Still never really felt Class of 1984 as a horror movie tbh. But nonetheless, it's nominated.

agree it's a borderline case, I guess the gory stalk-and-kill conclusion tilted me in that direction. it's a weird movie, a melange of sci-fi, rape/revenge, and punxploitation.

I'd give Geir the benefit of the doubt that it's just a dig at Yoko's non-melodic tendency rather than a dig at her race. Wack opinion nevertheless.

still haven't seen exte, really ought to rectify. i've nominated three other sono movies here, only one of them as much-seen as exte (probably).

fire walk with me is already on the list, and i can't imagine that many people will vote for the funny games remake over the original. genuinely shocked that american psycho hasn't been mentioned once in this thread, though. seems to be a huge semi-recent horror favorite for a lot of people.

American Psycho, weirdly, doesn't feel like a horror movie to me

I mean, it obviously IS when I think about it, but that's not how it scanned to me when I saw it

American Psycho isn't horror. I don't feel like having a genre argument tho, so, here's my flaming bag of opinion.

I was all tense at first and then I was just worn down by the end.

I was all "oh shit, this is bleak" at first and then the movie entirely undercut itself with blatant narrative cheating and ranting soapboxism that IMO undermined the point it was trying to make

funny games made me not want to watch another haneke movie for a long time, cache was good tho

DJP and edward III otm. hated haneke as a result of funny games & the piano teacher, but started to come around after cache.

Ha, I much prefer the former two to his later work.

well, they're punishingly "intense", but little more than that, imo. i've seen most of his films now, and those are still the only two i really hate. haven't seen benny's video though...

Original Funny Games is just Haneke stomping on the audience's head repeatedly and shouting "YOU LOSE!" over and over again. Didn't bother with the remake. (Benny's Video pretty much a warm-up to FG and pulls the same bait-and-switch with audience loyalty, just with a little less Jim Carrey making the world's most annoying noise amplitude.)

Most of the time I'll take the punker shit over the mainstream efforts, but in this case, give me Time of the Wolf and Code Unknown any day.

... though I think Haneke maybe killed a horse in Wolf?

yeah, i wonder about that. pretty great movie on the whole, but that scene bothered me to no end.

or, well, i don't wonder. it's p clearly real animal snuff.

just checked the internets. the throat-slashing scene was supposedly shot in a slaughterhouse. not sure about that, as i seem to recall it being an outdoor shot, but w/e.

Praying Haneke never remakes Animal Farm.

Wouldn't mind a Haneke Muppets tho.

Hahaha. Well, if it makes you feel any better I probably won't vote for Funny Games in this poll, as the arbitrary 'what is horror' decider in my brain thinks it isn't a horror film.

just b/c it's horrible doesn't mean that it's horror.
