For your purposes I'd say use metcards, there's no refunds on buying a myki. Get a 10x 2 hour metcard or something.

Only in some in the west I think. I can still buy my 10x2 hr, 2hr, and dailies. They dont sell weekly or monthlys anymore anywhere tho.

dig it up review:
fleshtones: competent, boring. would have been improved by lots of reverb
lovetones: great. quite substantially better than the oasis-lite side of them i was previously familiar with
5678s: dreadful. barely competent surf/garage with no charm. can't believe i missed steve wynn to watch this bullshit
redd kross: if i overlook that they didn't play any of the songs i liked, they were very strong performers. even their new stuff didn't suck.
beaches: great sound, dull songs
died pretty: shithouse mix hid the vocals, peno needs to stand still for a bit and not do any pelvic thrusting again. underwhelming, but 'godbless' was fantastic.
royal headache: played sloppily, singer had repeated tantrums, kept stopping songs short, lame as all get-out
sonics: they were ok, awesome guitarist, spoiled by a terrible mix and revival act vibes. turn the guitar right up, put more reverb on everything, turn down the kick drum, would have been immediately a thousand times better.
hoodoos sounded like the hoodoos. pretty good. 'television addict' encore was fantastic.
