Carrot Top's episode really wasn't all that bad if you just consider the Carrot Top portion of it and not all the interjections of his dopey yes-man friend/partner.
― Johnny Fever, Friday, 4 May 2012 15:32 (twelve years ago) link
i think if sandler would ever do it, it could be a really good ep in a # of ways. not that it's likely to happen..
― johnny crunch, Friday, 4 May 2012 15:37 (twelve years ago) link
Sandler doesn't strike me as even the littlest bit introspective, and on the occasions he is he does so on his terms only.
― Johnny Fever, Friday, 4 May 2012 15:53 (twelve years ago) link
Would love a Sandler interview
― Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 4 May 2012 15:53 (twelve years ago) link
I'm still holding out hope Chappelle will agree to do an episode (hopefully a two-parter).
― Johnny Fever, Friday, 4 May 2012 15:54 (twelve years ago) link
wonder if mark would ask sandler about meeting lorne michaels.

maybe someday he'll get that lorne interview
― 40oz of tears (Jordan), Friday, 4 May 2012 16:02 (twelve years ago) link
He'll get the Albert Brooks interview first.
― Vini Reilly Invasion (Elvis Telecom), Friday, 4 May 2012 19:16 (twelve years ago) link
WTF seems like one of the only things that would appeal to Chappelle at this point. He's sworn off film and tv, and his stand-up dates seem to get ruined by people either filming him with their phones or shouting "I'm Rick James, bitch!" I'd think Dave would love to just talk comedy in a one-on-one setting.
― Tarfumes The Escape Goat, Friday, 4 May 2012 20:10 (twelve years ago) link
I'm listening to the Bill Maher ep and... it is fine?
― Thoughts? You must have loads. (a hoy hoy), Friday, 4 May 2012 20:10 (twelve years ago) link
yeah i thought the maher one was pretty good.
― mizzell, Friday, 4 May 2012 20:16 (twelve years ago) link
Rachael Harris's episode was really great. Also, I now want to see her Natural Selection movie, which I'd not even heard of before her interview.
― Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 8 May 2012 20:24 (twelve years ago) link
I generally can't stand Maher, I often find him too self-congratulatory and proud of his cleverness, but his WTF ep humanized him a little bit. He only grated on me when he was inflating how he was like Public Enemy #1 with 9/11 comments but, that aside, I liked his interview just fine.

Maron's Twitter exchange with Oswalt yesterday was pretty funny.

Yeah, I kind of enjoyed that exchange, particularly Oswalt's tweet about Jerry from Parks & Rec.

Killer Beas is one of my favorite recent interviews. His unguarde attitudes about the south and racism were kind of unexpected. And the ambulance/funeral home stuff was A+
― Hauntingly Unemployed American (President Keyes), Thursday, 24 May 2012 16:53 (twelve years ago) link
Unguarded obv
that grantland article is pretty bad, even as a parody of WTF. also ignores that it's a great interview tactic to drop a vulnerable admission about yourself in order to get the interviewee to open up.
― 40oz of tears (Jordan), Thursday, 24 May 2012 17:08 (twelve years ago) link
I've been listening to the podcast too long; all I could think when I read it is 'oh man how much is it going to suck when Maron reads all this' because I could just see him underlining the phrases and criticisms and rewriting an angry email 20 times
― Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 24 May 2012 17:09 (twelve years ago) link
Tho the Lorne Michaels obsession thing is pretty indisputable. I think Maron gets too much of a rep as the purity comic, see all of those Oswalt tweets. He's more like the 40 something ex-punk rocker dudes I work with who are kind of wondering where to go now that their youthful integrity codes have been defaced or made irrelevant.
― Hauntingly Unemployed American (President Keyes), Thursday, 24 May 2012 17:16 (twelve years ago) link
he's mellowed SO much over the course of the podcast - if anything more should be made of how beneficial the podcast has been for him, more than anyone lol
― Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 24 May 2012 17:17 (twelve years ago) link
Killer Beaz sort of surprised me by getting all Christiany toward the end...not preachy or anything, and I definitely understand why what happened in his life would steer him that direction...but that was an unusual turn on a Maron podcast. I love his whole vibe, though.
― Johnny Fever, Thursday, 24 May 2012 18:12 (twelve years ago) link
I really loved the Danny McBride one - he's just such a likable guy. The stories about fighting the abusive boyfriend of his ex, and his fantasy spec script about The Draven (half-dragon, half-man) - so much funny shit in that one.
― She Got the Shakes, Thursday, 24 May 2012 22:34 (twelve years ago) link
Yeah, McBride was really enjoyable. I think Maron's going to want to be his buddy. Shit, I kind of want to.
― booth traums (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Friday, 25 May 2012 06:03 (twelve years ago) link
Maron does seem to have gotten some real friendships out of the WTF project -- Scharpling for one -- which might be one of his motivators in doing it, and is a sort of deliberate reversal of the first half of his career.
― Three Word Username, Friday, 25 May 2012 06:15 (twelve years ago) link
lol @ maron's sympathetic southern drawl during that killer beaz interview

I like the photo atop the Grantland article, because I imagine the interviews looking more like that than upright across a kitchen table.

i think i'm realizing that some of my problems with maron aren't problems with maron but with people i've known who aspire to have that kind of personality

I searched the thread but I found no discussion of the episode with Jillian Lauren? Am I missing something? I usually find this podcast a little too professional bro talk for my taste, but she was amazing! What a smarty. She really knows how to tell a story.

I remember that one being pretty good. I'm still catching up on this years and listened to the Mary Mack episode the other day. Her voice was cracking me up because I have relatives from far north Wisconsin and my female cousin sounds EXACTLY like her.

Does he always sort of recap what the guest has said so far every 5 min or so, or was he just doing that because her story was so totally ott?
― game of crones (La Lechera), Wednesday, 30 May 2012 14:00 (twelve years ago) link

Wow, I don't really follow Chelsea Handler at all, but I was shocked to see that she was only a year older than me. She has the wrecked voice of a 47 year-old that smokes constantly.
