I like to look at pretty things, it's true.
You guys, have I already talked your ears off about The Runnies?

I'm glad you found music you love and I may listen to them sometime but I can't listen to music at work, so all I can really say at this time is "The Runnies"????

I am really loving the Chicago Past Tumblr. Who ever thought having two right angles on an expressway was a good idea? As seen here: http://chicagopast.tumblr.com/post/20235555363/more-information (pic to hueg to post here)

Jesse, it's not just that I like it -- I think people itt would like it in particular. I spare you guys most of the time! I have no idea about the name, but they are organ trio that plays baaaaadass rock music self-described as freaky deaky.
― two overweight dachshunds with three eyes (La Lechera), Tuesday, 10 April 2012 15:44 (fourteen years ago)
that chicago past tumblr is terrifice, i like that the layout is really simple, but they often do provide links to more information without cluttering up the tumblr itself.

Chicago History website: ...the Link Bridge...officially opened on October 5, 1937...While the bridge eased congestion on Michigan Avenue, the roadway's sharp angles immediately proved to be a problem. A little before 3 a.m. on October 8, two different northbound drivers were the first of many who failed to negotiate the turns and suffered an accident. This hazard was not finally corrected until the completion of the current S-curve in 1986.

i love it when i find out about cool local bands. remember a couple of months ago when there was that blog post going around by the doorman at danny's, about how people should not be dicks when trying to get into danny's? turns out he's the singer of fake limbs, the local band i was praising on facebook last week - he also manages electrical audio.

not that we're really burning through the posts here these days but
for future reference
I am not proud to admit that in the past I have gotten behind the wheel in no condition to drive but I have never misjudged which side of the road I am supposed to be on, it just blows my mind how people do this
xp hahaha

I've turned onto up the wrong side of a divided 4-lane highway due to inadequate signage + fog. That was scary but funny. No alcohol involved since that was before I drank. It was late and there was no traffic, so I kept driving the wrong way until I came to a break in the median.

Me, too, although I tend to take a "there but for the grace of Gob go I" view of my survival. In retrospect, I could have once or twice been this person. I just got lucky. :(

So I was starting to get a little disappointed in the first issue of The Chicagoan, but the super huge oral history of Siskel & Ebert is making up for all the shortcomings.* Its a real joy to read and I'm learning quite a bit about them, more than I'd ever really cared about before.
* - The shortcomings are pretty big, imho, although I have high hopes for the future. It looks great and there are some great photos (partic the ones from those insane building climbers), but a lot of the interviews and pieces in the first half are super fluffy and lightweight (the Jeanne Gang one being a decent exception). I guess I hoped for a few more in-depth pieces. The biggest disappointment of all, though, was the Martin Prieb piece. I really enjoyed his book and had high hopes for something new from him, but it was really weird. First it started off with a weirdly racist tone that I never detected in his book, then it got weirder. He mentioned being so drawn to this case from forty years ago and how it paralled his own life, but he never really explained how or why. Instead he just spent a couple pages theorizing on what happened based on the reports and articles he read. Which is a fair approach, but the paragraphs he spent agonizing over what order the perp raped his victims was really uncomfortable and pretty wtf.

i just did something i have never done -- i commented on wbez's facebook posting. i couldn't help myself! they posted a list of "space jams" that is...pretty feeble in terms of space jams, so i suggested some more appropriately spaced out space jams. i figure if i can't keep my mouth shut, the least i can do is recommend something better instead of being pissy and negative (which i sort of was when i saw rhcp on their list of SPACE JAMS)
― two overweight dachshunds with three eyes (La Lechera), Thursday, 12 April 2012 15:07 (fourteen years ago)
i mean, i realize that they're on the radio and all, and that real spaced out space jams are super long, but honestly. this is the internet, you can post a link to a 17 min song just as easily as you can one that is 3 minutes.
here is the list, decide for yourselveshttp://www.wbez.org/blogs/bez/2012-04/music-thursdays-tony-sarabia-and-richard-steele-space-jams-98152

He's Wyatty in combining melody and weird out-there shit, has a new album out, which I haven't heard because I impulse ordered it after listening to the album that starts with that song ^^. Not to overhype, but you'll like it.

I completely hate the new direction of 848. S@r@bi@ is a shitty host and it seems like all the more in depth news stuff they used to do has been replaced with shitty music.
― Silky Slim (dan m), Thursday, 12 April 2012 15:47 (fourteen years ago)
ooh when!? would go!
also yes, dan m i TOTALLY agree with you -- it's suddenly like the red eye. they had an in-depth story the other day about standing in line to get into a restaurant. they used to talk about juveniles trapped in the criminal justice system and actual local issues. blech.

S@r@bi@? He's attractive, but his teeth are pretty fucked up.
As to the space jams, maybe this is super-duper obvious (and if so, I apologize), but I think the songs they posted were pop songs that were about outer space, rather than like trancey spaced-out mood music.
I thought about going to see that Colin Stetson show, too -- if you guys are going, then I definitely will.
