Both McCarthy and McArthur were both excellent for Wigan tonight. McCarthy's nascent Ireland career is already a long and tedious saga

fao nakh- doyle at everton will one in two it, his heart's not been in it for ireland since trap bizarrely attacked him last year and nv otm about wolves

90% of Ireland-based football conversations now revolve around Trappatoni's text-messaging habits

id fancy irelands chances better with jimmy m in a 433, not that it would be hugely incisive but even just to manage a bit of possession so the phrase heroic rearguard action isnt used before halftime

kinda want to do a "your mum likes a heroic rearguard action" joke here just because it's structurally pleasing

madness upthread, mcgeady is shit

I'm going to allow this! (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 11 April 2012 22:44 (fourteen years ago)

and he doesn't have good technique either, all he can do is an occasional barnstorming dribble... can't pass, can't shoot, can't cross.

I'm going to allow this! (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 11 April 2012 22:45 (fourteen years ago)

piecemeal empiricism at its worst

Michael B Higgins (Michael B), Wednesday, 11 April 2012 22:50 (fourteen years ago)

forgot to say, he lacks personality to the extent he makes mcshane look like keano

I'm still making my mind up with Aiden. It's weird having the most skilful player in the country yet being kind of pleased someone took an expensive punt on him. I think he'd make a great Valencia but tries too hard to be a Jinky.

A frustrating talent, but not as frustrating as Georgios Samaras.

The stadium managers sought to reinforce that message as before kick-off Loftus Road's giant screen showed Al Pacino's famous motivational speech from the film Any Given Sunday.

thing is man city didn't win it, united imploded

snap

mcgeady is shit btw. a gap in the team, unless one of his curiously ballooned crosses is dropped by an albanian postal clerk or w/e

commolli leaves lfc

j'en ai cache (darraghmac), Thursday, 12 April 2012 10:00 (fourteen years ago)

if this means Dalglish pushing for more control of the football side of things then this can only mean lols or heartbreak, depending on which shirt you wear

red is hungry green is jawless (Noodle Vague), Thursday, 12 April 2012 10:02 (fourteen years ago)

surely surely this is dalglish's dying swing.

The theory behind DOF is sound, but there are no coaches in english football, only managers.

j'en ai cache (darraghmac), Thursday, 12 April 2012 10:18 (fourteen years ago)

I'd rather they kept Commoli and hired Unai Emery (if Valencia's fans run him out of town)

pandemic, Thursday, 12 April 2012 10:22 (fourteen years ago)

Taking the fall for the Andy Carroll signing.

Homosexual Satan Wasp (Matt DC), Thursday, 12 April 2012 10:45 (fourteen years ago)

Except that Dalglish explicitly stated this morning that he himself identified every single player Commolli signed.

we are not bemused (onimo), Thursday, 12 April 2012 11:14 (fourteen years ago)

DOF is a great idea, it is just Commolli sucks. He has, what, two successes to his name? (finding us kolo toure when he was a shitty right midfielder and i guess berbatov to spurs?).

Thoughts? You must have loads. (a hoy hoy), Thursday, 12 April 2012 11:41 (fourteen years ago)

Suarez is a good footballer.

Yeah but its not exactly a successful signing for Liverpool. Guy who spends half the season not playing and bringing down the reputation of the club.

Thoughts? You must have loads. (a hoy hoy), Thursday, 12 April 2012 11:46 (fourteen years ago)

definitive list of commolli signings is tough to compile, tbh.

If g bale was loaned out to forest two years ago he'd be a commolli failure too by now, non?

j'en ai cache (darraghmac), Thursday, 12 April 2012 11:47 (fourteen years ago)

thats hardly his fault, at any other team suarez would have been told to do a mea culpa statement, the press would be briefed that he was unaware of local decorum and he might have got a two or three game ban, the decision to introduce a race war element to the liverpool persecution complex wasnt exactly comolli's

The term “hipster racism” from Carmen Van Kerckhove at Racialicious (nakhchivan), Thursday, 12 April 2012 11:49 (fourteen years ago)

comolli was probably decisive in signing bale and modric and for that all his minor failures can be forgiven

darren bent was sold at or near the price paid

i think it's pretty clear that dalglish was the biggest determinant of last summer's transfer policy

The term “hipster racism” from Carmen Van Kerckhove at Racialicious (nakhchivan), Thursday, 12 April 2012 11:52 (fourteen years ago)

be interesting to see if fsg appoint another dof and what happens structurally

Chris, Thursday, 12 April 2012 12:12 (fourteen years ago)

couple of tweets appear to be suggesting there may be more news today

Chris, Thursday, 12 April 2012 13:25 (fourteen years ago)

seems that peter brukner head of sports science has gone too. more departures to follow apparently.

Chris, Thursday, 12 April 2012 15:07 (fourteen years ago)

because you didnt have a head of sports science when kenny was last successful, he feels like such modern nonsense is holding them back

Thoughts? You must have loads. (a hoy hoy), Thursday, 12 April 2012 15:09 (fourteen years ago)

brukner was a purslow appointment, guessing they want their own people in.

Chris, Thursday, 12 April 2012 15:11 (fourteen years ago)

Btw don't know if it was mentioned up thread but Lucas still leading the LFC stats for 'tackles made' this season when he hasn't played since NOVEMBER is a disgreaceful indictment of the rest of our shambles of a midfield.

pandemic, Thursday, 12 April 2012 15:27 (fourteen years ago)

pandemic, Thursday, 12 April 2012 15:27 (fourteen years ago)

where's a good place to see league stats?

think i read somewhere alejandro faurlin was leading the tackles chart months after doing his cruciates

http://www.whoscored.com/Regions/252/Tournaments/2/Seasons/2935/Stages/5476/PlayerStatistics/England-Premier-League-2011-2012

according to this he still is...? can't even find lucas on there though

r|t|c, Thursday, 12 April 2012 15:45 (fourteen years ago)

bullshit stat anyway tbh

r|t|c, Thursday, 12 April 2012 15:47 (fourteen years ago)

Lucas isn't on that list because he didn't play enough matches to qualify, you can see his stats if you look at Liverpool individually tho. Tackles + interceptions probably a better measure of effectiveness.

boxall, Thursday, 12 April 2012 15:51 (fourteen years ago)

I got the Lucas stat from Jonathon Wilson's 'Are LFC better off without Gerrard' column from earlier in the week. It was total # of tackles won.
xp

pandemic, Thursday, 12 April 2012 15:52 (fourteen years ago)

adebayor's stats are noteworthy for being p much exactly what you'd expect.

Upt0eleven, Thursday, 12 April 2012 16:21 (fourteen years ago)

i could've told you that

really hope we don't sign him permanently, get a centre forward who wants to be a centre forward instead

j'en ai cache (darraghmac), Thursday, 12 April 2012 16:28 (fourteen years ago)

We're much better with Adebayor in the team, but lately he's been dropping deeper and deeper. Better than Saha at any rate.

But he's clearly going to Liverpool. Reckon he'd give up after a few months of a permanent deal anyway.
