The beta males on Twitter seem confused by this “Racial McCarthyism” quote. It’s ironic that the people who use “Nazi” to mean “Anything bad” get thrown off by an anti-communist being used to conjure up something that isn’t specifically anti-communist. Check Wikipedia

“McCarthyism is the practice of making accusations of disloyalty, subversion, or treason without proper regard for evidence.”

goole, Tuesday, 24 April 2012 15:52 (fourteen years ago)

some dude, Tuesday, 24 April 2012 15:54 (fourteen years ago)

do you really need a summary other than "someone used the word 'lynching' to describe widespread criticism of a white person using racially insensitive language"

― some dude

yeah seriously, barffff

bene_gesserit, Tuesday, 24 April 2012 15:55 (fourteen years ago)

who is this actor who plays the repellent idiot-or-asshole BF? Sounds like he is on the cusp of becoming a generational icon.

World Congress of Itch (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 24 April 2012 15:55 (fourteen years ago)

xp - Face the mirror and repeat "Every day, in every way, I am not Gavin McInnes"

Andrew Farrell, Tuesday, 24 April 2012 15:56 (fourteen years ago)

Mordy, Tuesday, 24 April 2012 15:56 (fourteen years ago)

sad to say he's not Minnie Driver's brother (NEPOTISM) but an ex-military dude who went to juliard

da croupier, Tuesday, 24 April 2012 15:57 (fourteen years ago)

well if he got cast as Louis in Angels in America he must have chops.

World Congress of Itch (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 24 April 2012 16:12 (fourteen years ago)

Using the construct "I sort of know (person). Let's have him moderate a live discussion where I prove how much you suck at talking about (thing)" is now on my bucket list.

da croupier, Tuesday, 24 April 2012 16:28 (fourteen years ago)

no offense to max or anyone else, but nonsense like this is why i basically avoid all commercially funded blogs or companies masquerading as blogs

I'm trying to remember the names of the male & female Vice pair I had drinks with a couple years ago...

Also, serious question after browsing the C'list Brooklyn apartment ads today: who the FUCK can afford Greenpoint?

World Congress of Itch (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 24 April 2012 17:02 (fourteen years ago)

haha, ok, a little investigation confirms that yes I have met her.

World Congress of Itch (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 24 April 2012 17:06 (fourteen years ago)

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Tuesday, 24 April 2012 18:48 (fourteen years ago)

god, fuck Gavin McInnes

Kiarostami bag (milo z), Tuesday, 24 April 2012 18:56 (fourteen years ago)

Gavin McInnes being a fully-developed conservative douchebag at this point is kind of like the writer/directors of The Matrix seeing that people liked their film and then expanding on and developing the parts people found stupid and distasteful.

Only Vice magazine was not as good as the first Matrix film

mh, Tuesday, 24 April 2012 19:22 (fourteen years ago)

people who were excited about vice or the matrix in the first place deserve whatever embarrassment they get imo

some dude, Tuesday, 24 April 2012 19:28 (fourteen years ago)

they had some pretty ok moments I guess

mh, Tuesday, 24 April 2012 19:31 (fourteen years ago)

Momus was in both, iirc

mh, Tuesday, 24 April 2012 19:32 (fourteen years ago)

lol

some dude, Tuesday, 24 April 2012 19:39 (fourteen years ago)

Well, I'm caught up - to the first episode.

like a realistic version of people being bad at drugs like when he asks his gf if its ok to have some opium T

I though that was just he was cautious that he doesn't want to embarrass his awesome girlfriend, whereas she is thinking "Please please do something actually embarrassing so that I can dump you w/a clear conscience" (though that scenario doesn't work for her as she ends up hiding in the bedroom then the toilet from him).

I liked the English girl because a) science shows I like English girls, but also she wasn't Shosanna Mamet and she was graceful when SM kept wittering on about this show that the English girl has already said she has never watched!

Terrible pilot: 1000 posts
Good episode: +/- 50?

a) don't know if you notice, that's how things go b) 500 of those posts were from before the episode aired!

cosi fan whitford (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Wednesday, 25 April 2012 13:02 (fourteen years ago)

it will be everyone's new favorite show and they will forget that they had a problem with it. now there will be east coast - west coast rap wars between portlandia and girls fans.

scott seward, Wednesday, 25 April 2012 13:05 (fourteen years ago)

Saw that funny, self aware post on Gawker - "we're shitting on the wrong show" - that "Veep" topped "Girls" in the ratings. Shows the value of hype.

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 25 April 2012 14:03 (fourteen years ago)

"Veep" has an established TV star.

World Congress of Itch (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 25 April 2012 14:13 (fourteen years ago)

veeps audience is also much more "grownups" who buy hbo, watch in real time, etc

johnny crunch, Wednesday, 25 April 2012 14:15 (fourteen years ago)

Pretty sure "a name" is the decisive factor. If you recommend some kind of art film to a Regular American, I understand the most common response is "Who's in it?"

World Congress of Itch (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 25 April 2012 14:17 (fourteen years ago)

totally read that second sentence in a mr spock voice

da croupier, Wednesday, 25 April 2012 14:22 (fourteen years ago)

veep is also way better than this crapola

these pretzels are makeing me horney (Hungry4Ass), Wednesday, 25 April 2012 14:24 (fourteen years ago)

this is better but i'm looking forward to more episodes of veep more

thomp, Wednesday, 25 April 2012 14:27 (fourteen years ago)

was gonna watch veep last night but sort of can't stop watching oz now

wolf kabob (ENBB), Wednesday, 25 April 2012 14:29 (fourteen years ago)

good news about oz, eventually it gets so melodramatic + boring that you'll be able to stop watching it :P

Mordy, Wednesday, 25 April 2012 14:31 (fourteen years ago)

JK Simmons as a bad dude breaks my heart

hey guys I downloaded the second episode of this Girls show and it's really all about awkward people in their early 20s not having defined their own voices yet, so this "could be a voice of a generation" thing is pretty much full of lols

I mean, unless the show goes on eight years and characters are still saying clueless shit about STDs and AIDS and shit, then it'd be like the takimag half-hour sponsored by lol white people

mh, Wednesday, 25 April 2012 14:34 (fourteen years ago)

That is so true about Simmons! It's so weird to watch him in that role but he's really really good.

wolf kabob (ENBB), Wednesday, 25 April 2012 14:35 (fourteen years ago)

I know, I just love that guy

mh, Wednesday, 25 April 2012 14:36 (fourteen years ago)

xxpost

that's a good point. the concept behind this show doesn't seem to be designed to age well.

Moodles, Wednesday, 25 April 2012 14:36 (fourteen years ago)

x-post The best!

wolf kabob (ENBB), Wednesday, 25 April 2012 14:37 (fourteen years ago)

lol, I don't consider it weird cuz it's the best role I've ever seen him in, and when he shows up in anything I think "the Nazi from Oz."

World Congress of Itch (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 25 April 2012 14:37 (fourteen years ago)

my fave part of Oz was yelling "hey dummy" at the screen whenever dennis duffy showed up

Mordy, Wednesday, 25 April 2012 14:38 (fourteen years ago)

Yeah well I'm obv late to the Oz game. I had no idea he was even in it before I started watching.

wolf kabob (ENBB), Wednesday, 25 April 2012 14:38 (fourteen years ago)

Um. Dennis Duffy was sort of hot when he was younger. I was surprised.

wolf kabob (ENBB), Wednesday, 25 April 2012 14:39 (fourteen years ago)
