all the conservatives who have fallen back on the position of "whoa whoa hold on now, don't rush to judgement, we need to decide these things by weighing the FACTS in a COURT OF LAW" must realize, well, that's the whole fucking problem with this case, right?

i mean i could have posted this like a week ago but still.

Brendan O'Neill is the editor of spiked, an independent online phenomenon dedicated to raising the horizons of humanity by waging a culture war of words against misanthropy, priggishness, prejudice, luddism, illiberalism and irrationalism in all their ancient and modern forms.

i read that and then closed the tab

let me guess

misanthropy = feminism
priggishness = feminism
prejudice = non-whites esp black people
luddism = the unemployed
illiberalism = liberalism
irrationalism = lived experience

Not really, he's nominally "left wing" but his articles have always been about juvenile trolling.

did this little thinkpiece from Debbie Downer Alan Dershowitz make its way onto this thread yet:

This special prosecutor sounds relatively sharp.

Many people would be unhappy with such a mixed outcome, but it is not the job of the law to make people happy.

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Wednesday, 11 April 2012 23:00 (fourteen years ago)

I don't really see what's so bad about what Dershowitz said in that piece. I mean he's basically right - we could wind up with a situation where the physical evidence directly cuts against Zimmerman's account, or we might not, in which case it's his version of the story (and whatever physical evidence) and some hazy eyewitness stuff versus some other also a bit hazy eyewitness stuff and 911 phone calls that are missing key parts of the story. Burden to indict is supposed to be relatively high and to convict even higher.

i don't believe in zimmerman (Hurting 2), Wednesday, 11 April 2012 23:03 (fourteen years ago)

I didn't say there was anything wrong with Dershowitz's piece, just that it was depressing

an independent online phenomenon (DJP), Wednesday, 11 April 2012 23:28 (fourteen years ago)

nothing's wrong with the piece itself. A great deal is wrong with Dershowitz the person tho.

this is gonna be just like oj can't wait

the late great, Thursday, 12 April 2012 00:12 (fourteen years ago)

The very least I was hoping for was an arrest, i.e. some institutional acknowledgement that there may have been some wrongdoing in the killing of an unarmed kid. The trial could still be a travesty, but at least Zimmerman's actions are going to actually be judged.

DRANGUS (Deric W. Haircare), Thursday, 12 April 2012 00:24 (fourteen years ago)

I hope you mean this in the literal sense.

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 12 April 2012 01:08 (fourteen years ago)

if this trial ends in acquital or a lesser charge but in the process we've "outed" the stupid stand your ground law as unworkable, some justice will have been done no?
