In retrospect, she was probably a pretty big reason I managed to make it through a season and a half of the Tudors.

I also remember when The Other Boleyn Girl movie came out, she e-mailed into Mark Kermode's radio show on the BBC to correct him on his historical inaccuracies. Not that he had any idea who she was.

I was pretty stoked to see Ann Boleyn chick in this now.

Agreed that Asha/Yara is a lot different (and less attractive) to how I imagined her. The usual good job on Brienne and Margaery, though.

Looks like they're cutting a fairly big chunk out of Arya's story if she's going straight to Harrenhal.

And how good is the art direction this season? Pyke castle looks incredible. Everything does.

Considering that a big chunk of Arya's story in book 2 is wandering around the woods, I'm kinda glad they condensed it a bit.

was really angry at "willem"... so glad the story ended with him getting hurt badly.

will miss that dude's overegged north of england schtick.

yara is not nearly as hot as i pictured her in the books...also she doesn't hardly look "hard" at all (she's supposed to be a salty seafaring bad-ass, she looks like blossom or something).

however i am so, so pleased with the casting of gilly that i will overlook it.

last night in the movie store i overheard the clerks talking about this show and one guy asked "have they got rid of the queen yet?" and oh how i laughed.

guys, i really don't think Asha is supposed to be that attractive in the books

Tyrion's three-way Myrcella marriage sting wasn't in the book was it? Or if it was there were like several hundred pages of him having huge and lovingly-described feasts with minor nobles between him talking to each of the major players and I didn't really notice what was going on.

Only in the sense that one of the three plots in the book involved Tommen and not Myrcella, otherwise, yeah, in the book (and they're all laid in a single chapter, though the Pycelle payoff takes longer to uncover, IIRC).

lol Blossom was all sorts of cuet back in the day, brah! But yeah, the Asha in my head had a niftier haircut and also was the horsey sort of hott.

Anyway, I'm beginning to feel that the name change from Asha isn't so much because of the speculated similarity to Osha, but because Yara is simply a different character. Like, instead of the one Greyjoy whom I wkiw, she's just another dour, joyless (err) Greyjoy.

And I've been thinking that while I generally feel that the TV depictions of most of the characters improve markedly upon the book analogues, Asha/Yara and Renly seem like the two who've suffered the most in the adaptation. With Renly, his book self is supposed to be the Robert of 15 years ago, virile, hot, and dashing, but the TV version is so diffident and whiny that I can't buy that loads of nobles are willing to back him because they love him.

I think they've kind of coasted on this notion that people would rally to him because "everyone knows what Stannis is", though it might be not be adequate in the long run. He's certainly been given lesser screen time.

otm about renly. also get the feel that loris tyrell isn't as hot as he's made out to be in the books.

Renly is pretty charming and charismatic IMO, but watching S1 before having read any of the books has coloured my perception of the character.

Renly looking pretty hot this season IMO. I'm liking the Scruff look.

The books don't have a tonne of POV characters, iirc-- I mean, there are a tonne, but storylines like Davos' and Jon's almost felt overtold? I loved that Renly scene and hope there's more extrapolative stuff

Davos is really our only POV in Dragonstone though. I think we could have done without Sam's POV for the Wall, but I see where some things couldn't have been told without it.

I loved this week's episode! Tyrion & the three was great, I died @ Vary's OOOH WE MUSTN'T TELL THE QUEEN. He's one of my favourites in the show without a doubt.

I'm glad they've cut out a bit out of certain timelines.
