it makes sense to me that a lot of young people nowadays wouldn't know from paul mccartney. at this point, paul's glory days are some 30-60 years distant. that's comparable to kids in the mid 60s drawing a blank on jolson

xp to Morbz a bunch of posts upthread: Most of this season I've spent thinking whether Pete is more of a Bud Frump or a J Pierpont Finch. I think he alternates between the two. Also, I wonder if he lives in New Rochelle.

in re megan i don't think the various parts we've been shown of her (NO NOT IN THAT SENSE GET YOUR MINDS OUT OF THE GUTTER) don't really add up to a very coherent whole. the fact that we very nearly ONLY see her in don's company is probably the culprit here; we have little sense of who she was before or what she is when she's with friends and not with don. so basically her construct seems like a creaky construct right now. that doesn't reflect on the actress as much as the writers.

i assumed henry and betty's house was in rye, ny as it was mentioned last season. re: pete, trudy had mentioned loving greenwich last season, but when he got on the train, greenwich was called as the next stop, iirc.

I finally got it -- the thing about the Megan/Don relationship is that she's in the part of her life where she's expecting a partner to adapt and grow with her. It may also be a little bit of a generational thing, since 26 was halfway to old maid territory a scant decade earlier. Don is fairly set in his personal ways -- all the apartment trappings and social bits he can deal with, but he doesn't like anyone else making decisions in his personal life.

Yeah Megan was totally faking agreeing that the conversation was boring - she works at an ad agency, it's been her ambition, she was interested but going along with the other dude's wife.

This week's mad style is so great because it really gets into how the costume designer uses clothes to tell the story.

yeah, she's expecting a full and enthusiastic partnership, someone to experience life with, and he's this armor-hulled immovable object who just wants the people around him to keep their shit together.

xxp, yeah, good run-down in mad style. hated betty's pink nylon housecoat, ridiculously ott, but good catch on the parallels between peggy and michael.

I would have never noticed how his ties matched her outfits.

yeah, me neither, nor did i notice how similarly his apt was lit to the early scenes of peggy's family (probably should have, but derp)

I think Megan may bend Don some. The scene where she was rushing him to fire island..I expected him to flip but he seemed to acknowledge she was right.

who said he's likeable? he's such a snake!

Pete the character is AWFUL in all ways, but the actor is really good at making him so desperately horrible, it's fantastic

and you can tell he could be a really good dude if he just unwound the crazy spring in his head

thought someone did upthread? i USED to like him. and i still probably like him better than harry who seems almost irredeemably schlubby

Harry is a funny dork, I feel a lot of sympathy for him – he's clearly talanted, but so graceless and socially inept that he just ends up tanking his own career.

in what way is Harry "talented"

The best idea Harry ever had was to con his bosses into creating a television department. Hasn't done anything since.

Harry is def. a bit good at the creative stuff, I think? Hasn't it been intimated that he's okay at that, but kinda crap at business?
