PUPPY!!!!!!!

A friend of mine has one. He has trouble breathing

yeah they are cute but i'm not sure how i feel about the ethics of owning such an over-bred dog, i've heard they have trouble giving birth too

then again i own a dachshund and 1 in 4 develop spine problems so i'm not one to talk

my inlaws had a mastiff (he died last year, sad sad sad) but he was about as big as that first photo and I swear a week later he was up to my knee. Those big doggies grow like freaking mushrooms!

I'm familiar with the health issues of French bulldogs (along with all other breeds I might consider - but really how many breeds are there that don't have some sort of significant health or other issue?), I'm just curious about what sort of time, money, and energy is needed in actually raising a dog.

time = not quite comparable to a child but getting there

money = so, so much money. like $1000/yr or more

energy = actually find dogs give you energy rather than the reverse

i guess the difference between my dog and a child is i can leave him at home unsupervised, but when i am with him it is like having a toddler around who has no hands.

the money thing might be on the high side, i tend to pay out the nose for medical expenses cause i'm a sucker (it's not good enough to remove weird bumps, i have to get them biopsied too) but then again i don't pay any kennel fees and some of my friends pay like $20/day because they don't want their little buddies sitting bored at home all day by themselves

see I'm not willing to get a dog til a) at least one of us can be at home with it and b) we have a big enough backyard for running and frollicking. which sounds more and more like a crazy utopian dream

if you get a little enough dog you don't need a big backyard, but yeah, leaving them at home by themselves is so ;_;

i guess at one extreme there are people who get like chemo and organ transplants and super-expensive doggy day care for their dogs and at the other extreme there's probably people who spend $0 on their dogs, just tie 'em up w/ a rope and feed them leftover human food

get one of these five pound beasts, they'll get like lost and disoriented in a 500 sq ft apartment

my ex wife has one, it's pretty damn cute and it only needs to walk like a block before it's tired out

I kinda like a big dog, myself. Tiny dogs don't do it for me. My MIL has a shihtzu and it'll stealth up next to me on the couch and start licking my hand like a little creep. She's cute and all, but just so spazzy and needy and weird. Like an adult baby.

yeah when i say dogs are like toddlers maybe it's because i have a little dog, any time he sees me sit down he automatically runs over to try to get on my lap

but that's what you want a dog for IMO

My MIL was such a total pushover when it came to training, I think was what happened to the shihtzu. The dog wouldn't eat out of a bowl as a puppy so now there's a kitchen towel with kibble on it on the floor for her, she won't eat if you standing nearby, she won't eat if it's this food, she won't eat if it's that food, it's just so ridiculous to me...in their old house, in addition to leaving food on the floor, they also used to leave a little pile of kibble for her on the couch, in case she wanted to eat. I felt like a crabby old farmer, RAGH JUST PUT THE FOOD IN A FARKIN BOWL SHE'LL EAT WHEN SHE GETS HUNGRY

The other night I dreamt B was flying and I was trailing him like a balloon. Then she crashed to the ground and I found he'd turned into a paperweight. I then tried to reanimate him by putting him in my bra because it was warm. WTF people, wtf?

Woah! Stay away from the pickles and ice cream before dinner! I want another puppy too because when Max dies I WILL LOSE IT. He's about 5 now so I have a while yet but it already makes me very sad every once in a while.

Yeah, I know. The dream got even weirder if you can imagine that. I often have completely surreal and bizarre dreams but that was pretty O_O.

I understand, I have some pretty amazing ones. Once, I committed suicide at the grocery store while sitting on watermelons. :D

puppy melted. In reality, I washed him and he immediately ran around in sand at the park so I need to re-wash his legs and definitely need to wash the rug. Heh.
