the lack of characterization for the hound has been a disappointment so far. he gets some pretty good scenes in the books. thank god we have plenty of scenes of the timeless created-for-the-show character of Roz The Prostitute instead

these pretzels are makeing me horney (Hungry4Ass), Monday, 7 May 2012 17:29 (fourteen years ago)

her exchange with whatshisname on the steps was just awful

I've only read the first book, but are we supposed to be totally impressed with the ridiculous things she says? clearly many other characters in the world see her as a young girl with delusions of grandeur. maybe she's a bad actress, but it seems like a limitation of the role and the dialogue too. the character seems to be taking a "fake it until you make it" approach to power.

ryan, Monday, 7 May 2012 18:28 (fourteen years ago)

the delivery of that dialogue is the problem
she's a definite weak spot in the casting

(Name Withheld to Avoid Hassle) (forksclovetofu), Monday, 7 May 2012 18:30 (fourteen years ago)

Yeah she's not handling this stuff particularly well. It's also because her character is somewhat delusional and everyone else has her pretty sussed out.

Fas Ro Duh (Gukbe), Monday, 7 May 2012 18:31 (fourteen years ago)

right i think it'd be laughable if people fell to their knees at one of her foot stamping entitled monologues, but they basically shrug it off. i can def see it being more of a problem down the line (assuming she DOES acquire power).

ryan, Monday, 7 May 2012 18:34 (fourteen years ago)

She doesn't realise her father is known as The Mad King, does she?

Fas Ro Duh (Gukbe), Monday, 7 May 2012 18:36 (fourteen years ago)

No, she does not. Viserys filled her head with nonsense about their father being beloved.

Respectfully, Tyrese Gibson (Nicole), Monday, 7 May 2012 18:37 (fourteen years ago)

She is probably 14 at this point in the book, so her petulance makes a lot more sense to me in that light.

polyphonic, Monday, 7 May 2012 18:41 (fourteen years ago)

theon's sacking of winterfell + beheading rodrick was maybe the most disturbing scene for me so far, maybe because I've started reading the books, so I can see more of the psychological angles and have just spent more hours with the characters. But jeez that was awful.

Clay, Monday, 7 May 2012 22:43 (fourteen years ago)

man they really went off the books in this episode! crazytalk

i am kind of sad not to see the psychic bogland kids :(

chopping and chopping at guys neck and then breaking the last bit off w/yr foot like a piece of wood NAGL

lag∞n, Monday, 7 May 2012 23:29 (fourteen years ago)

i don't think its ever said why but i may not remember correctly. something like cleganes are vassals of the lannisters and the hound is one extremely loyal dude?

― Jibe

Pretty much, but more that he's a nihilistic dude than loyal.

thanks to your reply, i'm imagining the hound going "Ve vant ze money Lebowski". Would make those nihilists so much scarier.

Jibe, Tuesday, 8 May 2012 03:02 (fourteen years ago)

The stuff w/ Jon Snow this week really sucked, esp. in comparison w/ the rest.

Simon H., Tuesday, 8 May 2012 03:47 (fourteen years ago)

tru. i'm hoping something interesting comes out of it. I also hope Ghost isn't gone for good.

Fas Ro Duh (Gukbe), Tuesday, 8 May 2012 03:48 (fourteen years ago)

i wish each episode of this show was 30 minutes longer, and 15 of those minutes dedicated solely to the hound

humba (NZA), Tuesday, 8 May 2012 04:00 (fourteen years ago)

just realized that not only have the reeds been left out but also beric dondarrion. i understand that this is a tv show and some cuts have to be made but these are important characters.

humba (NZA), Tuesday, 8 May 2012 04:01 (fourteen years ago)

He appeared briefly in S1, I think he'll be back

Moodles, Tuesday, 8 May 2012 04:11 (fourteen years ago)

Yeah, the show has been pretty faithful to Beric D. thus far, though that isn't exactly hard at this point.

Pot Leeedom (Leee), Tuesday, 8 May 2012 04:33 (fourteen years ago)

btw, did anyone else lol @ the whole frantic Arya/Jaqen scene?

Pot Leeedom (Leee), Tuesday, 8 May 2012 04:38 (fourteen years ago)

i most certainly did. i kind of liked her screaming " i want you to kill him NOW!", as it made her sound like the little kid she is, which you sometimes tend to forget considering everything she does.

Jibe, Tuesday, 8 May 2012 04:51 (fourteen years ago)

The stuff w/ Jon Snow this week really sucked, esp. in comparison w/ the rest.

otm, i was also disappointed by the mechanical and rather ridiculous presentation of arya's second assassination. a big disappointment after last week's (great) episode, imo.

10. “Pour Some Sugar On Me” – Tom Cruise (contenderizer), Tuesday, 8 May 2012 04:52 (fourteen years ago)

Yes! Very sitcomy vibe, esp. the wry way Jaqen seemed to be teasing her.

Otherwise agree on overall quality of this episode, which was also written by the same writer who did "Garden of Bones" (the other majorly dud episode this season).

Pot Leeedom (Leee), Tuesday, 8 May 2012 04:54 (fourteen years ago)

arya's assassination genie is pretty sweet

polyphonic, Tuesday, 8 May 2012 04:55 (fourteen years ago)

big lolz on dude opening the door and then keeling over

(Name Withheld to Avoid Hassle) (forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 8 May 2012 04:56 (fourteen years ago)

lol yes

btw, Armory Lorch is the guy that Tywin chewed out and dismissed for being dum, right?

Pot Leeedom (Leee), Tuesday, 8 May 2012 04:58 (fourteen years ago)

tough to blame the writer when she gets stuck with Robb and his nurse-love and some of the cack-handed Harendal stuff. Loved the Littlefinger looks though. Also all the Winterfell stuff was A+ and we also got Tyrion slapping Joffrey again so I can't find much to complain about on the whole.

Fas Ro Duh (Gukbe), Tuesday, 8 May 2012 05:20 (fourteen years ago)

The Sansa scene went on a bit too long and was uncomfortable to watch. I realise she was a standin for Lollys, and it wasn't exactly a pleasant scene in the book, but it was unpleasant viewing.

On the other hand, I really felt for the Stark kids when Ser Rodrik got beheaded and I really liked what we saw of Roose Bolton.

gyac, Tuesday, 8 May 2012 22:58 (fourteen years ago)

i dunno where i've seen it before for it to be a trope but i just knew ian wasn't gonna slice dude's head clean off in one go :/

did i miss something earlier or was this the first suggestion that assassin guy has magical powers? or was i not supposed to think that

r|t|c, Wednesday, 9 May 2012 22:03 (fourteen years ago)

he hasn't got magical powers, he's just pretty fucking good at killing ppl

Roberto Spiralli, Wednesday, 9 May 2012 22:04 (fourteen years ago)

he just shot a poison dart into guys neck

lag∞n, Wednesday, 9 May 2012 22:07 (fourteen years ago)

10. “Pour Some Sugar On Me” – Tom Cruise (contenderizer), Wednesday, 9 May 2012 22:15 (fourteen years ago)

oh right yeah i see the dart now

still got that done unlikely sharpish didnt he, considering the headstart killed guy had

r|t|c, Wednesday, 9 May 2012 22:27 (fourteen years ago)

felt it was farfetched but i am happy if they want to have unfeasibly good assassin. it's not the wire... and even that had omar and that brother mouzone cartoon.

ooooiiiioooooooooooooooaaaaaaaaoooooh un - bi - leevable! (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 9 May 2012 22:28 (fourteen years ago)

the too-perfect handiness of the character and the ridiculous nick-of-time intervention both bugged me in this episode

anyway awesome at murderin' dude is a kool character

Bandersnatch Cumberbund (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Wednesday, 9 May 2012 22:49 (fourteen years ago)

no, i like it (now i see what i missed) and find it fun but the point stands you've probably got to be a little tighter with zingy "farfetched" once you've now let actual smokebaby type magic out the box

plus he has a sassy demeanour and had all that blarney about his "red god" or whatever last episode, seems like magical signifiers to me

r|t|c, Wednesday, 9 May 2012 22:50 (fourteen years ago)

pssst everybody, this series is based on a pulpy fantasy series

Bandersnatch Cumberbund (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Wednesday, 9 May 2012 22:52 (fourteen years ago)

we all have our proclivities

10. “Pour Some Sugar On Me” – Tom Cruise (contenderizer), Wednesday, 9 May 2012 22:57 (fourteen years ago)

martin definitely does some things other fantasy paperback dudes don't do, and does some things better but sometimes i feel like ppl really seriously want like aaron sorkin's "studio dragonpants on the sunset ruins of winterfell" and are basically complaining that a heavy metal album has loud guitars and guitar solos

Bandersnatch Cumberbund (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Wednesday, 9 May 2012 23:11 (fourteen years ago)

i literally haven't understood your last few posts

Bandersnatch Cumberbund (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Wednesday, 9 May 2012 23:31 (fourteen years ago)

lol, j/k. i get that pulpy tv series is pulpy, but don't always love all elements equally. no slam on the show in general.

10. “Pour Some Sugar On Me” – Tom Cruise (contenderizer), Wednesday, 9 May 2012 23:34 (fourteen years ago)

I could go for more Downton Abbey crossovers. The first thing I thought of with the ginger wildlin was "oh, that's what the maid with the typewriter ended up doing"
