hmm yeah hadn't thought that he might not be in jail right now. I guess that doesn't happen til after the arraignment

Jilly Boel and the Eltones (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 12 April 2012 21:40 (fourteen years ago)

he's not in prison because he hasn't been sentenced

there are probably all sorts of different jail arrangements available, probably some sort of luxury solitary cell for celebrities, politicans and police officers.

the late great, Thursday, 12 April 2012 21:42 (fourteen years ago)

well the judge can mandate you be held in prison while awaiting trial, that's what bail is all about

Jilly Boel and the Eltones (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 12 April 2012 21:45 (fourteen years ago)

oh i didn't know that

i always thought you were in county jail until your trial was over and then back and forth during appeals

the late great, Thursday, 12 April 2012 21:49 (fourteen years ago)

i'm pretty sure (?) it's real

prison = sentenced
jail = awaiting trial or serving short sentence

ah right. sorry for eliding the difference there.

i know this as a journalistic distinction but i wonder which actual buildings people are put in during x circumstance etc.

goole, Thursday, 12 April 2012 22:11 (fourteen years ago)

So not real. This guy's hands must be shaking so much by now, I can't imagine he's steady enough to type.

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 12 April 2012 22:13 (fourteen years ago)

can't imagine someone would go through the effort (including hannity tweets circa the time of a reported conversation) if it was gonna be not-clever

― BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Thursday, April 12, 2012 4:34 PM (37 minutes ago) Bookmark Flag Post Permalink

maybe they are trying and failing to be clever. it happens.

flesh, the devil, and a wolf (wolf) (amateurist), Thursday, 12 April 2012 22:13 (fourteen years ago)

but that's the irl distinction, not just for journalists. i don't get the question maybe.

i thought this was the distinction b/t jail and prison. to a great extent, jail is where they put you for the time being. prison is where you go after conviction. no?

flesh, the devil, and a wolf (wolf) (amateurist), Thursday, 12 April 2012 22:14 (fourteen years ago)

oh somebody noted that above

flesh, the devil, and a wolf (wolf) (amateurist), Thursday, 12 April 2012 22:15 (fourteen years ago)

tbh i am trying not to follow this story too much because it's making me crazy but he is probably in a county jail in protective custody or something. depends on jurisdiction but most prisons are for inmates serving sentences of over a year.

kneel aurmstrong (harbl), Thursday, 12 April 2012 22:16 (fourteen years ago)

Prison = more serious felonies
jail = not so serious

Exile in lolville (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 12 April 2012 22:27 (fourteen years ago)

yeah i get that, i just meant, in the current circumstance, is it possible/likely that GZ would be considered "in jail" legally even if he was not literally in a jail. minor point i guess.

goole, Thursday, 12 April 2012 22:29 (fourteen years ago)

he's "in custody", iirc. that's all i've heard so far. i'd be really surprised if they just threw him in with the general population in a whatever-county jail.

it's ok hoos i believe the twitter is real

kneel aurmstrong (harbl), Friday, 13 April 2012 00:18 (fourteen years ago)

If they were real, it would show a level of recklessness that boggles the mind. A man on trial for 2nd degree murder, who knows his every move will be publicized and dissected on national tv, doesn't spout off to the public like that. I suspect they are fake. Sniff test fail.

When someone has a gun in his hand and the safety off, it should never be "an accident". Pulling the gun out is a declaration of intent to harm.

Aimless, Friday, 13 April 2012 01:30 (fourteen years ago)

not attaching much significance to stray turns of phrase in live interviews

BEMORE SUPER FABBY (contenderizer), Friday, 13 April 2012 01:32 (fourteen years ago)

DUI crashes are "accidents," too, and they often kill people, and they are crimes.
