Yeah def thought Melisandre was ... subdued. I think what the show runners are thinking is if they make her too obviously EVIL upon meeting her you'd wonder why anyone around Stannis would support him, rather than fleeing or rushing her with knives.

yeah stannis was mentioned a bunch in season 1 but doesn't get properly introduced until now

he is actually one of the best characters imo

I was excited to see Carice van Houten was Melisandre. Must admit I crushed out majorly on her pagan witch-mayor in Black Death.

Someone I know could get access to all but the last 4 episodes but we all decided not to do it. Would rather have the weekly watchin' ritual.

one thing about having read the source material for this show is that i'm not so impatient for the next episode and can really bask in all the blood and titties come alive

They changed this up from the book (he spikes the wine, offers it to her first, she drinks, then he drinks), but it seemed like in this scene he's going for a murder-suicide thing (maybe killing someone is dishonor enough to make him unfit to be a maester).

ha in the book he offers it to her but she knows he's trying to poison her so she says she'll drink but he'll have to drink with her too. she gives him the glass and kinda smiles at him knowing that he's gonna die.
that whole scene is quite entertaining. i also like how we glimpsed the table thats actually a map of westeros though they could have let us have a better look at it.

I had no idea how far east Vaes Dothrak was until I saw the HBO map.

westeros table is rad, as was the octopus fireplace, feel like theyve stepped up the set design this season from what was already v awesome
