i read the wikipedia entry and that might have been enough for me, it's not really a fun story

I've been following the comedy poll results thread for some weird reason and it's making me feel like I am an alien who developed a sense of humor on a planet with a completely different set of neurophysics than we have here.

tell me about it. there are some awful awful people on that thread.

Also a lot of movies that aren't funny (and I don't mean Network).

i voted in it and thought it would be fun but there are just so many wrong opinions and aggro people on there. i should just put my top 5 or 10 here and then stop reading it. but i probably won't.

That's what I meant. Really I've only noticed one person dragging down the conversation - as usual - the rest are fairly good natured with the occasional overstated outrage or whatever.

I'll be honest. I felt p aggro about some of the choices (and a couple of ppl endlessly defending terrible movies that have no defense beyond "I saw it when I was a kid and have happy nostalgia feelings for it") BUT I'm not posting I that thread bc I get no joy out of pooping on other ppl's opinions. To their faces anyway.

Also the mean posts are a bummer.

However, there are quite a few old films on the list so far that I am excited to see.

Yeah! You're looking well. I love the beard in person. Also, I'm sorry you had to see my "COMMUTING FUCK YOU OUT OF MY WAY COMMUTING" face.

Fela! was enjoyable. I will say that I'm not sure how well it worked as a piece of theatre. The conceit is that Fela is directly addressing the audience as though we were at his club in Lagos, Nigeria -- complete with expected call-and-response and dancing/singing along -- but the venue doesn't quite work for that. (Maybe this was taken into greater consideration on Broadway?) The narrative of his life also becomes a series of anecdotes without much dramatic force. But the music was obviously awesome, and there's some creative staging and set design, too.

Thanks for the update. It sounds worth seeing just to hear the music in a setting like that.

So the owner of R's company bought everyone lottery tickets last week and someone who works there won $10k. That person is now bringing in a tattoo artist on Friday and everyone who works there can have a free tattoo. Very strange.
