pandemic, Thursday, 12 April 2012 15:27 (fourteen years ago)

where's a good place to see league stats?

think i read somewhere alejandro faurlin was leading the tackles chart months after doing his cruciates

r|t|c, Thursday, 12 April 2012 15:41 (fourteen years ago)

http://www.whoscored.com/Regions/252/Tournaments/2/Seasons/2935/Stages/5476/PlayerStatistics/England-Premier-League-2011-2012

according to this he still is...? can't even find lucas on there though

r|t|c, Thursday, 12 April 2012 15:45 (fourteen years ago)

bullshit stat anyway tbh

r|t|c, Thursday, 12 April 2012 15:47 (fourteen years ago)

Lucas isn't on that list because he didn't play enough matches to qualify, you can see his stats if you look at Liverpool individually tho. Tackles + interceptions probably a better measure of effectiveness.

boxall, Thursday, 12 April 2012 15:51 (fourteen years ago)

I got the Lucas stat from Jonathon Wilson's 'Are LFC better off without Gerrard' column from earlier in the week. It was total # of tackles won.
xp

pandemic, Thursday, 12 April 2012 15:52 (fourteen years ago)

adebayor's stats are noteworthy for being p much exactly what you'd expect.

Upt0eleven, Thursday, 12 April 2012 16:21 (fourteen years ago)

i could've told you that

really hope we don't sign him permanently, get a centre forward who wants to be a centre forward instead

j'en ai cache (darraghmac), Thursday, 12 April 2012 16:28 (fourteen years ago)

We're much better with Adebayor in the team, but lately he's been dropping deeper and deeper. Better than Saha at any rate.

But he's clearly going to Liverpool. Reckon he'd give up after a few months of a permanent deal anyway.

Homosexual Satan Wasp (Matt DC), Thursday, 12 April 2012 16:34 (fourteen years ago)

he's given up after a few non-permanent ones with us at any rate

bale LEFT lennon COVERED adebayor GET UP THERE AND JUMP YOU CLOWN how hard can coaching be, really?

j'en ai cache (darraghmac), Thursday, 12 April 2012 16:42 (fourteen years ago)

The idea that Cryuff or Van Gaal would want to be DOF at Liverpool seems far fetched to me. Can't see them getting on with KD, although perhaps that's the idea.

pandemic, Friday, 13 April 2012 08:12 (fourteen years ago)

won't matter by june 1st tbf

j'en ai cache (darraghmac), Friday, 13 April 2012 08:16 (fourteen years ago)

looks like fsg haven't a clue what they're doing

r|t|c, Friday, 13 April 2012 08:38 (fourteen years ago)

They were bounced into giving Dalglish the job full-time after a great second half of last season, but now he's pretty much unsackable and they're flapping by taking out everyone else.

Homosexual Satan Wasp (Matt DC), Friday, 13 April 2012 09:02 (fourteen years ago)

Don't really get the idea he's unsackable tbh.

pandemic, Friday, 13 April 2012 09:04 (fourteen years ago)

i don't think he's unsackable but he does seem to have inordinate influence with FSG

red is hungry green is jawless (Noodle Vague), Friday, 13 April 2012 09:15 (fourteen years ago)

he didn't have to be given the job in the summer and he's eminently sackable now- there is no problem here.

j'en ai cache (darraghmac), Friday, 13 April 2012 10:41 (fourteen years ago)

he won't be "sacked" though, will he?

Upt0eleven, Friday, 13 April 2012 11:05 (fourteen years ago)

There'd be uproar among the fans and I'm not sure Henry wants to by That Guy. OTOH if Liverpool aren't in the CL at the end of next season he probably won't care any more.

Homosexual Satan Wasp (Matt DC), Friday, 13 April 2012 11:10 (fourteen years ago)

probably not- tbf to him i'm not sure that would be a problem, either

j'en ai cache (darraghmac), Friday, 13 April 2012 11:11 (fourteen years ago)

are there any fans that would really get all UPROAR now? kenny is one of the worst managers in the league atm and if their best players (lucas and suarez) leave for a european league top half team then they are p screwed.

Thoughts? You must have loads. (a hoy hoy), Friday, 13 April 2012 11:33 (fourteen years ago)

You don't understand football fans. Kevin Keegan was a worse manager and that didn't stop Newcastle fans baying for Ashley's blood after he was sacked. Longstanding club heroes are just different.

I suspect privately there's some kind of agreement whereby Kenny will stand aside if they don't make the CL next season, with Henry giving him probably saner financial backing. Suarez and Lucas aren't really showing any signs of wanting to leave from what I can see.

Homosexual Satan Wasp (Matt DC), Friday, 13 April 2012 11:43 (fourteen years ago)

if

j'en ai cache (darraghmac), Friday, 13 April 2012 11:49 (fourteen years ago)

it's very hard to see this squad with this manager finishing top 4, or will it be 3 since we sucked at Europe this year?

red is hungry green is jawless (Noodle Vague), Friday, 13 April 2012 11:52 (fourteen years ago)

false analogy there with keegan, he hadnt nearly shown himself up like kenny has and there were loads of mitigating circumstances to point to like the cockney mafia unilaterally signing xisco and random uruguayan dudes and whatnot

r|t|c, Friday, 13 April 2012 11:55 (fourteen years ago)

think kenny will stay purely because cos i don't think there's a candidate to replace him right now that would make it look like progress rather than starting again from square one

save maybe idk... o'neill? or rafa just as the pointless new kenny.

villas-boas was probably the right man last summer, now too tarnished

r|t|c, Friday, 13 April 2012 12:01 (fourteen years ago)

cruyff and van gaal would be far better ideas as managers not dofs tbh

r|t|c, Friday, 13 April 2012 12:03 (fourteen years ago)

cruyff has accepted a deal in principle, so says twitter. if cruyff does come then who takes care of the contract negotioations and admin side of things, which i believe was part of comolli's job. does cruyff have a law degree? do you get someone else in as well? i mean if you're after a figurehead who's going to ensure there's a philosophy and style of play running through the club then wouldn't it make sense to either move dalglish upstairs or promote the academy directors who were brought in to establish that continuity in the first place and who know the blueprint better than anybody?

Chris, Friday, 13 April 2012 12:52 (fourteen years ago)

loooooool cryuff will be a massive disaster, i'm calling it

total football visions with jay spearing and stewart downing and king kenny

will be a revolt come november

Thoughts? You must have loads. (a hoy hoy), Friday, 13 April 2012 12:57 (fourteen years ago)

didnt rafa steal a bunch of the guys who were in the barca youth set-up, which is why the pool kids are doing p well now? cryuff will come in and fuck around with that because he is cryuff and he was very good at stuff 40/20 years ago

i just dont see it working on any level

Thoughts? You must have loads. (a hoy hoy), Friday, 13 April 2012 12:59 (fourteen years ago)

your shrill "predictions" are repetitive and tiresome.

I'm going to allow this! (LocalGarda), Friday, 13 April 2012 13:01 (fourteen years ago)

anyway i read today that apparently david dein been in the stand with fsg at a few recent games.

I'm going to allow this! (LocalGarda), Friday, 13 April 2012 13:02 (fourteen years ago)

just like cryuff's yearly revolts at ajax amirite

Thoughts? You must have loads. (a hoy hoy), Friday, 13 April 2012 13:02 (fourteen years ago)

If this is true, I don't see how it would necessarily be a disaster, Dalglish clearly isn't all about lumpen big men, he's kept on playing genuinely talented and skillful players like Suarez and Enrique all season. Dunno, if Cruyff can sort the midfield, get them a striker and carry on developing the youth team it could work.

Homosexual Satan Wasp (Matt DC), Friday, 13 April 2012 13:08 (fourteen years ago)

how and why would cruyff fuck up a barca-fied youth system having fathered it at barca in the first place?? probably the one and only thing i couldnt see going wrong

r|t|c, Friday, 13 April 2012 13:10 (fourteen years ago)

because football has moved on? he also fathered the ajax set-up and they think he doesn't add anything positive anymore and try to keep him away.

Thoughts? You must have loads. (a hoy hoy), Friday, 13 April 2012 13:13 (fourteen years ago)

"There are drastic measures necessary. I made a clear plan but my vision is not shared by those who should execute it," said Cruyff.

"What Johan wanted to do for Ajax's youth department was going too fast for me. I am not so dissatisfied with how things are going now," said Van Basten.

r|t|c, Friday, 13 April 2012 13:17 (fourteen years ago)

and havent ajax been doing so well in recent years to stick with the status quo after all

they are a shambles

r|t|c, Friday, 13 April 2012 13:18 (fourteen years ago)

xxp i'm sure kenny isnt as lumpen as the stereotype but i can't quite figure him seeing eye to eye with cruyff on either philosophically

besides that they are both dominant stubborn big man legends and idk if cruyff really does backseat the way fsg are probably thinking

dein would probably be a smart move if a bit cognitively dissonant idk

r|t|c, Friday, 13 April 2012 13:20 (fourteen years ago)

are the liv kids really all that btw? like, actually break into the first team good? non-bobblehead answers appreciated

i know a norwich fan who raves about ayala btw

r|t|c, Friday, 13 April 2012 13:23 (fourteen years ago)

ajax having to sell any players that start to look good cant help

i dont think anyone in football knows how to sort this out. having the best youth team in the world at any given time doesnt hurt though.

dein i dont have a read on. when he was good, he was the best. but also he is a massive ego and is prone to very stupid mistakes and needs people to reign him in. if they could get cryuff to do the football side and dein to be the business guy (and they could fit both of their egos into one room), it could be a hell of a partnership.

Thoughts? You must have loads. (a hoy hoy), Friday, 13 April 2012 13:25 (fourteen years ago)

i get a strong 'arry/venables "friends in high fleet street places" vibe with dein and never know whether to believe the hype

henry was pretty distraught when dein left wasnt he, not that his say should amount to anything

r|t|c, Friday, 13 April 2012 13:30 (fourteen years ago)

i mean if you're after a figurehead who's going to ensure there's a philosophy and style of play running through the club then wouldn't it make sense to either move dalglish upstairs or promote the academy directors who were brought in to establish that continuity in the first place and who know the blueprint better than anybody?

― Chris, Friday, 13 April 2012 13:52 (38 minutes ago) Bookmark

seems to me like this is the most sensible way of sorting it

r|t|c, Friday, 13 April 2012 13:31 (fourteen years ago)

are the liv kids really all that btw? like, actually break into the first team good? non-bobblehead answers appreciated

aren't they already starting to make it? kelly has overtaken johnson, spearing isn't useless, a couple are starting to make the bench (flanigan and robinson)

there are a couple guys who get mentioned like they could become big things - sterling obv and a couple other names from the kiddy cl run.

Thoughts? You must have loads. (a hoy hoy), Friday, 13 April 2012 13:32 (fourteen years ago)

Sterling, Suso, Adorjan and Wisdom all could come through imo - though I thought the same about Pacheco :(

Stevie T, Friday, 13 April 2012 13:33 (fourteen years ago)

Flanagan did put in possibly the worst defensive performance season the other night in fairness to the lad

Number None, Friday, 13 April 2012 13:34 (fourteen years ago)

yeah wisdom looks good

would bet against sterling making it but i'm not quite sure why really
