Tom Cruise (contenderizer), Thursday, 10 May 2012 22:41 (fourteen years ago)

anytime don goes more than two or three episodes without callously and cruelly throwing a wrench in a personal relationship, i say he's doing good. so far this season, he's doing real good with megan! i hold out hope for a don who accepts megan as a "real person."

also i found megan's reaction to don being chill re: her decision to become an actor... odd. she was grateful to a degree that was probably practical/realistic, but perhaps unhealthy?

phantompenguin, Friday, 11 May 2012 03:50 (fourteen years ago)

well, he's kind of a loaded gun. she was probably just glad he didn't freak out chase her around the apartment with a bat.

10. “Pour Some Sugar On Me” – Tom Cruise (contenderizer), Friday, 11 May 2012 04:10 (fourteen years ago)

Megan does something stupid like decide to try and "make it" as an actress at 25 I just roll my eyes - it is a childish thing for her to do, and she's only able to do it because she has Don as a sugar daddy. It's not really a decision I respect or empathize with.

Could you elaborate more on why you don't respect this decision?

She's not exactly a lazy anti-work slob, so the Don as sugar daddy thing doesn't hold a lot of water for me. If she hadn't worked at the firm then yeah I'd get what you are saying. But this is a pretty well-informed decision, she and Don are married and they talked this through like adults, she has this awesome opportunity and she tried doing things the other way, etc.

The show seems to be structuring this as a legitimate thing she's doing, not just a stupid childish dream. Plus there are a number of things going for her: her husband is the head of an ad agency, she's already networked & showcased her talent with lots of people in that world via birthday song & that last TV ad pitch. Doesn't it seem somewhat likely that she would start showing up in SCDP TV ads or something similar?

Emperor Cos Dashit (Adam Bruneau), Friday, 11 May 2012 17:58 (fourteen years ago)

Doesn't it seem somewhat likely that she would start showing up in SCDP TV ads or something similar?

after explicitly turning down exactly that for Cool Whip in this episode? No, I don't think so. She doesn't want to be in ads, she wants to be on Broadway and in films.

She'd been previously rejected (for her teeth iirc) and she's lost out on a role in an off-off-Broadway production. I can't recall any indication that she was good at this or had received any encouragement. She herself said she hadn't "tried very hard" so maybe that's part of it but in general there's always an abundance of aspiring actresses, and most of them start on their way well before the age of 25 - the odds of her developing a successful acting career are statistically-speaking pretty low.

But who knows, we've already gone over the realism/lack thereof re: other aspects of this show.

Roger Barfing (Shakey Mo Collier), Friday, 11 May 2012 18:09 (fourteen years ago)

and maybe she's JUST THAT GOOD

10. “Pour Some Sugar On Me” – Tom Cruise (contenderizer), Friday, 11 May 2012 18:17 (fourteen years ago)

that too

Roger Barfing (Shakey Mo Collier), Friday, 11 May 2012 18:19 (fourteen years ago)

I do kind of wonder if she's being set up as a kind of sacrificial lamb character - ie, look at how all these horrible people in advertising corrupt/destroy the one non-awful person who wanders into their world

Roger Barfing (Shakey Mo Collier), Friday, 11 May 2012 18:21 (fourteen years ago)

the odds of her developing a successful acting career are statistically-speaking pretty low.

Sure, but the point is that she'd regret it if she didn't at least try. Given her situation (i.e., married to Don), it seems like a good opportunity for her to chase a dream. If she gives it her all and can't make a go of it, then she can go back to advertising or whatever.

Carrie Antwoord (jaymc), Friday, 11 May 2012 18:27 (fourteen years ago)

would be kinda humiliating for her to go back to advertising, no?

Roger Barfing (Shakey Mo Collier), Friday, 11 May 2012 18:28 (fourteen years ago)

Would it? I dunno. She can do whatever she wants; the marriage doesn't need her income.

Carrie Antwoord (jaymc), Friday, 11 May 2012 18:30 (fourteen years ago)

Megan's just being self-actualized

Betty needs to not engage in psychological warfare via her daughter, that's not cool

Shipka ruling this episode.

I hope they're planning on putting in a little dig at Harry in every single episode.

Fas Ro Duh (Gukbe), Monday, 14 May 2012 05:14 (fourteen years ago)

Friction between Don and Ginsberg was A+.

Roger did a great job of at least portraying genuine regret the morning after. Still, that was a dick move.

Shipka ruling this episode.

Leslie Mann: Boner Machine (C. Grisso/McCain), Monday, 14 May 2012 10:25 (fourteen years ago)

I haven't seen the latest episode yet but there's no way that Don will be able to resist casting Actress Megan in a TV ad, right? And that's probably not going to end well.

Homosexual Satan Wasp (Matt DC), Monday, 14 May 2012 12:21 (fourteen years ago)

I don't think Megan has any interest in being in commercials at all. you saw how dismissive she was of her friend for auditioning for dark shadows

he bit me (it felt like a diss) (m bison), Monday, 14 May 2012 12:50 (fourteen years ago)

I'm a huge fan of the running gag about Roger having to hand out wads of cash from his pocket willy-nilly.

I wish to incorporate disco into my small business (chap), Monday, 14 May 2012 16:06 (fourteen years ago)

she already refused to do a TV bit for Heinz why is everybody forgetting this

I'm a huge fan of the running gag about Roger having to hand out wads of cash from his pocket willy-nilly.

Yeah, I hope it happens at least a couple more times this season.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 14 May 2012 16:24 (fourteen years ago)

post-acid Roger is a joy to behold

Sally rulin it this episode. "They showed me pictures" lol

Roger Barfing (Shakey Mo Collier), Monday, 14 May 2012 16:27 (fourteen years ago)

I liked how Ginsberg didn't even have to negotiate. Roger knew where it was headed.
