Also they called them "space jams" which means, to me, JAMZ.
nah, jamz these days means just tunes. viz. thisismyjam.com where i recently shared a new (2012) dr. john tune i'm fond of. "space jam" chosen presumably w/connection to michael jordan/warner bros. movie.

gonna finally check out native foods, the new veggie restaurant in the loop, for lunch today if anyone cares to join me. if not i'll just read.
― congratulations (n/a), Friday, 13 April 2012 15:51 (fourteen years ago)
Ooh, I would like to check that place out, too. Today's not the day, though.
― Cuba Pudding, Jr. (jaymc), Friday, 13 April 2012 15:55 (fourteen years ago)
native foods review: ordering process was kind of annoying - they wanted to explain vegan foods to me, then i had to give my email for a loyalty card, then they kind of tricked me into ordering extra food (asked if i wanted fries, i assumed it was a free side with my entree but it was actually extra) - but the food was good. i had a "bacon cheeseburger" that was more of a seitan sandwich and sweet potato fries. i am stuffed.
― congratulations (n/a), Friday, 13 April 2012 19:30 (fourteen years ago)
i'll have to try that place sometime, but i'll be wary when ordering. did you have to get the loyalty card?
― heated debate over derpy hooves (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Friday, 13 April 2012 19:42 (fourteen years ago)
i probably could have refused but she took my email down wrong anyways so i'm not going to be getting any spam from them
also: kinda pricy (about $15 for the sandwich and fries and tip, plus a free iced tea for being a first-time customer) but you get a good amount of food. i probably should have taken some of it home with me because i'm stuffed now.

I enjoyed some of this weekend's weather. How about you?
― People aren't for comparing, they are for loving. (Je55e), Monday, 16 April 2012 15:23 (fourteen years ago)
Yes! Thunder by night, no rain by fay is a perfect combo.

Rain the new scent, by Fay

On Saturday I saw a poster in the window of a convenience store for a band called DEEP FAYED.
― Cuba Pudding, Jr. (jaymc), Monday, 16 April 2012 16:05 (fourteen years ago)
I liked the weather this weekend. But had a sort of subpar run on Sunday. Not acclimated to the warmer weather yet.
― Jeff, Monday, 16 April 2012 16:20 (fourteen years ago)
i def liked sleeping with the window open last night and hearing the thunder and rain

imagine how much fun it would be to be flying one of those things through the city like that, with full permission!

Oh, I saw one of those right above Chicago/Western while leaving my yoga class last night!

I used to love it when the B52s from the SAC base 100 miles or so down the road used to fly mock bombing runs on the bridge in my home town.
These helicopters pretty much just bum me out for the mentality and future of this country.
― Silky Slim (dan m), Tuesday, 17 April 2012 18:45 (fourteen years ago)
oh yeah, i don't like to think about what they represent, but i think it would be so cool to swoosh in and out of the skyscraper valleys on one of 'em.
― heated debate over derpy hooves (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Tuesday, 17 April 2012 18:56 (fourteen years ago)
A peace president would keep the helicopters around just for that.
― caro's johnson (Eazy), Tuesday, 17 April 2012 19:08 (fourteen years ago)
The Air 'n' Water Show would be right up my bailiwick b/c I love looking at airplanes, but the military aspect of it is kind of a boner killer.

In a statement, OMEC added that it was part of routine training and in no way related to the upcoming NATO summit in Chicago in May.
Uh huh.

you know that guy who's at all the shows and records the bands with his mic on a stick but never says anything to the bands and often just sits there reading in the dark while the bands play? i wonder what he does with his recordings, if he's just got rooms and rooms of recordings of live shows from the past 10 years.
― congratulations (n/a), Tuesday, 17 April 2012 21:08 (fourteen years ago)
He does, as well as every copy of the Reader from the past two decades, or at least once did.
― caro's johnson (Eazy), Tuesday, 17 April 2012 21:09 (fourteen years ago)
it's weird that he doesn't make the recordings available in any way, or that he doesn't even have a list online anywhere.
― congratulations (n/a), Tuesday, 17 April 2012 21:09 (fourteen years ago)
It's part of his personal code, to get permission to record in exchange for bands knowing he won't sell them or anything. Sometimes if he knows you're at a show, he'll show up with a CD of a past show for you.
― caro's johnson (Eazy), Tuesday, 17 April 2012 21:11 (fourteen years ago)
but he can't possibly be listening to all of those recordings, and he's not providing access to them to anyone, so they're just sitting somewhere doing nothing. sad.
― congratulations (n/a), Tuesday, 17 April 2012 21:18 (fourteen years ago)
Until 2049!

― caro's johnson (Eazy), Tuesday, 17 April 2012 21:22 (fourteen years ago)
i don't know what you're talking about, but i look forward to when i'm 70 years old and can finally listen to whatever terrible fake fictions sets he recorded

Ha, one time in C@n@st@, we couldn't remember how someone's part went, and so we called A@d@m to acquire the recording from when we played it live the month before.

well, i really wanted to organise some kind of FAP with you chilxors, and ytth particularly wanted to meet kenan, but too much family stuff/too tired so didn't - next time, guys! can also recommend swissotel if you have guests wanting accommodation in downtown: we had a beautiful room with a great view on the 38th floor, comfy bed, and it was significantly cheaper than any other hotel (if you pay up front).
also: weather was just perfect - greatest lightning storm/s i've ever seen, including FORKED lightning, which has always been my dream to see.
― just1n3, Wednesday, 18 April 2012 02:13 (fourteen years ago)
Dan, that's cool. I started a thread about pro sports players' and teams' support for gay fans and It Gets Better, etc. I was going to post that story there, but wanted to check w/ you first.
J, I'm glad you had a good visit. Sorry we missed you. 38th floor sounds great. I bet the view was amazing. I'm jealous of all the jerks who work with such a view every day. I'm surprised by the number of ordinary schmoes who get that kind of view. (Though I'm sure it stops being remarkable after a while.)
Is forked lighting rare? Or does it just not happen where you live or where you grew up?
― People aren't for comparing, they are for loving. (Je55e), Wednesday, 18 April 2012 03:30 (fourteen years ago)
Oh! Did you get to see the lighting from the 38th floor?? THAT is something I've always wanted to experience. Like, how awesome would a thunderstorm on the 90th floor of the Sears Tower be?? (Who knows? It might be very awesoe or not be very awesome at all.)
― People aren't for comparing, they are for loving. (Je55e), Wednesday, 18 April 2012 03:32 (fourteen years ago)
post away xp

thunderstorms aren't all that common in the part of nz i'm from (maybe a couple every winter, but you're lucky if you get 5 or 6 good flashes of sheet lightning), and it's about the same here in the bay area. i ALMOST missed the first storm - we had the curtains closed, watching a movie, when we heard a really loud crack of thunder, and i then spent about the next 30 mins perched on a chair in front of our window. the next night i saw one flash of forked lightning (super rare in my experience - i've only ever seen it once in my life, and that was more than 20 years ago), and just about peed my pants in excitement. my in-laws have recently moved into a condo on the 12th floor of a building that looks out over the lake (on randolph), and they were telling me they see forked lightning ALL THE TIME. so jealous.

Willis Tower.
― Jeff, Wednesday, 18 April 2012 11:57 (fourteen years ago)
Gah. I don't even write "Sears" on purpose. It effectively has two names now. The rest if the country probably has no idea that it's name has changed and lots of locals lapse into "Sears".
― People aren't for comparing, they are for loving. (Je55e), Wednesday, 18 April 2012 13:56 (fourteen years ago)
Someone corrected me to "Willis" the other day. I said "I know what I meant to say."
― Silky Slim (dan m), Wednesday, 18 April 2012 14:24 (fourteen years ago)
I'm no stan for Sears Roebuck & Co., but it's an iconic name. Over time people will start calling it "Willis." A friend who works there says that he calls it Willis or "Willis Tower, which used to be called the Sears Tower."
― People aren't for comparing, they are for loving. (Je55e), Wednesday, 18 April 2012 14:52 (fourteen years ago)
I'm going to call it Scooby Tower.
