I don't really know why we do nominations either, other than to come up with a base of candidates.

it creates this funny thing where some people seem to think they're not 'allowed' to vote for something that isnt nominated

these pretzels are makeing me horney (Hungry4Ass), Thursday, 5 April 2012 21:11 (fourteen years ago)

I don't know if it's that people don't feel that they're 'allowed' to vote for something so much as I think it might be that people don't feel like wasting a vote on something that wasn't explicitly brought to the attention of the other people who are voting.

Noroi (2005) - aka Noroi: the Curse

excellent japanese documentary-style demonic possession flick. not perfect, but scary as hell

preternatural concepts concerning variances in sound and texture (contenderizer), Thursday, 5 April 2012 21:15 (fourteen years ago)

recent horror isn't getting enough love in these nominations

I generally feel like voting for recent films is kind of a folly in polls like this but there has been a huge rash of great horror films in the past few years

diamanda ram dass (Edward III), Thursday, 5 April 2012 21:18 (fourteen years ago)

I am going to watch Phase IV and then decide if it is awesome and should be nommed

it's this. voting for a movie that wasn't nominated is an empty gesture. it makes you feel virtuous, but accomplishes nothing. nomination process is helpful cuz it gives people a base of stuff to collectively think about and check out, and i imagine it makes the tabulation process at the end a hell of a lot easier.

preternatural concepts concerning variances in sound and texture (contenderizer), Thursday, 5 April 2012 21:19 (fourteen years ago)

I don't even know if it's necessarily true that recent horror is being overlooked, given that someone nominated Cabin In The Woods. Which...hasn't even been released yet.

1 of paper = 4 of coin (Deric W. Haircare), Thursday, 5 April 2012 21:20 (fourteen years ago)

well, i'd like to point out that the Voting thread is typically a great venue to try and stump for a movie, whether it was nominated or not. make a nice effort post with a video and or some pics, and some thoughts on why a movie is cool. you can make a difference!

should it be nommed? I guess it quals as sci-fi horror but kinda feel like if you open the door to 70s dystopian sci-fi a lot of stuff could flood in

i support all this larry coen films

1 of paper = 4 of coin (Deric W. Haircare), Thursday, 5 April 2012 22:21 (fourteen years ago)

Larry Coen may have more films nominated than James Whale or Tod Browning!

Frank Youngenstein (Phil D.), Thursday, 5 April 2012 22:23 (fourteen years ago)

That's because Larry Coen is an unimpeachable crafter of cinematic delight. Also because: Michael Moriarty.
