ditto, can't remember life before cable

about to live w/out cable, debating buying a XBox and using my parents HBO Go account or just hitting TPB

I guess I could pirate this but I don't know if I want to be that guy. Is it just me or is the demographic this show is mirroring the least likely to actually watch it on HBO?

I'd say about half my friends have dropped cable in lieu of broadcast tv/netflix/hulu/etc

At 11:30 on Sunday, this is a show least likely to be watched by anyone.

recorded at 9 or 9:30 CST, which makes it 10 or 10:30 Eastern, not abnormal for HBO's Sunday night lineup

this ep was great, really well done, tighter than the pilot, better/clearer satire
i wasn't sure with the first ep, but now i can say: lena dunham is really fucking funny

i loved how the doctor dealt with hannah - perfect

yeah even though "maybe i'm not scared of AIDS. maybe what i a really am is...wanting...AIDS" made me laugh harder than anything else in the episode, "that is an incredibly silly thing to say" was the perfect response.

i have not read this thread or watched this show but it doesn't look like this column was posted which is weird bc it's ta-nehisi coates and everything he writes should be posted

YES. That line was so perfect.

The whole STI thing from her Googling to be obsessed to rambling on at the doctor was spot on. Also agree with whomever said the doc was great.

This ep was p great although it seemed v implausible that someone as smart as her would make a joke to someone about them being a date rapist, period, let alone in a job interview.

i still find the stuff between Lena and the guy she likes to be pretty dark and difficult to watch. (i know they referred to the guy by name at least once during the episode but idr what is was.)

one thing i liked was that Lena seemed to be negotiating these sexual margins - like what she allows/chooses and what she won't. so he can talk dirty to her in a way that she didn't maybe seem totally into, and cum on her breasts, but she reserves the right to be blase about it (paraphrase: 'well it seems like you want to cum there so...') or to make jokes about it in the morning. jokes that he, btw, doesn't really get/remember bc despite her claiming that he's very present with her, he really isn't. and then that shows up in her anxieties about having an STD - that it could happen in the margins, in the second where he's not wearing the condom, or in the sides that comes up. that maybe the anxieties about where she can/will draw the line in the bedroom is showing up on a literally physiological level - her health. also maybe in that weird moment in the interview where she brings up date rape even tho it's clear that it's really not interview appropriate. i don't believe that she's too spectrum'y to know not to talk about date rape with someone interviewing you that you met a minute ago. more that it's compulsive bc maybe it's on her mind?

Maybe, yeah. They were joking around and being really familiar right up until then which would have meant her guard was down a bit. Also, nerves.

That someone has some type of autism and fall somewhere on the autism spectrum. Unfortunately become fairly common to see it used it to describe vaguely awkward or socially unaware people instead of, you know, people who actually have autism. See also "on the spectrum".

I mentioned it above, but her character reminds me very much of the love interest Greta Gerwig played in "Greenberg," which had an awkward, passive sex scene very much in line with this show. Gerwig's character had a soul, though, and was to this viewer a bit more compelling than this goofy exercise.
