i am expected to work 9-5 on saturday and 9-9 (12 hrs) on monday!

deej, Thursday, 29 November 2007 22:30 (eighteen years ago)

Thanks, J-man.

What is Block 37, anyway? I run across that term every so often, mostly having to do with CTA construction. What does it mean?

jaymc, Thursday, 29 November 2007 22:35 (eighteen years ago)

Wait, I just found a website called "Google" that can find me the answer to that question.

jaymc, Thursday, 29 November 2007 22:40 (eighteen years ago)

Bin 36
Block 37

dan m, Thursday, 29 November 2007 22:43 (eighteen years ago)

one of these things is not like the other, etc

dan m, Thursday, 29 November 2007 22:43 (eighteen years ago)

I still can't find out why it is called "Block 37."

jaymc, Thursday, 29 November 2007 22:53 (eighteen years ago)

Even though I now know that it's that construction zone across from Marshall Field's.

jaymc, Thursday, 29 November 2007 22:53 (eighteen years ago)

Wikipedia says it is one of the original 58 blocks of the city. So I'm guessing they refer to neighboring ones as 36, 38, and so on? No idea which way they're organized.

dan m, Thursday, 29 November 2007 22:58 (eighteen years ago)

A-ha

jaymc, Thursday, 29 November 2007 23:02 (eighteen years ago)

My building is in Block 3.

jaymc, Thursday, 29 November 2007 23:03 (eighteen years ago)

OK that's really cool. I love that site.

dan m, Thursday, 29 November 2007 23:07 (eighteen years ago)

There's a book called "here's the deal" that is all about block 37.

Eazy, Thursday, 29 November 2007 23:11 (eighteen years ago)

Counting down...

Here's 31

jaymc, Thursday, 29 November 2007 23:28 (eighteen years ago)

Huh. I didn't know why it was called Block 37.

There is going to be a ton of retail, glass-front TV studio, condos, and hyperdupermega CTA station.

Jesse, Friday, 30 November 2007 00:01 (eighteen years ago)
Morrissey wants to know why you're on your own tonight given that you are:
1. So funny.
2. So clever.
3. So very entertaining.
4. So very good looking.
jaymc, Friday, 30 November 2007 04:02 (eighteen years ago)

Oh btw, that Obama fundraiser we're playing next weekend? Headliners are Jeff Tweedy, Jill ("I Kissed a Girl") Sobule, and an acoustic set from ... Third Eye Blind. (It's now at the Riv, too.)

jaymc, Friday, 30 November 2007 13:35 (eighteen years ago)

OK, I screwed up the count--29 was actually 30, so we're missing 29.

Jesse, Friday, 30 November 2007 13:38 (eighteen years ago)

that is crazy, john. what night is that?

n/a, Friday, 30 November 2007 13:41 (eighteen years ago)

It's the 7th. Actually, I don't know if I should've mentioned it here. They were kind of strict about how it should be publicized. Like: our website is OK, but MySpace is not.

jaymc, Friday, 30 November 2007 14:07 (eighteen years ago)

Why do you think that is? Congrats, BTW!!

KitCat, Friday, 30 November 2007 14:19 (eighteen years ago)

Seriously, I fucking hate my boss. Everyone in this office takes short trips for personal stuff - dropping cars off at mechanics, picking up kids, dentists appts, whatever. I asked if I could run to the DMV first thing this morning, right when they open to avoid long lines, but he said no. So I'm fucked. Old sticker expires at midnight and I can't get a new one. So fucked. I hate this shithole.

jon /via/ chi 2.0, Friday, 30 November 2007 14:51 (eighteen years ago)

Looking forward to tweed/nast/sobule/obama jamming "all along the watchtower" at the end. How much are tix? also, check out the lineup for the second city's letters to santa next tuesday (small theater).

Eazy, Friday, 30 November 2007 14:56 (eighteen years ago)

e/z - going to try and remember to come to yr uncommon ground gig next sun.

n/a, Friday, 30 November 2007 14:57 (eighteen years ago)

Tell them what you just told us, jon. the first part, anyway. Xpost - great, it should be a good show (w sax on a song or two).

Eazy, Friday, 30 November 2007 15:01 (eighteen years ago)

I plan on it, but it doesn't really do me any good now. I'm supposed to go see my grandma in the nursing home this weekend, but theres no fucking way I can risk getting a ticket for an expired sticker. Fuck.

jon /via/ chi 2.0, Friday, 30 November 2007 15:04 (eighteen years ago)

Your mistake: you asked. Should've just gone and come in a little late.

dan m, Friday, 30 November 2007 15:06 (eighteen years ago)

ok, i think i'm going to have to change my commute in the mornings until jersey boys closes because if i have to walk by the lasalle theatre and hear "I LOVE YOU BAAAAAY-BEEEE...." first thing in the morning for much longer i'm going to shoot myself in the face.

chicago kevin, Friday, 30 November 2007 15:08 (eighteen years ago)

How much are tix?

Between $35 and $500.

jaymc, Friday, 30 November 2007 15:09 (eighteen years ago)

Unfortunately I was here at 7. I hoped coming in a fucking hour early might help entitle me to run out for 20 minutes.

Jesse, Friday, 30 November 2007 15:18 (eighteen years ago)

Anybody know how much a ticket is for an expired registration sticker?

jon /via/ chi 2.0, Friday, 30 November 2007 15:20 (eighteen years ago)

you can buy them at all the check-cashing stores ... you can't just run out on your lunch break? I don't know how much the fine is, but i know the stickers are more expensive past the expiration date.

n/a, Friday, 30 November 2007 15:22 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah, $98 after the date. I can try to run out on my lunchbreak, but the nearest check cashing place is like 25 minutes away. Stupid rich suburb. Its just so frustrating because the DMV is, quite literally, right across the street from our office.

jon /via/ chi 2.0, Friday, 30 November 2007 15:24 (eighteen years ago)

I have received such a ticket in NC, and I would say that it was around....$75 + court costs? (I received it along w/ 5 other citations on bs trumped up shit by cops in a small town known for its shady cops. Cop told me he didn't have room on one ticket for all 6 charges, but I was "really lucky" he didn't just decide to write each citation on a separate ticket b/c each ticket would cost me $95 in court fees, and he was tempted to write each one separately to teach me a lesson.)
