Hazelnuts vs Almonds

^^ this soy sauce thing is also delicious when it is done to cashews iirc

i have become a bit allergic to hazelnuts over the past five years (tight throat, difficult breathing, itchy mouth) and it makes me super sad - fresh cobnuts used to be one of my favourite things.

i bought some almond butter recently: i don't really... get it? it doesn't seem to taste as good as, like, actual almonds.

interesting poll because these are the 2 new flavours of Alpro soya drink here in the UK; i've only had the Almond one of these and it was FOUL.

They're both super-sweet cos they've added a shitload of sugar to them. The hazelnut one has the edge though imo.

BTW raw spinach and walnut salad with some french dressing, fresh tomatoes and wholegrain bread = BEST LUNCH EVER

soaking nuts & then doing stuff with them is a great move. like cashew cream, blending water-bloated cashews to houmous consistency & then using to thicken & kinda sweeten soups and stuff.

almonds are >>> hazelnuts, here. hazelnuts have a better name. but there are two variants of almonds, which is a nice plus. i don't eat chocolate, and eating blanched almonds reminds me of white chocolate. i like how they're slightly soft, & you can break one into two with your hand. it gives them a little of a pistachio rhythm. I feel like the are more uses for almonds, in cooking, as well as them being more delicious in general. almonds.

I started pronouncing them al-monds rather than Armonds, maybe a year or two ago, I can't walk it back

My new breakfast:

1 pkg unflavored instant oatmeal
1 handful almonds
1/2 sliced banana
1/2 cup milk
1 tiny drizzle honey
microwave all together for like 1-1.5 mins
add another splash of milk

and yet still, here they are, intruding like the chalky fiendish bastards they are.
get out of my brownies, walnuts.

Hazelnuts win, even though I eat more almonds. That's only bc almonds are more readily available. Hazelnuts are special, and have a drier, more brittle crunch, which is totally to be preferred.

God I love walnuts and pecans too. To be honest I can't think of a single nut that I don't like.

I can't believe the ire vented against walnuts here! If there is one inferior nut, then that nut is definitely the peanut.

I mean I also like peanuts but think they're just kind of boring.

peanuts are great! only seem boring due to ubiquity. great flavor, essential in all sorts of cooking.

brazil nuts are just the worst. terrible texture, no flavor, the worst. even the lowly walnut shines in comparison. (and, yeah, i agree that walnuts are great in salads, okay in cookies & quickbreads.)

You guys are all weirdos. Brazil nuts own. I will gladly share mixed nuts with you any day.

Brazil nuts in the shell are a very tough nut to crack. I can never get them out whole. Maybe if I were a toucan it would be easier. As far as flavor and texture go, I find them a bit bland and very slightly fiberous compared to other nuts, but they are still a pleasurable nut to eat.

I don't know that I've ever seen them in the shell. I like their texture - they remind me of macadamia nuts.

To be honest I can't think of a single nut that I don't like.

The only time I've disliked the taste is if they're stale or oversalted.

re: nutella, there's some class action thing going on where you can get money for being lied to about the health benefits of nutella.

i've never gotten money for being lied to about almonds, so i maybe should have voted for hazelnuts.

there are brazil nut flavor toffees in Australia (& probably the UK for all I know) - they are fucking delicious
