This ep was p great although it seemed v implausible that someone as smart as her would make a joke to someone about them being a date rapist, period, let alone in a job interview.

Time, a group with Jam and Lewis (Stevie D(eux)), Tuesday, 24 April 2012 03:18 (fourteen years ago)

i still find the stuff between Lena and the guy she likes to be pretty dark and difficult to watch. (i know they referred to the guy by name at least once during the episode but idr what is was.)

one thing i liked was that Lena seemed to be negotiating these sexual margins - like what she allows/chooses and what she won't. so he can talk dirty to her in a way that she didn't maybe seem totally into, and cum on her breasts, but she reserves the right to be blase about it (paraphrase: 'well it seems like you want to cum there so...') or to make jokes about it in the morning. jokes that he, btw, doesn't really get/remember bc despite her claiming that he's very present with her, he really isn't. and then that shows up in her anxieties about having an STD - that it could happen in the margins, in the second where he's not wearing the condom, or in the sides that comes up. that maybe the anxieties about where she can/will draw the line in the bedroom is showing up on a literally physiological level - her health. also maybe in that weird moment in the interview where she brings up date rape even tho it's clear that it's really not interview appropriate. i don't believe that she's too spectrum'y to know not to talk about date rape with someone interviewing you that you met a minute ago. more that it's compulsive bc maybe it's on her mind?

too spectrum'y to not know* i mean

Mordy, Tuesday, 24 April 2012 03:20 (fourteen years ago)

hahaa that sex scene was so great! "If you're touching yourself and you think you're going to come, you better fucking call me first" "You want me to call you?"

Dan I., Tuesday, 24 April 2012 03:36 (fourteen years ago)

jesus can we ban "spectrum'y" right along with "rapey"

"No."

Mordy, Tuesday, 24 April 2012 03:37 (fourteen years ago)

This was a much better ep and White Sea at the end was nice as I have been listening to that a lot recently

kinder, Tuesday, 24 April 2012 05:36 (fourteen years ago)

i read a facebook comment thread saying exactly the opposite as the above reactions: 'aw crap, GIRLS got way worse after the excellent pilot'. hm.

j., Tuesday, 24 April 2012 06:10 (fourteen years ago)

i have never heard of this show, is it good?

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 24 April 2012 09:03 (fourteen years ago)

yesterday this girl on mushrooms kept saying that this show was her life

puff puff post (uh oh I'm having a fantasy), Tuesday, 24 April 2012 09:33 (fourteen years ago)

. i don't believe that she's too spectrum'y to know not to talk about date rape with someone interviewing you that you met a minute ago. more that it's compulsive bc maybe it's on her mind?

Maybe, yeah. They were joking around and being really familiar right up until then which would have meant her guard was down a bit. Also, nerves.

wolf kabob (ENBB), Tuesday, 24 April 2012 10:17 (fourteen years ago)

what in the devil does "spectrum'y" mean?

Number None, Tuesday, 24 April 2012 10:20 (fourteen years ago)

That someone has some type of autism and fall somewhere on the autism spectrum. Unfortunately become fairly common to see it used it to describe vaguely awkward or socially unaware people instead of, you know, people who actually have autism. See also "on the spectrum".

wolf kabob (ENBB), Tuesday, 24 April 2012 10:24 (fourteen years ago)

Oh. That's horrible

Number None, Tuesday, 24 April 2012 10:31 (fourteen years ago)

^^^

Poor Turrican (some dude), Tuesday, 24 April 2012 10:35 (fourteen years ago)

much better + more affectionate than aspie imho

Mordy, Tuesday, 24 April 2012 12:01 (fourteen years ago)

but no less assholish, sadly.

Andrew Farrell, Tuesday, 24 April 2012 12:21 (fourteen years ago)

i sincerely apologize to anyone i offended by using the word 'spectrum'y'

Mordy, Tuesday, 24 April 2012 12:34 (fourteen years ago)

I mentioned it above, but her character reminds me very much of the love interest Greta Gerwig played in "Greenberg," which had an awkward, passive sex scene very much in line with this show. Gerwig's character had a soul, though, and was to this viewer a bit more compelling than this goofy exercise.

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 24 April 2012 12:50 (fourteen years ago)

all that means is that awkward unsexy sex scenes are a mumblecore trope, doesn't it?

some dude, Tuesday, 24 April 2012 12:51 (fourteen years ago)

also the upcoming 'hannah actually a vampire' twist has gone the fuck out the window

thomp, Tuesday, 24 April 2012 12:57 (fourteen years ago)

that was funny. watched the 2nd one via sidereel. i thought that opening scene was a hoot. i think doofy boyfriend is really funny and not creepy or whatever. but i guess everyone sees something different when they watch sex stuff. just that whole thing was really funny to me. "what do you do?" "I do...what i'm told..." hahaha!

lots of good lines. the job interview thing made me laugh very loudly out loud. i actually appreciate that this show isn't entirely based on cringe humor cuz while i love the brit office and curb and other cringies i get a little tired of it. this show is more about funny sentences and i'm a big fan of those.

scott seward, Tuesday, 24 April 2012 14:05 (fourteen years ago)

The not boyfriend isn't so much so much creepy as he is a typical young clueless idiot.

wolf kabob (ENBB), Tuesday, 24 April 2012 14:09 (fourteen years ago)

i dunno, he's at least a little in the 'creepy' column.

some dude, Tuesday, 24 April 2012 14:16 (fourteen years ago)

Yeah. So are a lot of dudes.

wolf kabob (ENBB), Tuesday, 24 April 2012 14:16 (fourteen years ago)

Sorry. Maybe a little but I just get young self-absorbed idiot and as a result sometimes asshole from him more than I do creep.

wolf kabob (ENBB), Tuesday, 24 April 2012 14:17 (fourteen years ago)

I mean, my first reaction isn't "eww he's so creepy" it's more like "ugh what an idiot".

wolf kabob (ENBB), Tuesday, 24 April 2012 14:18 (fourteen years ago)

he can be all of the above, is what i'm saying (xpost)

some dude, Tuesday, 24 April 2012 14:18 (fourteen years ago)

yeah, sure

wolf kabob (ENBB), Tuesday, 24 April 2012 14:19 (fourteen years ago)

like i've known a lot of young clueless idiots, and didn't necessarily know anything about their sexual habits, but i think if i just met that guy in a casual social situation, i'd be like he's kinda creepy

some dude, Tuesday, 24 April 2012 14:21 (fourteen years ago)

He's really weird looking. His little pinhead and totally hairless chest sort of do creep me out.

wolf kabob (ENBB), Tuesday, 24 April 2012 14:24 (fourteen years ago)

this is what i am saying

some dude, Tuesday, 24 April 2012 14:26 (fourteen years ago)

i dunno, i just think he's a young dude. and idiot/creep/weird/whatever kinda goes along with that. he could be worse! at least he actually tells lena she's pretty. wouldn't expect him to even go that far in the human emotion department.

scott seward, Tuesday, 24 April 2012 14:26 (fourteen years ago)

He did seem genuinely concerned in that nanosecond. Still an idiot though.

wolf kabob (ENBB), Tuesday, 24 April 2012 14:27 (fourteen years ago)

way to body-shame, you guys!

da croupier, Tuesday, 24 April 2012 14:28 (fourteen years ago)

Oh, come on. That guy is pretty exceptionally strange looking.

wolf kabob (ENBB), Tuesday, 24 April 2012 14:33 (fourteen years ago)

i wonder if anyone's found the casting call description of that character, would prob be pretty funny

some dude, Tuesday, 24 April 2012 14:34 (fourteen years ago)

he's kinda perfect casting. as far as 20-something oh-man-what-am-i-doing-in-this-apartment hookups go.

scott seward, Tuesday, 24 April 2012 14:39 (fourteen years ago)

i think the casting choices on this show are more in line with casting choices of a show like Degrassi than Friends. and that is nothing but a good thing imo.

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Tuesday, 24 April 2012 14:57 (fourteen years ago)

this show is more about funny sentences and i'm a big fan of those.
yes!

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Tuesday, 24 April 2012 14:58 (fourteen years ago)

oh god does that mean skeevy shirtless dude is the next Drake

some dude, Tuesday, 24 April 2012 15:02 (fourteen years ago)

Hey, if there's a second season, maybe Drake can be the next him!

da croupier, Tuesday, 24 April 2012 15:03 (fourteen years ago)

oh god i would love an episode of Girls guest starring Drake and loosely based on this article: http://www.gq.com/style/gq-100/201204/drake-interview-gq-april-2012

some dude, Tuesday, 24 April 2012 15:06 (fourteen years ago)

D: "i'll make your pussy whistle!"

L: "um, like the Andy Griffith theme?"

da croupier, Tuesday, 24 April 2012 15:09 (fourteen years ago)

hahaaa

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Tuesday, 24 April 2012 15:11 (fourteen years ago)
