Has anybody seen Cannibal Holocaust? Is it as bad as it sounds or has it aged enough to be bearable?
― carl agatha, Thursday, 5 April 2012 20:43 (fourteen years ago)

Also, Mulholland Dr. is incorrectly spelled on the nominations list. It's not "Mulholland Drive".

Right, it's Mulholland Doctor

Which village of the damned is better, 1960 or 1995? I see that '95 is directed by carpenter. I have seen nothing else by wolf rilla.
― HE HATES THESE CANS (Austerity Ponies), Thursday, 5 April 2012 20:45 (fourteen years ago)
1960
― diamanda ram dass (Edward III), Thursday, 5 April 2012 20:46 (fourteen years ago)
i hate it, and it's every bit as bad as it sounds. lots of people seem to dig it though, so...

― humba (NZA), Thursday, 5 April 2012 20:46 (fourteen years ago)
xp, Cannibal Holocaust is almost worth seeing for the theme tune alone. The major problem (in common with most Italian cannibal films of the era) is the amount of animal torture. If you can find a cut version, it's not a terrible film.

Dracula: Prince of Darkness (1966)

the '63 sequel children of the damned also worthwhile iirc
― diamanda ram dass (Edward III), Thursday, 5 April 2012 20:47 (fourteen years ago)
I'll probably skip Cannibal Holocaust. I really want to have seen it, but I don't want to actually see it.
― carl agatha, Thursday, 5 April 2012 20:48 (fourteen years ago)
when i was a kid i loved all those stephen king movies but as an adult i've only really retained any love for carrie, the others just seem so tedious...oh but i guess i will also still watch misery if its on cable while i'm doing laundry or something
― humba (NZA), Thursday, 5 April 2012 20:48 (fourteen years ago)
Cannibal Holocaust: like writing a book.

I don't really know why we do nominations either, other than to come up with a base of candidates.

it creates this funny thing where some people seem to think they're not 'allowed' to vote for something that isnt nominated
― these pretzels are makeing me horney (Hungry4Ass), Thursday, 5 April 2012 21:11 (fourteen years ago)
I don't know if it's that people don't feel that they're 'allowed' to vote for something so much as I think it might be that people don't feel like wasting a vote on something that wasn't explicitly brought to the attention of the other people who are voting.

I generally feel like voting for recent films is kind of a folly in polls like this but there has been a huge rash of great horror films in the past few years
― diamanda ram dass (Edward III), Thursday, 5 April 2012 21:18 (fourteen years ago)
I am going to watch Phase IV and then decide if it is awesome and should be nommed

― HE HATES THESE CANS (Austerity Ponies), Thursday, 5 April 2012 21:19 (fourteen years ago)
it's this. voting for a movie that wasn't nominated is an empty gesture. it makes you feel virtuous, but accomplishes nothing. nomination process is helpful cuz it gives people a base of stuff to collectively think about and check out, and i imagine it makes the tabulation process at the end a hell of a lot easier.
