diafiyhm (darraghmac), Saturday, 21 April 2012 17:02 (fourteen years ago)

vdv on the right looking like a really shit option, wonder why harry decided to try it out today. I'm sure whe he sees how it's fuckin the midfield he'll change it at half time.

Get this guy away from the fuckin team someone he's been managing england since january ffs

diafiyhm (darraghmac), Saturday, 21 April 2012 17:10 (fourteen years ago)

If this is the way Gareth Bale is going to insist on playing from now on we might as well cash in and take our £40m or whatever.

Also useless fucking chokers don't deserve Champions League football etc etc.

I might give up watching football for the rest of the season, this is horrible.

Homosexual Satan Wasp (Matt DC), Saturday, 21 April 2012 17:21 (fourteen years ago)

Thinking back on two years ago and remembering how we actually found a new level on the run-in, beating Arsenal, Chelsea and City. This is just useless.

Homosexual Satan Wasp (Matt DC), Saturday, 21 April 2012 17:22 (fourteen years ago)

absolutely shocking call from the ref for their goal tho, could never have been a fk. Sun in friedel's eyes?

But jesus christ bale is breaking my heart, you have to really try to be so fucking stupid time after time.

diafiyhm (darraghmac), Saturday, 21 April 2012 17:28 (fourteen years ago)

come on newcastle imo, modric can fro and all, he's been playing within himself all season.

diafiyhm (darraghmac), Saturday, 21 April 2012 17:30 (fourteen years ago)

alan pardew is going to be managing a champions league team!

Thoughts? You must have loads. (a hoy hoy), Saturday, 21 April 2012 17:50 (fourteen years ago)

Spurs just don't have the patience to play against teams that put everyone behind the ball, too much good approach play is being wasted by stupidly going for glory rather than keeping possession and waiting for a slip-up.

Homosexual Satan Wasp (Matt DC), Saturday, 21 April 2012 17:54 (fourteen years ago)

I think I just saw ithappens throwing a strop at the linesman's decision though.

Homosexual Satan Wasp (Matt DC), Saturday, 21 April 2012 17:56 (fourteen years ago)

Taarabt sent off, not that it'll make a fuck of difference to these useless bottling cunts

W. E. B. Du Bois Goals Panel (DJ Mencap), Saturday, 21 April 2012 18:09 (fourteen years ago)

Bale just walked into the QPR crowd to get the ball back. Not clever.

Homosexual Satan Wasp (Matt DC), Saturday, 21 April 2012 18:12 (fourteen years ago)

aw, bobby z inexplicably turns some time-wasting into a goalscoring opportunity, but then balls it up.

michael nyman cat (Merdeyeux), Saturday, 21 April 2012 18:20 (fourteen years ago)

useless bottling cunts

OTM.

Homosexual Satan Wasp (Matt DC), Saturday, 21 April 2012 18:26 (fourteen years ago)

next season then: no Champs League/probably no Europa League > no Adebayor, Bale, Luka, maybe VDV idk > no real muscle in transfer market > Ramos-esque ill-judged managerial appointment = 14th place finish remember where you read it first

W. E. B. Du Bois Goals Panel (DJ Mencap), Saturday, 21 April 2012 18:35 (fourteen years ago)

The £70m or so we'd get from selling that lot would go a long way but only with the right manager to spend it and I've no idea who that would be. It's been a fun three years or so but it's over and Spurs have no one to blame but themselves.

Homosexual Satan Wasp (Matt DC), Saturday, 21 April 2012 18:39 (fourteen years ago)

I'm not sure what would be worse, dropping out of the race swiftly or winning the next couple of games only to lose to Fulham on the last day of the season with Martin Jol running the length of the pitch to celebrate right in front of Daniel Levy.

Homosexual Satan Wasp (Matt DC), Saturday, 21 April 2012 18:40 (fourteen years ago)

simultaneous Redknapp/Jol heart attacks

every young Briton with a Twitter account jailed the following day

W. E. B. Du Bois Goals Panel (DJ Mencap), Saturday, 21 April 2012 18:54 (fourteen years ago)

xpost to Matt DC. I think you did see me throwing a strop. It has been drawn to my attention my others that I was seen on TV appearing to have an aneurysm.

Manfred Mann meets Man Parrish (ithappens), Saturday, 21 April 2012 20:16 (fourteen years ago)

spurs have nobody to blame but themselves redknapp

Obvious lack of rw cover has fucked the balance of the attack, and he's not tried anything to fix it because lennon's absence has allowed him to play vdv modric and bale in the trident that only worked the once (against norwich, ffs) but had the papers raving about his tactical genius.

Gallas has embarrassed himself this past several weeks, Parker has lost his composure, Modric has stopped showing for Parker/Bale/Ekotto, Bale is quickly becoming a cunt and VDV just doesn't do anything much. Adebayor can't be fucked challenging or taking on centre halves so just runs into the wings instead, Walker is, expectedly tbf, prone to massive gaffes in defence.

This was the best attacking unit for five months of this season ffs, it's fuckin astonishing to watch them now- a shambles today. Punting it to Defoe all match, why the fuck even bother turning up? Even in possession it was one man on the ball surrounded by disinterested strangers.

This is like being a fuckin spurs supporter all over again.

diafiyhm (darraghmac), Saturday, 21 April 2012 20:26 (fourteen years ago)

fuck this is looking grim for Bolton

stay in school if you want to kiw (Gukbe), Saturday, 21 April 2012 20:27 (fourteen years ago)

Obvious lack of rw cover

if only 'arry took a punt on a cheap option from somewhere like everton, pienaar would be a good back up rw choice etc.

lol at how the whole team is so unified they all decided to join ade in his 5 month fall-out

Thoughts? You must have loads. (a hoy hoy), Saturday, 21 April 2012 20:40 (fourteen years ago)

I had been led to believe that Scott Parker was the epitome of the Bulldog Breed, the embodiment of English nobility, without a cynical thought and pure in word and deed. Today I discovered he was a diving twat. Who didn't even get booked despite conceding the free kick for diving. And - I'm not defending the brain dead QPR fans who refused to give the ball back - but how the fuck did Bale not get booked for climbing into the crowd in the lower Loft to retrieve it himself, given that players get booked for hugging their own fans after goals? Risible refereeing from Clattenberg today.

Manfred Mann meets Man Parrish (ithappens), Saturday, 21 April 2012 20:51 (fourteen years ago)

i am. best wind-up.

zverotic discourse (jim in glasgow), Saturday, 21 April 2012 20:54 (fourteen years ago)

pienaar not a rw, natural inclination is to cut inside

Hope qpr get fined/points deducted for only having one ball (one more than our squad arf)

diafiyhm (darraghmac), Saturday, 21 April 2012 20:58 (fourteen years ago)

I was at Arsenal-Chelsea yesterday. I should've known I was pushing my luck ever attending another game after the 5-2, because this was a bit terrible. Still enjoyed it though! A few thoughts:

  • Arsenal's whole style is very frustrating. They kept taking the ball backwards and working it man-by-man from side to side. All this achieves is to allow the opposition to get set. The desire for the team to speed up and attack space was tangible. Eventually they mounted a quick break just before halftime and the cry of relief around the ground was overwhelming.
  • They're not good enough to do the quick-passing-in-tight-spaces thing. It always ended in Walcott running into a blind alley, or Sing or Ramsay being caught in possession. No movement basically. Rosicky realised the problem after a bit and provided movement and urgency, but few followed him.
  • It all looked kind of old-fashioned really. Having seen how Real, Bayern, Bilbao, Schalke and Sporting play superquickly recently, this was like watching 90s Serie A in comparison.
  • Rosicky did well. The Ox is clearly good too but often makes the wrong decision on delivery at this stage. Santos and Gervinho looked good and urgent, though the game was old by the time they were unleashed. The defence looks pretty good, but did get carved open a few times. I blame lack of tracking back, it was that sort of game.
  • Ramsay - awful. He doesn't anticipate anything and looks very laboured and slow. This might be the high vantage point because everyone looks slow. In fact the whole game looked like it was played at half-speed, maybe because it was. Song got caught in possession by Torres a number of times - it was so obvious as a spectator that nobody was giving him a shout.
  • Chelsea - meh.
  • That said, if they were at all clinical they would've won easily. At least three times they had openings where I felt they ought to've been gutted not to score. But they were clearly after the draw, and celebrated it accordingly.
  • There was a magnificent display of leadership by John Terry at the end. He marched over to the Chelsea end, Cech and Cole in tow, and gave as fine a show of badge-thumping as you'll see. And then he did the pointing-and-scanning the horizon thing round their quadrant, which he probably didn't intend to look like a fascist salute, before going on to point out individual members of the crowd. Seriously, Bill Clinton couldn't've worked that crowd better. Would follow.

It was on the line, but i think i can move on

the phrase 'stonewall penalty' is worse than about fifteen unplayables, will of been disappointeds and not that type of players put together

I really like it, it's got such an unlikely etymology

Ismael Klata, Sunday, 22 April 2012 12:14 (fourteen years ago)

what if it was awarded because of a bunch of players wearing dresses throwing bricks at the officials

there it is

The term “hipster racism” from Carmen Van Kerckhove at Racialicious (nakhchivan), Sunday, 22 April 2012 12:16 (fourteen years ago)

ha this is from 2000 and someone claims that the correspondent asking abt the phrase has surely misheard it....

Mark Power claims: "Chambers is right: "stonewall" is a verb, as in "to block obdurately, or Defensively". I suspect what Seamus or Ron have seen is a stone-cold penalty, as in "dead obvious", or "a no-brainer".

I don't disagree with much of what Darragh said in that post upthread but really the problem is that Redknapp got so drunk on the good times that he convinced himself he didn't need the likes of Pienaar, Corluka, Pavlyuchenko, even Bassong. On a season-long or week-by-week basis. And then complaining about having a small squad when everyone gets knackered and it all starts to go wrong. I suppose the equivalent would have been United of the last couple of seasons offloading someone like Park Ji-Sung and then missing out on the crucial goals he's tended to score near the end of the season.

And yeah, not signing a RW when it's been obvious for ages that Lennon is prone to injury and lapses of form and then having to overhaul the whole system to accommodate him. And not having the will or managerial ability to get Bale to play in position.

I have a feeling that, give or take a centreback here or there, a better manager could have won the league with the squad we had at the start of the season, but Redknapp was never brought in to win titles or even qualify for the CL, he was brought in to stave off relegation. I doubt Levy expected what happened next and I'd love to know what the's thinking right now.

Homosexual Satan Wasp (Matt DC), Sunday, 22 April 2012 12:31 (fourteen years ago)

great finish ffs
