xxp Best Movies w/Fat Guys in Wheelchairs
― Frank Youngenstein (Phil D.), Thursday, 5 April 2012 14:43 (fourteen years ago)
MPD Psycho isn't a film, it's a TV series! It's one of the greatest TV series ever, but still, it doesn't count for this poll.
Also, I thought The Eye was a bit rubbish.
― emil.y, Thursday, April 5, 2012 10:40 AM (2 minutes ago)
TV movie? Sure why not.

last house on dead end street
Awesome nom!
― hot and brothered (Eric H.), Thursday, 5 April 2012 14:43 (fourteen years ago)
TV movie = OKTV series = No
:( no Kolchak: The Night Stalker
Although it was a TV movie pilot first, right?
― Frank Youngenstein (Phil D.), Thursday, 5 April 2012 14:44 (fourteen years ago)
Rocky Horror Picture Show
― God, Music and Romeo and Juliet (DJP), Thursday, 5 April 2012 14:44 (fourteen years ago)
nominations threads are good just so it gives everyone a chance to talk about a bunch of movies before they vote, imho
― A Little Princess btw (s1ocki), Thursday, 5 April 2012 14:44 (fourteen years ago)
fair enough
xps
― diamanda ram dass (Edward III), Thursday, 5 April 2012 14:45 (fourteen years ago)
Edward III - there is a whole world of difference between a TV movie and a TV series. I shake my head at thee.
― emil.y, Thursday, 5 April 2012 14:45 (fourteen years ago)
eh kinda think of MPD as a miniseries so
warning: last house on dead end street will place high on my ballot
A miniseries is still a series! There is no way you can get around the fact that it just isn't a film.
― emil.y, Thursday, 5 April 2012 14:46 (fourteen years ago)
I'll keep it on the list if you're really going to vote for it, edward iii. But, yeah, it's not going to get much support.
― hot and brothered (Eric H.), Thursday, 5 April 2012 14:47 (fourteen years ago)
dude I've been wanting to see a bunch of these (God Told Me To, Blue Sunshine, Suspiria, Tetsuo: the Iron Man) forever
― Year of the RMDE (loves laboured breathing), Thursday, 5 April 2012 14:47 (fourteen years ago)
The Little Girl Who Lives Down The LanePumpkinhead
― Frank Youngenstein (Phil D.), Thursday, 5 April 2012 14:47 (fourteen years ago)
I kind of want it struck from the list because I don't want to see it languishing at the bottom like an unloved film, when it should instead be seen as a much-loved TV programme.
― emil.y, Thursday, 5 April 2012 14:48 (fourteen years ago)
liked Tetsuo: the Iron Man.
horror is way cleverer, has better cinematography, more plot, deeper characterisation
B+ trolling, but shitty tech qualities actually HELP many horror films... early Romero, Cronenberg before he moved to the adults' table, etc.
― Literal Facepalms (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 5 April 2012 14:48 (fourteen years ago)
Hmmm . . . maybe at some point we should poll "monster movies" separately from "horror movies."
― Frank Youngenstein (Phil D.), Thursday, 5 April 2012 14:48 (fourteen years ago)
Pan's Labyrinth?
― God, Music and Romeo and Juliet (DJP), Thursday, 5 April 2012 14:48 (fourteen years ago)
Morbs sort of makes a valid point, but I'd argue they're expertly deployed shitty tech qualities.
― hot and brothered (Eric H.), Thursday, 5 April 2012 14:50 (fourteen years ago)
A stupid choice but one that scarred me for life as a kid because it dealt with two of my worst fears: live burial and anthropophagy
Blood Beach (1980)
― Frank Youngenstein (Phil D.), Thursday, 5 April 2012 14:50 (fourteen years ago)
Really want to veto Pan's Labyrinth, ftr.
― hot and brothered (Eric H.), Thursday, 5 April 2012 14:51 (fourteen years ago)
Not trolling. And yeah, I used cinematography rather than 'technical qualities' because I think that's a strong point with a lot of horror (but by no means all - I guess I was suggesting that the pinnacle of horror cinematography is far far superior to the pinnacle of comedy cinematography). But I adore low rent lo-fi tech stuff just as much. Hence why in my next post I am going to nominate Herschell Gordon Lewis' The Wizard of Gore.
― emil.y, Thursday, 5 April 2012 14:51 (fourteen years ago)
man, the VHS cover to Blood Beach used to freak me out.
Another nomination:
The Wizard of Gore (1970)
Forbidden World (aka Mutant)
xp: I did say many of my nominations would be pushing it!
― God, Music and Romeo and Juliet (DJP), Thursday, 5 April 2012 14:51 (fourteen years ago)
Also I would take issue with the idea that the tech qualities on early Cronenberg are particularly shitty.
― Frank Youngenstein (Phil D.), Thursday, 5 April 2012 14:52 (fourteen years ago)
Massacre at Central High

Taking a break to not get fired, but I'll check this thread/update the doc on my lunch break.

I'm not sure how to add to the spreadsheet (at work right now), but I didn't see Robin Wood favourite It's Alive.
― clemenza, Thursday, 5 April 2012 14:57 (fourteen years ago)
you can't add to the spreadsheet, post here and eric will add them
tv movies opens a whole can of worms given the amount of viable 70s entries

Engaging in some DJP-steez genre-pushing:
Orson Welles's version of Kafka's The Trial

otm, carnival of souls will place v high on my ballot and it looks like it was made for $5
― diamanda ram dass (Edward III), Thursday, 5 April 2012 14:59 (fourteen years ago)
have no prob w/ MPD psycho being dropped from the list
Glad to see people repping for Tetsuo: The Iron Man
Not sure if people will allow Teshigahara's adaptation of Abe's Woman in the Dunes?
― etc, Thursday, 5 April 2012 15:04 (fourteen years ago)
I saw a "live" performance of Carnival of Souls where they had musicians, voice actors and a foley artist on stage below the projection, replacing all the sound. A vast improvement tbh!
― etc, Thursday, 5 April 2012 15:05 (fourteen years ago)
the lipsync was prolly better
I will even rep for tetsuo II: body hammer!
― diamanda ram dass (Edward III), Thursday, 5 April 2012 15:06 (fourteen years ago)
Hard to add to Edward III's list, but Moju/Blind Beast & Kurosawa's Throne of Blood probably qualify.
― etc, Thursday, 5 April 2012 15:08 (fourteen years ago)
― emil.y, Thursday, April 5, 2012 10:46 AM (21 minutes ago)
kind of a pedantic point imo, also that means no salem's lot unless you're gonna be like "I'm voting for the international theatrical cut!"
that said I don't really care all that much either way, I've already got more shit than my ballot can hold
― diamanda ram dass (Edward III), Thursday, 5 April 2012 15:11 (fourteen years ago)
I wasn't completely joking when I said elsewhere that It's Alive 3: Island of the Alive should be nominated. It's hugely entertaining.

New Zealand has a depressing history of wannabe filmmakers attempting to recreate the Peter Jackson origin story and failing miserably.
OTOH Aussie film has Wake in Fright, Picnic at Hanging Rock, Night of Fear, & Body Melt.
Does Bava's Planet of the Vampires count as horror, or is it too sci-fi?
― etc, Thursday, 5 April 2012 15:17 (fourteen years ago)
does Picnic at Hanging Rock count?

ahahaha DEVIL DOG
not voteworthy, but it scared the hell out of me and my brother one sunday afternoon. I could tell that it was a horrible movie, but still effective like most horror on TV during those still summer afternoons when the cicadas are shrill.
