i never thought it was clear about Danny and Jane, but thought some people on here felt pretty certain.

Yeah, Jane is def Jewish (her maiden name is Siegel), but I think Jewish secretaries don't count in terms of the firm seeming "modern."

No way. Ginsburg has an ACCOUNT that he's working on, the other dude was basically a flunky. And I don't think the issue was that they had a jewish copywriter anyway, just that Mohawk would primary copywriter would be jewish.

can someone clarify to me the situation whereby pete would get away with being so blatantly rude to a senior partner (roger)? it doesn't really ring true to me that behaviour like that would fly, even if roger is largely incompetent. but, as i said, maybe i missed or forgot something.

I think Pete only joined SCDP when they spun off with the understanding that he was a lesser partner of some sort? They then continued treating him like he was less than the other partners, and this is him asserting himself since they agreed he'd come on board with that status due to the clients he brought.

(xpost) The whole agency knows that Pete's bringing in more business than Roger, so it's not in Roger's interest to force a power play against Pete that would make the rest of the partners choose sides.

I read it as Pete had agreed to hand the account over just to be nice, throw Roger bone after he's not done much of anything for years, so then the about-turn is publicly completely legit but yet embarrassing to Roger in a way he can't really act on.

writers seem to enjoy placing Betty opposite wiser, more confident, and more thoroughly emotionally restrained women (Sally's psychologist, Henry's mother). They address hard truths matter-of-factly in soft voices and she does her ice-queen-in-the-headlights routine.

I don't necessarily think that Henry's mother is being presented as wiser.

I think Henry's mother borders on a mother in law joke - she's controlling and cold, and Betty is never going to be good enough for her.
