no, i like it (now i see what i missed) and find it fun but the point stands you've probably got to be a little tighter with zingy "farfetched" once you've now let actual smokebaby type magic out the box

plus he has a sassy demeanour and had all that blarney about his "red god" or whatever last episode, seems like magical signifiers to me

martin definitely does some things other fantasy paperback dudes don't do, and does some things better but sometimes i feel like ppl really seriously want like aaron sorkin's "studio dragonpants on the sunset ruins of winterfell" and are basically complaining that a heavy metal album has loud guitars and guitar solos

anyway awesome at murderin' dude is a kool character

lol, j/k. i get that pulpy tv series is pulpy, but don't always love all elements equally. no slam on the show in general.

I could go for more Downton Abbey crossovers. The first thing I thought of with the ginger wildlin was "oh, that's what the maid with the typewriter ended up doing"

Yeah, who is also the bad guy in Resident Evil: Apocalypse. or maybe Extinction.

I didn't make it that far into the RE series, but it sounds like you just gave me a reason to.

Don't mistake a C-list actor getting work for a stamp of previously unknown quality. They're all terrible films.

2nd one was pretty dope they blew up racoon city come on

no. i rewatched them all two weeks ago. Extinction has one decent scene, but other than that...

very upset over here.

Really loved this one. I'm always surprised at how much I enjoy watching these characters talk to each other. I like the way backstory informs the present.

Also it was kind of perfect that I was really getting fed up with the Harrenhal business because that castle looks like a shithole, why are important people interested, etc...and then Tywin nicely explains it all. Still not sure about Jon Snow and 'er from Downton. I think Jon Snow is kind of shit though - an idiot, really, but hopefully the 'journey' will be interesting.

Fas Ro Duh (Gukbe), Monday, 14 May 2012 06:33 (fourteen years ago)

Was it upsetting? Surely it's not Bronn/his brother nobody cares about. It feels quite obvious that it was those two kids on that farm.

Fas Ro Duh (Gukbe), Monday, 14 May 2012 06:34 (fourteen years ago)

tbh, i think it was abt 300 burned marshmallows

also, it was an intense thing to lay eyes on - orphans or no.

definitely. theon is so out of out his depth.

bran, not bronn. bronn is tyrions sellsword bodyguard.

Maester Luwin's howl as the end there just killed me too.

Porto for Pyros (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Monday, 14 May 2012 14:03 (fourteen years ago)

good scenes with cat and jamie and cersei and sansa. i guess the writers finally found a couple parts of the book they thought worth throwing in. winterfell scenes also strong. alfie is a pretty terrible actor but it kind of works because theon is pretty terrible at what he does too. although still very enjoyable in its own right, that was surely one too many tywin-arya scenes now. just reinforces the feeling that nothing is actually happening. they opened the coin purse for that shot of harrenhal tho, very cool. way too much jon and ygritte wandering. could've achieved the same "character development" with just one scene between them on top of last episode's. not sure what the hell they are doing with that part of the story either. altogether too much screen time for robb's nurse, their relationship another thing that would've been better served if handled more sparingly. qarth continues to baffle. very bored of hearing the same characters repeat themselves for the fourth episode straight. glad they decided to kill everybody for some reason.

2 episodes left i think? should be a barnstorming finish to a somewhat meandering season.

Roberto Spiralli, Monday, 14 May 2012 14:21 (fourteen years ago)

should be 3 more left, there's 10 total

ciderpress, Monday, 14 May 2012 14:28 (fourteen years ago)

agree that it's been treading water for several episodes. arya & tywin talk, jon wanders the wastes, and repeat. kingslayer finally escaping only to wind up in what looks like the same cage only moments later did not help.

Great line from the RS recap, re Ygritte: "It was like trudging through the tundra with a living Twitter porn spambot."

I quite want this:

The lengthy and loving descriptions of food in the books always get my mouth watering.

agree. he does a damn good job of modulating subtly between related expressions: "what do i do?"/"i have no choice but to do this"/"oh god, i'm really doing this?"

when I read that bit in the book, I bawled!

Yeah Harrenhal was burned by Aegon's dragons & is supposedly cursed isn't it?

I really love Maester Luwin. Just as I imagined him.

multiple xps: it's been very meandering yeah, but necessarily so as they have to cram a load of stuff into ten episodes, wrangle with the timelines and do a lot of setting up of stuff for the next few seasons, all the while ensuring that characters who didn't really get a lot of time in the book (ie Robb) get their airtime. I've been pleased for the most part.

gyac, Monday, 14 May 2012 17:15 (fourteen years ago)

The only thing that's been a bit of a letdown is how they've handled Dany and Qarth, but her thread in the second book is my least favourite of her storylines so far (her thread in the third is incredible).

I wish to incorporate disco into my small business (chap), Monday, 14 May 2012 17:18 (fourteen years ago)

agreed.

two episodes in a row with no tits I'm pretty sure. Unprecedented.

Who is the woman with the crazy mask? And where can I obtain naked ritual back-painting services on the east coast?

Can we not talk about who is alive or dead in the third book? I know it seems sort of obvious that Dany will be around for awhile but it's more fun to not know what's going to happen for me. :(

maybe she dies in an incredible fashion in the first chapter, just falling into a bottomless pit while dragons burst out of her organs

yeah, seconded. there's a spoiler thread for people who've read the books. would prefer to hear nothing about what's upcoming or how things were different in the books in this thread.
