Has he turned good? Can't say I've noticed him being conspicuously terrible since the 6-1, in fairness.

Ismael Klata, Thursday, 29 March 2012 13:45 (fourteen years ago)

Think most Utd fans will tell you he's been one of our players of the season

Number None, Thursday, 29 March 2012 13:48 (fourteen years ago)

just thought of a wild card - Paddy McCourt

it's that time of the season folks...

Chris, Thursday, 29 March 2012 13:50 (fourteen years ago)

kinda lol, mostly sad

Thoughts? You must have loads. (a hoy hoy), Thursday, 29 March 2012 14:08 (fourteen years ago)

evans and koscielny have matured and become much less error-prone over the course of this season- the latter is very nearly the player he's been claimed as by sam since day 1 (he was p shite for most of the interim)

less of the same (darraghmac), Thursday, 29 March 2012 14:15 (fourteen years ago)

I thought I was the one who (over)rated Koscielny. Think he ought to start for France this summer tbh.

boxall, Thursday, 29 March 2012 14:46 (fourteen years ago)

yeah i dont remember being that crazy about us buying some no-name with 1 year in a top division in his mid twenties. i also don't think he's been much better lately, it is more to do w/ the opposition being shit. he is a middling-to-good player who could one day become a very good player.

Thoughts? You must have loads. (a hoy hoy), Thursday, 29 March 2012 15:02 (fourteen years ago)

Michael Cox has said that Koscielny is already better than Vermaelen, for whatever that's worth.

boxall, Thursday, 29 March 2012 15:05 (fourteen years ago)

i dont know who that is, for whatever that's worth.

Thoughts? You must have loads. (a hoy hoy), Thursday, 29 March 2012 15:38 (fourteen years ago)

He does http://www.zonalmarking.net/ and pieces/blogs for ESPN, the Guardian and some others, I think his match reviews are great. We've definitely talked about him before on some thread or another.

boxall, Thursday, 29 March 2012 15:40 (fourteen years ago)

i hear owen coyle's his biggest fan

Chris, Thursday, 29 March 2012 16:22 (fourteen years ago)

(of michael cox, not koscielny).

Chris, Thursday, 29 March 2012 16:23 (fourteen years ago)

oooh i like ZM, just never remembered his name i guess.

Thoughts? You must have loads. (a hoy hoy), Thursday, 29 March 2012 16:43 (fourteen years ago)

Cech set to extend his Chelsea career after Villas-Boas exit

Lots to read in there, presumably thanks to AVB gabbing, but the headline identifies the problem exactly, really.

Ismael Klata, Thursday, 29 March 2012 18:04 (fourteen years ago)

you guys give avb way, way too easy a time

yes abramovich kneecapped him by reneging on the full summer squad overhaul he was hired to oversee but that doesnt excuse avb's rank ineptitude in everything he did after that. if he knew he couldnt ship them out til next summer then why bother forcing them to play in a manner unsuited to them and make a tit out of himself ostracising the big dogs? either tactically inflexible, vain, stupid - or all three

let's not forget his "win it for jt" crassness either

r|t|c, Thursday, 29 March 2012 18:21 (fourteen years ago)

yeah but the Chelsea players are such twats though

Number None, Thursday, 29 March 2012 18:22 (fourteen years ago)

What they were to be utterly unimpressed with was Villas-Boas's man management. Drogba came to the new manager to ask if he would have a fair opportunity to start matches with, or ahead of, owner's favourite Torres, or be allowed to leave. The Ivorian was told that Villas-Boas considered him a fading force; one that he would sell if he could but wasn't yet allowed to.

Drogba walked out of the meeting bemused by the manager's bluntness, quickly passing the tactless message onto others about to suffer similar fates.

Frank Lampard the scorer of at least 10 Premier League goals in an unprecedented nine consecutive seasons suggested he could help the team by playing off the main striker. In front of his teammates, Villas-Boas accused the England international of only being interested in scoring goals, adding that Lampard was "not his type of player". Here again, was the lack of "emotional intelligence" those who knew Villas-Boas had worried about.

not the first grumbles i've heard about verm lately, has he really fallen off?

pretty shocked that he and koscielny are the same age

r|t|c, Thursday, 29 March 2012 18:33 (fourteen years ago)

I still think he's very good. The major criticism I've heard is that he's reckless, will creep forward looking to head off (or join) attacks but get caught out of position. He's been in and out of the side with injuries and variously paired with Kosc, Mertesacker and Djourou, factors that prob don't help.

boxall, Thursday, 29 March 2012 18:39 (fourteen years ago)

beckenbauer in his prime would get stuffed next to that lot so yeah prob not

r|t|c, Thursday, 29 March 2012 19:11 (fourteen years ago)

holy fuck is that article meant to be on drogba's or lampard's side?

less of the same (darraghmac), Thursday, 29 March 2012 20:51 (fourteen years ago)

"Every club gets breaks here and there, you get good ones and bad ones. It evens itself out over the season, that will never change."

What are you thinking, Ferguson? This should appear as a disclaimer on every interview he ever does from now on.

Ismael Klata, Thursday, 29 March 2012 21:08 (fourteen years ago)

In front of his teammates, Villas-Boas accused the England international of only being interested in scoring goals, adding that Lampard was "not his type of player".

Yeah, see, despite being one hundred percent true this is fucking terrible man-management.

red is hungry green is jawless (Noodle Vague), Thursday, 29 March 2012 21:18 (fourteen years ago)

It got Frank motivated enough to score that penalty that time

Ismael Klata, Thursday, 29 March 2012 21:38 (fourteen years ago)

i'd imagine that when you're trying to organise these heaving lumpen cunts into some semblance of discipline the perma-indulged biscuitlover trying to tell you where he should play in frot of the rest of the team would be irksome

less of the same (darraghmac), Thursday, 29 March 2012 21:46 (fourteen years ago)

yah he got a retirement fund payout and got to generally troll 'the senior players' & piss on their shitty little parade for 6 months, doubt hes too upset

boxall, Thursday, 29 March 2012 21:54 (fourteen years ago)

I can't know what's in his heart but I kinda doubt the 34 year old manager working 18 hour days and sleeping at the training ground is pleased with the first ever blemish on his CV because he got to 'troll' anyone.

boxall, Thursday, 29 March 2012 21:59 (fourteen years ago)

Reckon AVB wouldn't have behaved like that if Abramovich hadn't led him to believe he could get away with it, but yeah dumb all the same.

Abramovich will still ship half these cunts out in the summer. I'd be unimpressed by a load of my senior players putting a Champions League place at risk by basically deciding they couldn't be fucked because they didn't get along with the manager.

Homosexual Satan Wasp (Matt DC), Thursday, 29 March 2012 22:00 (fourteen years ago)

if he isnt a prissy idiot then he can get over it, maybe go share a few bottles of sassicaia w/ ancelotti and he'll explain

who tf wants to pay ebrjt and smart and fat frank lampards wages? or how do you ship out players w/ nowhere for them to go?

You're acting like clubs like Anzhi and Man City don't exist.

Reckon Terry will stay whatever happens, the others I'm not sure about.

Homosexual Satan Wasp (Matt DC), Friday, 30 March 2012 08:49 (fourteen years ago)

"whatever" not including any potential outcome of his trial, surely?

red is hungry green is jawless (Noodle Vague), Friday, 30 March 2012 09:25 (fourteen years ago)

I've just been assuming he'll get off that one.

well yeah but

lamps is still out of contract this season isnt he? still can't see jt letting him get the tin that easily unless it's to a mutually agreed cushy number in america

jimmy quinn needs his mick gooding

r|t|c, Friday, 30 March 2012 10:45 (fourteen years ago)

The Mirror is claiming Anzhi are going to give Chelsea £45m for Torres. I know you're super rich lads but you could probably get that price down a bit

Number None, Friday, 30 March 2012 10:58 (fourteen years ago)

That's like my initial attempts at haggling when I went to North Africa. You don't feel good afterwards.

Ismael Klata, Friday, 30 March 2012 11:08 (fourteen years ago)

i try not to brag on ilx about my few definite and irl applicable skills, but five years of dealing with irish landlords has my haggling skills razor-sharp, i often have to remind myself to go easy on the softer ones

Anyway, torres, assuming his wages had to be maintained post-move, is a 15m right winger.
