Harmon suddenly realizes he's been kinda dumb

I'm glad, because the whole message of the show, repeated week after week, is that you can grow out of your own insecurities, and a sincere apology is always a good first step

though in Harmon's case it comes wrapped in juicy layers of celebratory self-deprecation

Possibly, but I just most clearly remembering him talking about it in the S2 commentary tracks. So it goes.

i thought he always said more that she's based on girls he knew or a type of girl he's an expert on?

funny britta is the closest to an easily-identifiable stereotype among the main characters

? they're pretty much all stereotypes

i guess so.... but britta and pierce seem to fit most easily into readymade types... the humorless political poseur and the cranky, hilariously inadept old guy....

the narcissistic superficial lawyer
the prissy over-achiever

troy is kinda the least stereotypical character

every person ever, real or fictional, is a "stereotype" if you reduce them to their most elemental demographic statistics or personal characteristics. plus it's just a horrible soul-killing way to talk about most things.

Yeah, I think the characters are much more complex than that. For example, compare Abed to Sheldon Cooper, who really is a stereotypical Aspie nerd (or at least was the last time I watched BBT): first, Abed is extremely athletic and doesn't seem to have trouble attracting women; also, he often displays a greater insight into other people's thoughts and feelings and relationships than other characters do. It's much more ambiguous whether he actually has Asperger's. And he is a film student at a community college: his 'aspie' obsession is with films and TV, not with science or technology. I can't offhand think of a stereotypical nerd character anywhere else with that sort of fixation. The hyper-imaginative childhood-regression aspects of his character don't really seem to fit the stereotype either (thinking of Sheldon or Steve Urkel etc).

Troy is Jordy in that he is the link connecting/translating Abed/Data to the human world of irrational feelings etc etc.
