Jeff was the only ILXor I managed to hook up with in NYC. Max and I coquettishly traded texts, but nothing came of it.

sockless in moccasins (jaymc), Tuesday, 1 May 2012 22:21 (fourteen years ago)

I'm not going to drink with any of you again unless it is in NYC.

Jeff, Tuesday, 1 May 2012 22:31 (fourteen years ago)

You smarty pantses probably already know this (especially Askance J) but the next book in Hilary Mantel's Wolf Hall trilogy is coming out soon - Bring Up the Bodies. I'm excited to get it as an e-book because Wolf Hall is the book that finally tipped me over into the pro-e-book camp after I lugged the hardback around Chicago for however long it took me to read it.

Polly biscuit face (carl agatha), Wednesday, 2 May 2012 12:42 (fourteen years ago)

Thanks for reminding me, I've been meaning to pick up Wolf Hall for some time.

Silky Slim (dan m), Wednesday, 2 May 2012 16:22 (fourteen years ago)

Ha.

Love the inevitable "you're anti-feminist" criticism.

Also, that made me hungry for pig.

Pita Malört (Je55e), Wednesday, 2 May 2012 16:40 (fourteen years ago)

is that a tiki head?

caro's johnson (Eazy), Thursday, 3 May 2012 15:11 (fourteen years ago)

Haha. Thanks, Brooklyn Vegan.

Pita Malört (Je55e), Thursday, 3 May 2012 15:12 (fourteen years ago)

There are vegan cabs now huh.

Silky Slim (dan m), Thursday, 3 May 2012 15:47 (fourteen years ago)

Silky Slim (dan m), Thursday, 3 May 2012 18:17 (fourteen years ago)

If I stayed in a cheap hotel near the Jarvis stop in Rogers Park, how many of you would say "That's close enough"?

World Congress of Itch (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 3 May 2012 18:19 (fourteen years ago)

Close enough to what?

sockless in moccasins (jaymc), Thursday, 3 May 2012 18:21 (fourteen years ago)

to ChicagILXoans

World Congress of Itch (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 3 May 2012 18:34 (fourteen years ago)

That's by MEEEEEEE

former personal denim advisor to the mayor, (La Lechera), Thursday, 3 May 2012 18:35 (fourteen years ago)

(and no one else) but if you like quiet lakeside relaxation and easy access to red line and bus (but about 45 min from downtown on a good day) it is the place for u

former personal denim advisor to the mayor, (La Lechera), Thursday, 3 May 2012 18:36 (fourteen years ago)

Lucky you! Anyway trip is still 50/50, might be around July 4.

I would not be hitting downtown as much as Big Chicks, and I guess venturing to the South Side for baseball as the Cubs aren't home that week.

World Congress of Itch (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 3 May 2012 18:38 (fourteen years ago)

well then it's a fine place to stay and sox stadium is long commute, but def possible from there. i used to work right off that stop, just get a lot of reading done on the train.

former personal denim advisor to the mayor, (La Lechera), Thursday, 3 May 2012 18:40 (fourteen years ago)

or people watching, if that's your thing

former personal denim advisor to the mayor, (La Lechera), Thursday, 3 May 2012 18:41 (fourteen years ago)

also hella nursing homes

former personal denim advisor to the mayor, (La Lechera), Thursday, 3 May 2012 18:41 (fourteen years ago)

and a frank lloyd wright house!

former personal denim advisor to the mayor, (La Lechera), Thursday, 3 May 2012 18:41 (fourteen years ago)

I said almost the exact thing LL did so, yeah. The one thing I said that she didn't is that Big Chick's is 8 stops south of Jarvis, and many of those are close together so it's a quick ride.

Polly biscuit face (carl agatha), Thursday, 3 May 2012 18:42 (fourteen years ago)

20 min max, cheap cab too

former personal denim advisor to the mayor, (La Lechera), Thursday, 3 May 2012 18:43 (fourteen years ago)

Mostly I've learned lately that north side is LL territory, step off if you don't respect

mh, Thursday, 3 May 2012 19:27 (fourteen years ago)

far north
other chilxors hold down the near north and north-west territories

former personal denim advisor to the mayor, (La Lechera), Thursday, 3 May 2012 19:30 (fourteen years ago)

Jarvis is about 6 blocks from another good gay bar, The Glenwood, which is at Morse. (probably good, i've only been there once, but it had a definite Big Chicks kind of easy-going vibe)

A, is that mural near Morse?

Pita Malört (Je55e), Thursday, 3 May 2012 20:19 (fourteen years ago)

no, it's by the lake -- they redo it every year and this year's theme was "dreams", hence michael steele and his one giant eye urging us to "have a dream"
it's right by where we're going to picnic on sat if the rain holds off!

former personal denim advisor to the mayor, (La Lechera), Thursday, 3 May 2012 20:22 (fourteen years ago)

I remember seeing paintings the last time I was there.

Jeff, Thursday, 3 May 2012 20:31 (fourteen years ago)

On July 19th, 2009.

Jeff, Thursday, 3 May 2012 20:44 (fourteen years ago)

they change every year, but there's always a mural there

former personal denim advisor to the mayor, (La Lechera), Thursday, 3 May 2012 20:45 (fourteen years ago)

also not esp my thing, but RP is home to the Leather Archives.

World Congress of Itch (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 3 May 2012 20:48 (fourteen years ago)

oh yeah, there's that museum over by the produce market!

former personal denim advisor to the mayor, (La Lechera), Thursday, 3 May 2012 20:55 (fourteen years ago)

Rogers Park is awesome and I wish it were convenient for me to live there or in Edgewater.

Pita Malört (Je55e), Thursday, 3 May 2012 21:10 (fourteen years ago)

I was really misled by RP, as it's a lot less segregated than the rest of the city!

mh, Thursday, 3 May 2012 21:37 (fourteen years ago)

So is Edgewater.

cue "White Rabbit" (kenan), Thursday, 3 May 2012 21:41 (fourteen years ago)

I hung out in Rogers Park a fair amount a decade ago, when I lived in Andersonville/Edgewater and worked in Evanston. I don't get there as often these days, but because I've never lived south of Irving Park in the past 11 years -- and also because I have a car -- it's never seemed crazy far away to me.

Actually, that reminds me, there's a bar I've been wanting to check out at Clark and Devon: Norse Bar. (Speaking of leather, I think it must be across the street from Touche.)

sockless in moccasins (jaymc), Thursday, 3 May 2012 21:43 (fourteen years ago)

devon hardware is across from touche -- there are a few new places on the other side of devon though?

former personal denim advisor to the mayor, (La Lechera), Thursday, 3 May 2012 21:46 (fourteen years ago)

Yeah, I guess it is.

sockless in moccasins (jaymc), Thursday, 3 May 2012 21:50 (fourteen years ago)

Norse Bar, eh? Is there a Norwegian aspect to it?

Silky Slim (dan m), Thursday, 3 May 2012 21:59 (fourteen years ago)
