was that the 'heavy metal' tribute one?

Philip Nunez, Tuesday, 1 May 2012 17:52 (fourteen years ago)

yes

I'M THAT POSTA, AAAAAAAAAH (DJP), Tuesday, 1 May 2012 17:54 (fourteen years ago)

i remember liking it but don't remember too much about it. i always like episodes where it seems like they spent more money than usual (e.g. warcraft episode). they should just spend a lot of money on every episode.

That's a pretty funky dance, Garfield. Show me how you do it. (frogbs), Tuesday, 1 May 2012 17:58 (fourteen years ago)

"You're Getting Old"/"Ass Burgers"
"Coon 2: Hindsight"/"Mysterion Rises"/"Coon vs Coon and Friends"
"Butters' Bottom Bitch"
"Major Boobage"
"Imaginationland I"/"Imaginationland II"/"Imaginationland III"

"imaginationland" and the "coon & friends" trilogy are both among my very favorites. i have a "coon and friends" poster in my basement which i'm probably going to frame after i move. "major boobage" rules also.

aside from these, if we're only going with stuff since mid-2007, I really liked "Fishsticks" "Pee" "Medicinal Fried Chicken" and "Creme Fraiche"

If you can get a hold of it, 200/201 are pretty amazing also, but it's also one of those where it helps if the viewer has seen lots of episodes.. It's a shame 201 may never be available outside of pirating.

billstevejim, Tuesday, 1 May 2012 19:03 (fourteen years ago)

only saw 200/201 once but I remember being really amazed at the amount of work that went into it, but yeah you kind of have to be a massive fan of the show already

That's a pretty funky dance, Garfield. Show me how you do it. (frogbs), Tuesday, 1 May 2012 19:04 (fourteen years ago)

why's 201 forbidden?

Philip Nunez, Tuesday, 1 May 2012 19:05 (fourteen years ago)

lots of censorship due to images of Muhammed

I'M THAT POSTA, AAAAAAAAAH (DJP), Tuesday, 1 May 2012 19:08 (fourteen years ago)

aaah southparkstudios doesn't have 200 either :(

billstevejim, Tuesday, 1 May 2012 19:40 (fourteen years ago)

i saw 200 when it aired and missed 201.... Only episode i never saw. Kind of wondering if its worth using how to use torrents

suidavyvan eht nioj (Whiney G. Weingarten), Tuesday, 1 May 2012 19:46 (fourteen years ago)

is it the super-god-friends episode with master control computer as moses? that's the only detail i remember, so it probably wasn't that good, but master control computer as moses is still a good bit.

Philip Nunez, Tuesday, 1 May 2012 19:56 (fourteen years ago)

nono thats not the same one... 200/201 is about how the gingers and tom cruise are both trying to capture mohammad because he's the only person south park can't make fun of. also mitch conner (cartman's hand) has a saigon flashback.

billstevejim, Tuesday, 1 May 2012 20:01 (fourteen years ago)

were there two mohammed episodes? i remember at least one episode where there's a black bar covering what's supposedly mohammed underneath.

Philip Nunez, Tuesday, 1 May 2012 20:06 (fourteen years ago)

i guess there were a few instances.. the original "super best friends" circa-2001, and then the 2-parter where they made fun of family guy around 2006, and then they brought it back (along with premises from 20+ other episodes) for 200/201

billstevejim, Tuesday, 1 May 2012 20:09 (fourteen years ago)

actually, there are several, there's 200/201, and there's the two-part "Cartoon Wars" episode that kind of centered around the idea, plus there's the old "Superfriends" episode where Muhammed actually is depicted without any censorship, but that of course was pre-9/11. IIRC 201 did make a reference to this. Also, IMO, the censored ending of 201 is probably more interesting than whatever it originally was.

oh yeah...what he said

201 has a crrrraaaaaaaazzzzzzzzy ending involving cartman.

medicinal fried chicken is the best.

Thoughts? You must have loads. (a hoy hoy), Tuesday, 1 May 2012 20:15 (fourteen years ago)

You know what is the best episode? 'Cartman Sucks'. An easy target but perfectly done.

four months pass...

Watching the ep that re-ran tonight about school bullying, and I'm reminded of something FilmCritHulk wrote last summer, about the bullshit libertarian nihilistic habits that Trey & Matt sometime fall into when they attack anybody advocating a position, regardless of if that position is valid or correct or not.

how the fuck can anyone read that

for a change :)

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 2 October 2012 04:41 (thirteen years ago)

I wasn't overly bothered with the sarcastiball part of the plot, but Butters' developments in puberty and feeding everyone his spunk was completely lolsome. Best part was probably everybody just drinking it and then Randy just casually saying "it's jizz" like it was no biggie.

passive-aggressive display name (aldo), Tuesday, 2 October 2012 08:10 (thirteen years ago)

anytime Parker and Stone have a political "point" to make it sucks, this isn't news

vegetarian beef (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 2 October 2012 09:50 (thirteen years ago)

yeah the butters storyline was awesome

they kind of lost the thread a little with the sarcasm addiction but I still enjoyed it a lot

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 2 October 2012 15:12 (thirteen years ago)

as a Packer fan the "fuck it, it's a field goal" line made me laugh a lot

also what Whiney said

frogbs, Tuesday, 2 October 2012 15:18 (thirteen years ago)

"I only know five chords....six."

The Honey Boo Boo ep is worth it just for the songs.

Fiendish Doctor Wu (kingfish), Saturday, 6 October 2012 05:51 (thirteen years ago)

The show would be so much better if they dropped all (or at least most) of the characters and centered the show around Ron and Andy.

earlnash, Saturday, 6 October 2012 06:20 (thirteen years ago)

that was meant for the p&r thread right? i spent ages trying to get who ron&andy are in south park. unless you want a south park & rec crossover fanfic

a hoy hoy, Saturday, 6 October 2012 06:22 (thirteen years ago)

Whereas on this show, Randy is the best character

Fiendish Doctor Wu (kingfish), Saturday, 6 October 2012 07:05 (thirteen years ago)

rong

butters

Mary Ty$ Band (Whiney G. Weingarten), Saturday, 6 October 2012 21:32 (thirteen years ago)

yeah, total truth bomb. it seemed like there was even maybe a little bit of genuine regret somewhere in there

Chris S, Saturday, 6 October 2012 21:41 (thirteen years ago)

two weeks pass...

i laughed really hard at the sarcastiball one

gr8080 really needs to watch this week's episode and provide commentary.

I liked Kenny's increasing grandiloquence as he wrote letters home by candlelight, and Stan remarking on it

the max in the high castle (kingfish), Sunday, 21 October 2012 15:38 (thirteen years ago)

that episode was bleh, but butters bitching out kyle and kenny's letters were so great.

billstevejim, Sunday, 21 October 2012 17:59 (thirteen years ago)

it's a weird thing to say, especially off the heels of their recent broadway success, but does anyone else think stone and parker have stunted their potential by continuing south park for this long? i think they joked about buying out comedy central several years back, but maybe it could have happened?
it seems like they've stagnated since the south park movie came out.

in contrast i feel like seth mcfarlane has gotten far more career mileage and opportunities out of family guy then anyone could have dreamed possible.

Philip Nunez, Sunday, 21 October 2012 18:04 (thirteen years ago)

South Park still surprisingly (if inconsistently) great; no potential squandered.

false pie promises (Old Lunch), Sunday, 21 October 2012 18:10 (thirteen years ago)

what i mean is they could have gone on to bigger/better things.
it seems like south park's holding them back.

Philip Nunez, Sunday, 21 October 2012 18:14 (thirteen years ago)

there's been an unfortunate slight decline in quality since the book of mormon, but not so much that i'll stop watching.

also, the "6 days to south park" special was somewhat revealing. a few friends of mine got the impression that bill hader's job is to laugh at jokes that aren't very good, encouraging the writers to settle for something that could be improved, or repeat a joke 15 times that's really only funny the 1st or 2nd time.

billstevejim, Sunday, 21 October 2012 18:17 (thirteen years ago)

I haven't seen any of the current season, but the previous two were definitely the patchiest yet.

and it's still better than like 95% of whatever else is on TV.

i dunno this guy's name, but i'm happy they brought him back.

billstevejim, Sunday, 21 October 2012 18:26 (thirteen years ago)

i haven't watched recent south park, but i'd venture it's not better than 75%, and of the top 25% it's not better than 85%, mostly because TV has gotten so good.

Philip Nunez, Sunday, 21 October 2012 18:28 (thirteen years ago)

what i mean is it won't be any great loss to shutter up production and maybe give them an opportunity to do something really great. there's still bob burgers, etc...

Philip Nunez, Sunday, 21 October 2012 18:31 (thirteen years ago)

Dude, if you haven't watched it recently, your argument doesn't really hold water. Particularly when there was a pair of episodes (last season?) that dealt pretty directly with their exhaustion but ultimate willingness to continue SP. And yes, I'd say it's easily still in the top 25% of shows on tv. One of the few I still actively look forward to.
