he's not in prison because he hasn't been sentenced

there are probably all sorts of different jail arrangements available, probably some sort of luxury solitary cell for celebrities, politicans and police officers.

well the judge can mandate you be held in prison while awaiting trial, that's what bail is all about

i always thought you were in county jail until your trial was over and then back and forth during appeals

i know this as a journalistic distinction but i wonder which actual buildings people are put in during x circumstance etc.

i thought this was the distinction b/t jail and prison. to a great extent, jail is where they put you for the time being. prison is where you go after conviction. no?

tbh i am trying not to follow this story too much because it's making me crazy but he is probably in a county jail in protective custody or something. depends on jurisdiction but most prisons are for inmates serving sentences of over a year.

Prison = more serious felonies
jail = not so serious

yeah i get that, i just meant, in the current circumstance, is it possible/likely that GZ would be considered "in jail" legally even if he was not literally in a jail. minor point i guess.

he's "in custody", iirc. that's all i've heard so far. i'd be really surprised if they just threw him in with the general population in a whatever-county jail.
