i always thought conspiratorially that the t-mobile girl was debuted parasitically with megan's emergence

i had the same feeling about another spokesperson & tv it-person but i can't remember who now

goole, Wednesday, 4 April 2012 17:47 (fourteen years ago)

it makes sense to me that a lot of young people nowadays wouldn't know from paul mccartney. at this point, paul's glory days are some 30-60 years distant. that's comparable to kids in the mid 60s drawing a blank on jolson

you misunderstood my post! that's exactly what i was saying!!!!!

xp to Morbz a bunch of posts upthread: Most of this season I've spent thinking whether Pete is more of a Bud Frump or a J Pierpont Finch. I think he alternates between the two. Also, I wonder if he lives in New Rochelle.

sarahell, Wednesday, 4 April 2012 17:49 (fourteen years ago)

in re megan i don't think the various parts we've been shown of her (NO NOT IN THAT SENSE GET YOUR MINDS OUT OF THE GUTTER) don't really add up to a very coherent whole. the fact that we very nearly ONLY see her in don's company is probably the culprit here; we have little sense of who she was before or what she is when she's with friends and not with don. so basically her construct seems like a creaky construct right now. that doesn't reflect on the actress as much as the writers.

which train line was pete taking?

i assume henry and betty live in greenwich or something.

yeah, she's basically set up as 1960s manic pixie dream girl - which is prob why she annoys me.

sarahell, Wednesday, 4 April 2012 17:53 (fourteen years ago)

We've seen Megan with Peggy without Don, right?

Brando Ambassador (Eazy), Wednesday, 4 April 2012 17:54 (fourteen years ago)

well, it was frustrating reading a whole post ripping apart my suggestion when in fact it was making the same point i had intended to make. ;-)

i assumed henry and betty's house was in rye, ny as it was mentioned last season. re: pete, trudy had mentioned loving greenwich last season, but when he got on the train, greenwich was called as the next stop, iirc.

pete moving to the suburbs is one of the saddest things to happen on this show. i loved his old new yorker-ness

mizzell, Wednesday, 4 April 2012 18:05 (fourteen years ago)

the New Rochelle thing is a line from a "How to Succeed" song - how Bobby Morse's love interest dreams of moving to the burbs

Bingo!

Emperor Cos Dashit (Adam Bruneau), Wednesday, 4 April 2012 18:18 (fourteen years ago)

Like, why are you advertising executives so cynical?

Emperor Cos Dashit (Adam Bruneau), Wednesday, 4 April 2012 18:19 (fourteen years ago)

anyway, the part where Betty calls Don about her cancer made me cry - because i could totally relate to the calling-your-ex-when-in-trouble thing.

sarahell, Wednesday, 4 April 2012 18:27 (fourteen years ago)

yeah I thought it was a really honest moment between them

Darewood and Mr Kravitz!

I finally got it -- the thing about the Megan/Don relationship is that she's in the part of her life where she's expecting a partner to adapt and grow with her. It may also be a little bit of a generational thing, since 26 was halfway to old maid territory a scant decade earlier. Don is fairly set in his personal ways -- all the apartment trappings and social bits he can deal with, but he doesn't like anyone else making decisions in his personal life.

mh, Wednesday, 4 April 2012 18:58 (fourteen years ago)

Yeah Megan was totally faking agreeing that the conversation was boring - she works at an ad agency, it's been her ambition, she was interested but going along with the other dude's wife.

Homosexual Satan Wasp (Matt DC), Wednesday, 4 April 2012 19:07 (fourteen years ago)

This week's mad style is so great because it really gets into how the costume designer uses clothes to tell the story.

yeah, she's expecting a full and enthusiastic partnership, someone to experience life with, and he's this armor-hulled immovable object who just wants the people around him to keep their shit together.

...and their noses out of his business.

preternatural concepts concerning variances in sound and texture (contenderizer), Wednesday, 4 April 2012 19:47 (fourteen years ago)

xxp, yeah, good run-down in mad style. hated betty's pink nylon housecoat, ridiculously ott, but good catch on the parallels between peggy and michael.

preternatural concepts concerning variances in sound and texture (contenderizer), Wednesday, 4 April 2012 19:56 (fourteen years ago)

I would have never noticed how his ties matched her outfits.

Respectfully, Tyrese Gibson (Nicole), Wednesday, 4 April 2012 20:00 (fourteen years ago)

yeah, me neither, nor did i notice how similarly his apt was lit to the early scenes of peggy's family (probably should have, but derp)

I think Megan may bend Don some. The scene where she was rushing him to fire island..I expected him to flip but he seemed to acknowledge she was right.

dan selzer, Wednesday, 4 April 2012 21:20 (fourteen years ago)

well don bent Megan in front of the fireplace so..

/sorry

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 4 April 2012 22:14 (fourteen years ago)

you keep talking about that, i seems

og (admrl), Wednesday, 4 April 2012 23:00 (fourteen years ago)

thx for the tip nicole!

balls, Wednesday, 4 April 2012 23:04 (fourteen years ago)

really wanted a fire island scene

not on board with this "pete is a likable character now" thing

y'tulip, y'pea-brained earwig (donna rouge), Thursday, 5 April 2012 16:38 (fourteen years ago)

who said he's likeable? he's such a snake!

fka snush (remy bean), Thursday, 5 April 2012 16:39 (fourteen years ago)

Pete the character is AWFUL in all ways, but the actor is really good at making him so desperately horrible, it's fantastic

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 5 April 2012 16:41 (fourteen years ago)

and you can tell he could be a really good dude if he just unwound the crazy spring in his head

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 5 April 2012 16:42 (fourteen years ago)

thought someone did upthread? i USED to like him. and i still probably like him better than harry who seems almost irredeemably schlubby

y'tulip, y'pea-brained earwig (donna rouge), Thursday, 5 April 2012 16:45 (fourteen years ago)

Harry is a funny dork, I feel a lot of sympathy for him – he's clearly talanted, but so graceless and socially inept that he just ends up tanking his own career.

fka snush (remy bean), Thursday, 5 April 2012 16:47 (fourteen years ago)

in what way is Harry "talented"

You big bully, why are you hitting that little bully? (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 5 April 2012 16:53 (fourteen years ago)

we never see him do anything or come up with any ideas

You big bully, why are you hitting that little bully? (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 5 April 2012 16:53 (fourteen years ago)

The best idea Harry ever had was to con his bosses into creating a television department. Hasn't done anything since.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 5 April 2012 16:57 (fourteen years ago)

Harry is def. a bit good at the creative stuff, I think? Hasn't it been intimated that he's okay at that, but kinda crap at business?

fka snush (remy bean), Thursday, 5 April 2012 16:59 (fourteen years ago)
