I think not voting for stuff because it isn't in the 'horror' section at Blockbuster is really missing a trick. Genre labels are often just a marketing tool, and most movies labeled as 'horror' are cinematic middle fingers created by people who hate horror films.

Which is my way of saying most of Lynch's stuff most definitely qualifies as horror, whether anyone involved in its creation or marketing would have necessarily gravitated towards that particular label.

Were those included just as examples of '70s TV horror, or were those meant as nominations?

Also, I'm trying (but it's obviously not a perfect system) to list titles alphabetically according to English version, and then putting original lang title in brackets afterwards.

In some cases, though, I'm not bothering (i.e. Haute Tension).

So, controversial idea. I'm toying with the idea of making people list 50 on their ballot or else risk losing their vote's clout. In other words, your last placing movie gets 1 point and you can work your way up to 50.

Thoughts?

that was how we did it for the comedy ballot. Why is that controversial? or am I completely misunderstanding you because I'm low on caffeine?

The way I want to do it is if your ballot only has 20 movies on it, your top-ranked movie only gets 20 points.

Well, it's kind of a hodge-podge after the first ~ 20, and it's not necessarily a bad idea, but it might make the latter half of my list a little more desultory than otherwise. @ Eric

I think that's better than the alternative, wherein people with only 20 or so favorites pack a bunch of garbage into the back end of their ballots in order to give their number one pick more heft.

I'd contest it more because I didn't particularly care for it than because it's not a straight-up horror film. But it does have some scary-ish stuff (inasmuch as it approaches the concept of genocidal aliens with a much more gravid brush than does Mars Attacks! or Independence Day), so I don't have a problem with it being in the running.
