just registered! I wonder what other real-world-practical (i.e. not social-networky-consolidatey) stuff I can do w/ this

I'm loving the Longform app--picks up long articles from all kinds of newspapers and magazines, really well curated, and they put all articles in a consistent, very readable layout.

"Today, we mostly use our fingers to interact with touchscreens"

really?

fine with 49 (sunny successor), Friday, 30 March 2012 20:02 (fourteen years ago)

I assume your prices are different, but here it's $8 to buy all the pens separately or $8.50 to buy the 'essential' pen pack with exactly the same pens

TURPS-DEFCON1.jpg (Autumn Almanac), Friday, 30 March 2012 20:19 (fourteen years ago)

$7.96 separately, $7.99 for essential pack.

EZ Snappin, Friday, 30 March 2012 20:26 (fourteen years ago)

That's still o___O

TURPS-DEFCON1.jpg (Autumn Almanac), Friday, 30 March 2012 20:28 (fourteen years ago)

so is it worth it or?

1 week to "Charles Dingus" (forksclovetofu), Friday, 30 March 2012 20:28 (fourteen years ago)

I dunno, make the pen pack a dollar cheaper or something

xp you get to try the pens before you buy them forks

TURPS-DEFCON1.jpg (Autumn Almanac), Friday, 30 March 2012 20:28 (fourteen years ago)

so apparently there is an almost fully featured latex client for the iPad??

and it actually compiles using the cloud (or yr home computer). that is NUTS

catbus otm (gbx), Sunday, 1 April 2012 15:28 (fourteen years ago)

btw has anyone used a Wacom pen or something like one for the iPad? not just for drawing but for general poking? worth it? or can you DIY something with conductive material and like a stick

catbus otm (gbx), Sunday, 1 April 2012 15:30 (fourteen years ago)

use a dead man's finger, great hack

A Little Princess btw (s1ocki), Sunday, 1 April 2012 15:32 (fourteen years ago)

forgot the door code for the anatomy lab :(

Same reason Johnny 5 never got a palm pilot, iirc

sktsh, Sunday, 1 April 2012 16:28 (fourteen years ago)

I've tried the Pogo stylus but I don't like that it's squishy and blunt.

that's what she said

A Little Princess btw (s1ocki), Sunday, 1 April 2012 16:38 (fourteen years ago)

lol You know, I thought about what I was saying and said it anyway.

Recently got PocketCloud (remote desktop) and it seems pretty great and was simple to set up. Also ArtStudio, which has quite a lot of features and was cheap.

i DIYed one with conductive foam and a charcoal stick holder, already had the latter lying around so total cost was 80p. You have to have a fairly fat end, about 5mm, or it doesn't register, so you can't get super precise. For drawing it's ok, definitely better than a finger but not as good as a pen. For general poking it's fine.

conductive phone: hardware store?

catbus otm (gbx), Sunday, 1 April 2012 19:07 (fourteen years ago)

hardware/electrical, yup. if you're lucky. you might be able to get a cheap electrical doohicky packaged in it if you can't find it on its own.

God arrives for the apocalypse, having been traveling at the speed of (ledge), Sunday, 1 April 2012 19:15 (fourteen years ago)

but at that point you might as well just get a pogo or whatever.

anyone using cinemagram?

༼◍ྀ ౪ ◍ི ༽ (cozen), Sunday, 1 April 2012 22:12 (fourteen years ago)

ya, i wish it were a bit better about all the instagram-ish features it sorta pretends to have

A Little Princess btw (s1ocki), Sunday, 1 April 2012 22:20 (fourteen years ago)

cinemagram lasted ~10 mins with me, nice idea

TURPS-DEFCON1.jpg (Autumn Almanac), Sunday, 1 April 2012 22:23 (fourteen years ago)

i got some conductive string on ebay super cheap with the idea of making my own ipad paint brush but it was kind of a pain in the ass. i have one of those wacom whatever things and never use it. i dont understand why they have to be so think. if the y sell paint brushes with conductive bristles surely there could be a thinner pen type deal right?

fine with 49 (sunny successor), Sunday, 1 April 2012 22:35 (fourteen years ago)

think = thick yo

fine with 49 (sunny successor), Sunday, 1 April 2012 22:35 (fourteen years ago)

cinemagram is way fun

coz Make A Gif

caek, Sunday, 1 April 2012 22:48 (fourteen years ago)

xp if the stylus is too thin it just won't register - the screen's really only looking for input from fat sausage fingers.

God arrives for the apocalypse, having been traveling at the speed of (ledge), Monday, 2 April 2012 09:07 (fourteen years ago)

Yeah sure that's what they say but what about brushes that work and why am I able to drag a thin piece of conductive string across the screen and get an (admittedly sketchy but it is a light string) line in pretty much any art/ note/ sketch app?

fine with 49 (sunny successor), Monday, 2 April 2012 09:29 (fourteen years ago)

i dunno! i tried cutting down the foam to less than 5mm and it just didn't work.

God arrives for the apocalypse, having been traveling at the speed of (ledge), Monday, 2 April 2012 09:31 (fourteen years ago)

Is the string knotted made into a firmer point than foam might be?

Would a Palm Pilot stylus work? There might be an old Palm Pilot lying around my office. I'll have to see if I can find one.

People aren't for comparing, they are for loving. (Je55e), Monday, 2 April 2012 14:39 (fourteen years ago)

Palm Pilot stylii don't conduct, so that won't work.

stet, Monday, 2 April 2012 15:49 (fourteen years ago)

you can get the string/wire in different strengths.

fine with 49 (sunny successor), Monday, 2 April 2012 17:36 (fourteen years ago)

has anyone tried one of these? http://www.studioneat.com/products/cosmonaut

markers, Monday, 2 April 2012 17:43 (fourteen years ago)

(i haven't)

markers, Monday, 2 April 2012 17:43 (fourteen years ago)

if youre going for off the shelf this 'flat' stylus seems at least a little more intuitive
