I also think it was the set-up to a visual gag, namely that self-centered Jeff and Britta's fake drunk wedding takes center stage, while Andre and Shirley are literally out of focus, way off on the background, talking.

Yes, thinking-of-himself Andre, who earlier that day hired singers and dancers to do a big marriage proposal in a very public place.
― Emperor Cos Dashit (Adam Bruneau), Thursday, 22 March 2012 14:26 (fourteen years ago)
I loved that he had the singers on retainer, they were cracking me up
I saw the clip of the proposal as a teaser and somehow it gets funnier every time I see or think about it

tv trope 101 is that HE does it to get a huge amount of attention to something HE is doing for someone else.

I think this about any person who organizes a big public proposal. It's gross.

Tonight's episode was brilliant. Started out slightly meh, but soon went galactic.

yeah, definitely. that chang closing bit was great

Wow, this show and I might be on the outs.
I'm a little intrigued: normally, there is plenty of discussion after a Community ep so I might not be the only one who feels this way.
― EveningStar (Sund4r), Saturday, 24 March 2012 03:28 (fourteen years ago)
i dunno about that second half.
― j., Saturday, 24 March 2012 03:34 (fourteen years ago)
That was just self-parody: not about a community college study group, not about advancing the characters' relationships, not about anything except the show's own tropes. The characters were just weak caricatures of themselves.

I think the only time I laughed was at "both versions of Michael Jackson".
― EveningStar (Sund4r), Saturday, 24 March 2012 03:37 (fourteen years ago)
Hm, OK, maybe some Troy/Abed stuff is important. Still, felt off somehow.
that chang closing bit was great
no it wasn't

What an awful, awful show that god is punishing us with.
― General Scheherazod (Deric W. Haircare), Saturday, 24 March 2012 03:43 (fourteen years ago)
Guys Chang was pretty awful this episode, but I liked the rest of it! The bit with Troy and Abed in the bedroom was kinda sweet and touching! lolled hard at the meta evil twin thing
― stan this sick bunt (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Saturday, 24 March 2012 03:47 (fourteen years ago)
i kind of just don't like chang, in general
― althea and (donna rouge), Saturday, 24 March 2012 04:05 (fourteen years ago)
Oh, man. Did you not get the memo? Yeah, we hate this thing we loved a couple months back. We're only still watching because we hate ourselves too much to watch stuff we actually like. NBD.
― General Scheherazod (Deric W. Haircare), Saturday, 24 March 2012 04:06 (fourteen years ago)
also this ep mostly sucked. i liked dean's reaction to jeff in aviators
― althea and (donna rouge), Saturday, 24 March 2012 04:06 (fourteen years ago)
Chang was the worst part but I also thought the whole premise of Abed being addicted to renting celebrity impersonators was dumb and self-parodic (as I may have alluded to) and completely unengaging. Same with the way the Jeff plot was handled: the way his narcissism was dealt with in e.g. the pottery class episode worked so much better. This was so heavy-handed.

Thats not meta thats a Star Trek riff. And didn't they already do an evil twin episode? Or am i thinking Futurama or something?
― Emperor Cos Dashit (Adam Bruneau), Saturday, 24 March 2012 04:28 (fourteen years ago)
its a Star Trek riff AND a meta reference. yr mind = blown.

think my fav part of this episode (which wasn't great, though I liked the Abed/Troy rift) was the Dean crawling on the floor.
