im happy when it departs because i dont know what exactly is going to happen and also tbh the books do peter out after 3 so if they're planning on fixing that, im onboard

I don't think Stannis and Melisandre were sleeping together in the books. In fact Stannis comes across as very non-sexual, he's married and has a daughter so he's obviously had sex with his wife at least once but probably only out of duty. It seemed out of character for him.

Nah, it is kind of implied that they're doing it, just very obliquely. Much like Renly and Loras.

Yes, but it is somewhat alluded to in the books. I forget who, but they commented on Stannis's disinterest in/impatience with his wife, and all the time he has for the younger, more beautiful Melisandre.

But then again he doesn't have a wife or family in this does he?

My reading was that Stannis was desperately keen on a son, not so much horny for that bod.

it is acknowledged or at least very strongly implied that Stannis and Melisandre got it on in the books at least on one occasion. i mean, i can't say anything without giving a kinda-not-really-spoiler-y detail, but it is right in there. i don't think anything is said about stannis looking to get a male heir thru her tho. certainly her intentions are different.

anyway, in terms of the big 'change', i think ppl are referring to the very end?

I believe on the Stannis et Melisandre question, that he dreams a sort of murky, magical, succubus-like encounter, and she takes that from him without his full consent. It IS mentioned often that she's taking the Stannis' wife's place at his side, but that's like a transfer of power & authority, not a sign of a sexual liaison.

Hm I don't remember that being specifically told to us by a reliable narrator? If another character says it, it's just as likely to be their unreliable PoV.

anyone watched ep2? more like game of porn

the brothel keyhole-blowjob --> wiping-off-the-corner-of-the-mouth --> deep kiss with new client scene was way over the top

even some of the dialogue like what that prisoner said to arya about putting a stick up her anus or whatev, it's a bit gleefully gross.

I guess I'm too desensitised to really find that ott. Genuine lolz at the chain of people spying on other people - as well as that subtext of the ways in which Littlefinger and others use spying/voyeurism etc.

Thinking back this was pretty strong thematically, but I didn't really appreciate that so much while watching it due to jumping from story to story.

the thing about the wiping of her mouth that made it gross to me was that it was like identifying her as "look, she even needs a man to wipe her mouth for her, she is literally nothing more than a tool for fucking"

most of the other fuck scenes in the episode at least involved a major character or had some plot purpose, I think that's one reason it seemed gratuitous

but that's the point, surely. that's the set-up for Littlefinger's little speech to Roz.

Didn't care for the sullen way the actress played Yara/Asha, who in my mind was much more boisterous.

Yeah now I've read all the books I really notice the reductions they had to pull to get the story to pull together on TV. There's going to be so much that just doesn't make it in.

That's the normal internet reaction, but if there's anything about us ilxors, we are abnormal.

I just don't want to spoil somebody's day with something like 'how the hell are they going to shoot X'.

Anyway, with regard to ep, the porn aspects didn't throw me at the time, but thinking about it now I can see they're really trying to shoehorn more and more of these in. But that's kind of an HBO house style thing at this point, isn't it? I kind of expect every scene to begin or end that way.

Tyrion/Slynt scene was most excellent as well. Dinklage was cracking me up.
