it wasn't really that good

Number None, Wednesday, 9 May 2012 08:54 (fourteen years ago)

yeah improvised comedy has its place but I tend not to equate it with gripping football drama

listicular fortitude (DJ Mencap), Wednesday, 9 May 2012 09:00 (fourteen years ago)

rooting for Downing though. One game left for a perfect season

Number None, Wednesday, 9 May 2012 09:01 (fourteen years ago)

EBJT is working on his falls. Will he fall in Euro 2012?

the pinefox, Wednesday, 9 May 2012 09:50 (fourteen years ago)

His next target is staying upright enough to elbow Lampard aside and lift the European Cup

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 9 May 2012 10:56 (fourteen years ago)

dont say shit like that

pet tommy & the barkhaters (darraghmac), Wednesday, 9 May 2012 10:57 (fourteen years ago)

Noodle must be praying that McLeish stays at Villa;he's interested in signing Karl Henry.

pandemic, Wednesday, 9 May 2012 11:04 (fourteen years ago)

not just that either- he'd no doubt be considered for the wolves job.

pet tommy & the barkhaters (darraghmac), Wednesday, 9 May 2012 11:07 (fourteen years ago)

pandemic, as the spotter's badge winner over papa cisse, who should spurs be looking at for the areas of lb, cb, cf and rw?

pet tommy & the barkhaters (darraghmac), Wednesday, 9 May 2012 11:09 (fourteen years ago)

That Blackburn dude's been sacked. No, not that one.

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 9 May 2012 11:15 (fourteen years ago)

Tony Blackburn?

kid steel (cajunsunday), Wednesday, 9 May 2012 11:18 (fourteen years ago)

who should spurs be looking at for the areas of lb, cb, cf and rw?

Celtic only need to be better than Motherwell next season so I heartily recommend:

lb SPL Player of the Year 2010/11: Emilio Izaguirre - £6m
lb/cb SPL Player of the Year 2011/12: Charlie Mulgrew - £5m
cf SPL Top Scorer 2011/12: Gary Hooper - £8m
rw SPL Young Player of the Year 2011/12: James Forrest - £8m

you're welcome

vertonghen, hoilett, huntelaar?

plus 'ave a little go for elia/affelay/sahin/a.johnson

r|t|c, Wednesday, 9 May 2012 11:40 (fourteen years ago)

darragh, the bundesliga is the only league i've really seen a lot of this season (in serie a i've only really seen milan + juve multiple times).

Therefore these suggestions are all Bundesliga based

RW - As a rotational option to Lennon I think Ashkan Dejagah (Wolfsburg) is worth a look. He's in the mold of Lennon in that he can play as a true winger (ie run down the line and cross). He has 7 or so assists this season I think. He's more physically imposing than Lennon, but a shade slower.I'd quite like someone like him at LFC tbh, a lesser Antonio Valencia if you will.

Or there's Martin Harnik (Stuttgart), lots of goals lots of assists but he's more of a 4-3-3 winger than a 4-4-2 one ie he won't get chalk on his boots.

I'll have a think about the other positions.

pandemic, Wednesday, 9 May 2012 11:41 (fourteen years ago)

ooh good shout from r/t/c on elia there. After a horror season at Juve he might be available cut price and will have something to prove. Then again too long on yet another bench may just about finish him off.

pandemic, Wednesday, 9 May 2012 11:42 (fourteen years ago)

Also there's the chance that Conte had a very good reason for not playing him more.

pandemic, Wednesday, 9 May 2012 11:43 (fourteen years ago)

sow, doumbia, lacina traore for the new papiss punts

arent those two young greek defender lads in the bundesliga quite good

r|t|c, Wednesday, 9 May 2012 11:46 (fourteen years ago)

shawcross tbh

r|t|c, Wednesday, 9 May 2012 11:53 (fourteen years ago)

xp
papadopoulos at schalke is a beast of a CB yeah. Still a teenager I think but v physically imposing, good in the air. Will pick up a lot of bookings though, and not cheap ones, liable to cut people in half. Still quite raw so not sure if Darragh is happy to endure his learning curve or if he wants the finished article already. Played a little at DM as well and was okay.

Also at Schalke, Christian Fuchs is a good attacking LB. Lots of assists, not a liability defensively. Puts in such a good ball tho that Redknapp may be convinced that Spurs don't need Bale on the left to provide and will let him have his 'free role'

pandemic, Wednesday, 9 May 2012 11:55 (fourteen years ago)

xp
Kinda. Also once Juve went to 3 at the back Elia was never in with a chance of getting a wide role in that system.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sokratis_Papastathopoulos

xp and this one?

r|t|c, Wednesday, 9 May 2012 11:57 (fourteen years ago)

He's done okay in not ideal circumstances. No settled defensive partner, played at RB occasionally. Part of a team, Bremen, that has a pretty relaxed view of defending in general, especially away from home in the first half of the season. Mertesacker was probably glad to escape to the relative calm of the Arsenal back four!

Don't think he's as good as Schalke guy.

pandemic, Wednesday, 9 May 2012 12:10 (fourteen years ago)

Can't think of any 'under the radar' CF's available for good value. LaSogga(Hertha Berlin) has the raw materials but I don't think he's good enough for Spurs. Didavi(Nuremberg) has had an excellent 2nd half of the season but he plays behind the main striker and isn't in Van der Vaart class.

So yeah, throw money at Huntelaar.

pandemic, Wednesday, 9 May 2012 12:15 (fourteen years ago)

Of course Pekhart scored 7 goals this season ;) Maybe not.

pandemic, Wednesday, 9 May 2012 12:18 (fourteen years ago)

messi must be available on the cheap now after single-handedly given away a place in the CL final?

ha cheers, content delivered

pet tommy & the barkhaters (darraghmac), Wednesday, 9 May 2012 12:29 (fourteen years ago)

hoilett as rw, btw? all his best work i've seen is cutting in from left tbh.

Pandemic corrdect in that what i'd want is a v wide playing winger as cover/competition for lennon.

Onimo- i'll file under 'good to know'......

pet tommy & the barkhaters (darraghmac), Wednesday, 9 May 2012 12:31 (fourteen years ago)

pekhart/barnard strikeforce ftw obv

― pandemic, Wednesday, May 9, 2012 12:41 PM (1 hour ago)

uhm

In October 2007, Dejagah refused to play an under-21 international match of Germany against Israel, citing “very personal reasons” and saying “everybody knows I am half Iranian”.

nakhchivan, Wednesday, 9 May 2012 13:40 (fourteen years ago)

anybody watch greek football? Kevin Mirallas is in rich goal scoring form for Olympiacos. (btw have there always been Belgian/ French people named Kevin?)

Thoughts? You must have loads. (a hoy hoy), Wednesday, 9 May 2012 14:35 (fourteen years ago)

thats big kev mirallas

nakhchivan, Wednesday, 9 May 2012 14:43 (fourteen years ago)

idk what that 'look' is called but it looks a lot like the platonic ideal of a european footballer in 2007, which is to say 2012

nakhchivan, Wednesday, 9 May 2012 14:44 (fourteen years ago)

jesus

mizzell, Wednesday, 9 May 2012 15:16 (fourteen years ago)

if paul scholes did these it'd have only been down to him being not very good at tackling.

ah, it's a gif. That's why my phone burnt up when i clicked on it.

thought it was p weird that ppl were losing their shit about the L'pool penalty incident and Suarez getting a bit arm-swingy and not seeming too fussed about something that could've been yr actual career-ruiner

listicular fortitude (DJ Mencap), Wednesday, 9 May 2012 16:11 (fourteen years ago)

i was unaware of this game tbh

pet tommy & the barkhaters (darraghmac), Wednesday, 9 May 2012 16:12 (fourteen years ago)

That tackle looks so weird, are we sure it's not a completely separate incident superimposed on some stock 'hapless Carroll' footage?

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 9 May 2012 16:14 (fourteen years ago)

holy crap that looks bad. he's nowhere near the ball and just double footed drop kicking carroll's planted leg. carroll is v. lucky. shawx himself couldn't have made it more blatent and horrible.

Thoughts? You must have loads. (a hoy hoy), Wednesday, 9 May 2012 17:14 (fourteen years ago)

It looks bad but it looks less bad from the other angle where you see him actually get the ball.

Earlier, Wayne Rooney's first experience as an racehorse owner ended in disappointment when Pippy was last.

The two-year-old colt - owned by the Manchester United and England footballer and his wife Coleen, both of whom were among the spectators - was always towards the rear after a slow start in the Manor House Stables Lily Agnes Stakes.

fwiw, according to Rafa Honigstein dortmund is looking at the following players to replace Barrios:
Nicklas Helenius (Aalborg BK), John Guidetti (ManCity/Feyenoord), Bas Dost (Heerenveen) and Luuk de Jong (Twente)

Maybe Helenius the only one that qualifies as under the radar.

mizzell, Wednesday, 9 May 2012 18:33 (fourteen years ago)

yeah, he's the only one I haven't previously read about.
