pick out the players there that were hyped from youth teams, tho, cf sterling. I'm not talking players that break into full teams while young, that's kinda almost the opposite of the pacheco syndrome i'm referencing

Lolled pretty hard at the Cruijff to L'pool rumour. Never going to happen. He'll only work for Barca and Ajax, and lives far too pleasantly in Barcelona to go to Liverpool.

Other than that, it would indeed be disaster. Cruijff wants to either work like a dictator, or not at all (and why not, if he's in the position to desire this). He's not flexible and doesn't tolerate other opinions. He'd be gone before you can say 'Liverpool won't be on dis ting '12-'13'.

Van Gaal though, I could see him do it. Equally despotic but more up for a challenge.

HO WBEAUTIFUL IS THE GENTLYFALLINGBLOOD? (Le Bateau Ivre), Saturday, 14 April 2012 11:01 (fourteen years ago)

Looking ahead to what will happen at the end of the season, Connor said: "We will all sit down, assess what has gone on over the course of the season and discuss the last 13 games.

"The club will find their path for the future and, if that's with me, fine. If not, I accept that as well."

STFU YOU FUCKING IDIOT

red is hungry green is jawless (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 14 April 2012 11:30 (fourteen years ago)

idk seems like a reasonable answer

j'en ai cache (darraghmac), Saturday, 14 April 2012 11:35 (fourteen years ago)

the reasonable answer wd have been "Clearly I am shit and incapable of transforming this terrible squad into a functional football team, and I will be going into a hot bath to open my veins as soon as the season finishes. I can fully understand why the supporters want me as far away as possible from the fucking shell of a club I've helped to create and I promise to never, ever work in football ever again."

red is hungry green is jawless (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 14 April 2012 11:38 (fourteen years ago)

you're too harsh on managers imo

j'en ai cache (darraghmac), Saturday, 14 April 2012 11:41 (fourteen years ago)

it's not so much managers as managers who were previously assistant managers and logically bear every bit as much blame for the team's ineptitude as the gormless twat they were working alongside until 8 games ago

red is hungry green is jawless (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 14 April 2012 11:42 (fourteen years ago)

and then have the fucking gall to beg to be kept on at the club they've fucked up as if it's perfectly reasonable and everybody wd be cool with it

red is hungry green is jawless (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 14 April 2012 11:43 (fourteen years ago)

maybe, just every now and then, an apology and an admission might be in order

red is hungry green is jawless (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 14 April 2012 11:44 (fourteen years ago)

wouldn't serve any use from him, and wouldn't serve any use without a resignation, which wouldn't help at this stage

j'en ai cache (darraghmac), Saturday, 14 April 2012 11:47 (fourteen years ago)

it wouldn't hurt either

red is hungry green is jawless (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 14 April 2012 11:48 (fourteen years ago)

staunton dilemma, imo. shouldn't have taken the job, can't blame him for doing so, must hate him for doing so, complex imo

j'en ai cache (darraghmac), Saturday, 14 April 2012 11:48 (fourteen years ago)

i'm just kinda disgusted that it's been left to drift to this whimpering, hilarious exit. Morgan and Moxey are quite rightly getting just as much blame from the supporters, and McCarthy and Connor both seem like decent people, but there's a spinelessness to the endless positive talk when sometimes you just want to hear "we weren't good enough, we fucked up, sorry"

red is hungry green is jawless (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 14 April 2012 11:50 (fourteen years ago)

Connor at least hasn't taken Mick's combative approach to the fans, which was just another indicator of the guy's mulishness. Bone-headed and no nonsense is a fucking terrible look in top flight football in 2012.

red is hungry green is jawless (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 14 April 2012 11:51 (fourteen years ago)

ah this is just getting a weight off my shoulders. we're unwatchable this season and not because of the defeats, the unwatchability is the prime cause of the defeats if anything.

red is hungry green is jawless (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 14 April 2012 11:53 (fourteen years ago)

eh you know if you were in connor's shoes you'd have stayed on too once asked. couple of months extra pay before the inevitable

i read something this week saying curbs didnt take the job cos he wouldnt accept a wage reduction on relegation, so uh maybe morgan's sensible book-keeping is kind of a silver lining at least

otoh megson in the stands, ruh roh

r|t|c, Saturday, 14 April 2012 12:00 (fourteen years ago)

idk it's no good to say it but maybe yo-yo is not the worst place you could be. I'm no expert on what it takes to make the leap up to staying in the top division for good but more fail, and fail with disastrous effect, than succeed and keeping a lid on spending is certainly an inhibitor but it's also the safe path in the medium/long term.

j'en ai cache (darraghmac), Saturday, 14 April 2012 12:08 (fourteen years ago)

i can't fault the sensible book-keeping, i don't wanna throw stupid money at the problem. if i was Connor i'd have snatched their hands off, obv.

Morgan and Moxey don't appear to know anything about football, is the problem. the book-keeping part of the equation ideally shd happen alongside an imaginative approach to getting the right management staff, having a vision for the club that goes beyond "being in PL as cheap as possible" and trying to play football. if we sit mid-table in the Championship on those terms i'd be happier than the farce that's unfolded over the last 3 seasons tbh.

red is hungry green is jawless (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 14 April 2012 12:10 (fourteen years ago)

Albion and Hodgson have their flaws but appear to be a much better model of this kind of approach than we've ever managed. and that's on the back of a smaller fan-base.

red is hungry green is jawless (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 14 April 2012 12:11 (fourteen years ago)

hmmm failure at a higher level is kinda often a necessary step from succeeding at a lower. I mean I'm just devil's advocating here i'd have had connor poisoned by now obv.

j'en ai cache (darraghmac), Saturday, 14 April 2012 12:13 (fourteen years ago)

the thing is that the flaws are systemic, have been there since we got promoted, and Connor's been part of that system from the beginning

red is hungry green is jawless (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 14 April 2012 12:14 (fourteen years ago)

tbf to Connor I have no idea how much involvement he had in transfer policy, and obv we're not likely to find out now. maybe he wd have realised the importance of having full backs or something.

red is hungry green is jawless (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 14 April 2012 12:15 (fourteen years ago)

Tevez is gonna do it for these fuckers isn't he

Number None, Saturday, 14 April 2012 12:16 (fourteen years ago)

there's a little sick part of my stomach that thinks the cunts cd still offer him the job in the Championship next season. continuity's a good thing but ffs there are limits.

red is hungry green is jawless (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 14 April 2012 12:16 (fourteen years ago)

Connor’s own fate will be decided after the final game at Wigan on May 13, but he said yesterday he would like many of the current squad to remain at the club.

then i read stuff like this and wonder how easy it is to buy poison

red is hungry green is jawless (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 14 April 2012 12:18 (fourteen years ago)

ha i've just remembered i was having a mutual commiseration session with a Villa fan outside the pub last night

red is hungry green is jawless (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 14 April 2012 12:21 (fourteen years ago)

albion yo-yo'd for years til they got a foothold, you lot stayed up there for a while. if the finances are in good nick then at least it's only a football problem - would you rather be qpr getting relegated?

gotta look at newcastle's example, they'd never have sorted themselves out on the hoof in the prem. relegation is necessary sometimes

r|t|c, Saturday, 14 April 2012 12:28 (fourteen years ago)

Bitterly disappointed Tevez still knows how to play football and make goals. It just wasn't what I expected.

HO WBEAUTIFUL IS THE GENTLYFALLINGBLOOD? (Le Bateau Ivre), Saturday, 14 April 2012 12:29 (fourteen years ago)

i can live with relegation, as i say it's the manner of it, and the worries about what will be learned. nobody's making very encouraging noises about improving the football element.

red is hungry green is jawless (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 14 April 2012 12:30 (fourteen years ago)

saw some graffiti in town this morning saying OPPOSE THE EPL, SUNDAY APRIL 22ND and i was like yeah i'm down for that, but i suppose it was just a horribly formed D

jabba hands, Saturday, 14 April 2012 12:32 (fourteen years ago)

Newcastle have a shitload more money and a bigger fanbase though, they were always going to come straight back up.

Agree that West Brom were up and down loads pre-Hodgson, and they would probably have gone down without them. I don't think relegation is the end of the world for Wolves really, there are other clubs, Wigan particularly, who could well be completely screwed by going down but I reckon Wolves would at least have a decent foundation to build off in the Championship, with the right manager. Last bit is crucial obviously and also the hardest bit to get right even without an idiot chairman.

Homosexual Satan Wasp (Matt DC), Saturday, 14 April 2012 12:34 (fourteen years ago)

current squad sans the 2 or 3 genuinely good players in there is gonna struggle in the Championship, i'm calling it. and now enough of my moaning :)

red is hungry green is jawless (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 14 April 2012 12:35 (fourteen years ago)

It's a shame we don't have a City fan here to give us his/her thoughts on the Tevez situation. I'd imagine if he plays, scores, and they end up winning the league then all will be forgiven. But if he plays and they still end up not winning the league it's got to feel a bit like eating your own shit. Or maybe someone else's.

Let's Talk About Socks (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Saturday, 14 April 2012 12:36 (fourteen years ago)

Not a Citeh fan, but could it be possible they keep Tevez on board if they offload Balotelli this summer?

HO WBEAUTIFUL IS THE GENTLYFALLINGBLOOD? (Le Bateau Ivre), Saturday, 14 April 2012 12:39 (fourteen years ago)

I think it's impossible to say at the moment - a lot hangs on whether they win the league, and if they don't, whether Mancini gets the elbow.

Let's Talk About Socks (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Saturday, 14 April 2012 12:42 (fourteen years ago)

get rid of two from three imo

j'en ai cache (darraghmac), Saturday, 14 April 2012 13:16 (fourteen years ago)

Fuck it. Double whammy. Watching both games simultaneously and Carroll gets there seconds before Tevez.

Let's Talk About Socks (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Saturday, 14 April 2012 13:18 (fourteen years ago)

Oh fucking fuck

Let's Talk About Socks (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Saturday, 14 April 2012 13:19 (fourteen years ago)

Tevez got there before Carroll for me. Still shit

Number None, Saturday, 14 April 2012 13:20 (fourteen years ago)

Tevez hat-trick

Let's Talk About Socks (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Saturday, 14 April 2012 13:24 (fourteen years ago)

golf club celebration, the twat

Number None, Saturday, 14 April 2012 13:25 (fourteen years ago)

This is a truly terrible footballing week so far

Let's Talk About Socks (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Saturday, 14 April 2012 13:26 (fourteen years ago)

can well imagine there's pro-tevez city fans that think mancini's a twat and the money is abstract and someone else's therefore nbd

r|t|c, Saturday, 14 April 2012 13:36 (fourteen years ago)

that was fucking magnificent tbf

Number None, Saturday, 14 April 2012 13:38 (fourteen years ago)

oh also re tevez staying there's some talk aguero/madrid may be a thing this summer

r|t|c, Saturday, 14 April 2012 13:45 (fourteen years ago)

guh

some dopey stuff from rangers rite now, just hoofing it to a stranded zamora

r|t|c, Saturday, 14 April 2012 14:29 (fourteen years ago)

Blackburn mounting a serious relegation challenge now

red is hungry green is jawless (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 14 April 2012 15:34 (fourteen years ago)

the way this is going swansea should really score a couple more before it's done, i don't know how much of that is them being particularly ruthless despite being 3-0 up and how much is blackburn being utterly rubbish. (xp)

michael nyman cat (Merdeyeux), Saturday, 14 April 2012 15:36 (fourteen years ago)

Well that was fucking brutal. (bad) City were just so clinical. Watching it, it didn't feel like we were getting slammed 6-1 (maybe it was all the beer I drank, though), but at the same time we had very few clear cut chances to complain about. Have to say I lol'ed at Tevez' celebration for his hat trick. I hate (bad) City, but I actually quite like Tevez. Man City are the only team to properly destroy us this season (11-2 on aggregate: yikes). To whoever it was upthread last week saying Norwich never look capable or threatening: we've scored against *every* team in the premier league this season, and only failed to score in 5 games our of 34 so far. That's pretty threatening and capable.

CraigG, Saturday, 14 April 2012 16:08 (fourteen years ago)

load of bollocks today, really could have done with cisse

will make next saturday's mugging of spurs at loftus road all the sweeter tho
