think THFC can get 4th, but not 3rd.

the pinefox, Thursday, 22 March 2012 14:00 (fourteen years ago)

The match will be played on 19 May 2012 at the Allianz Arena in Munich, Germany,[1] home of Bayern Munich and 1860 Munich,[2] although the stadium will be referred to as "Fußball-Arena München" for the match as UEFA does not recognise sponsorship by companies that are not among its partner organisations.

Spurs and Arsenal both have pretty good run-ins, with Spurs having the slightly easier road. But Arsenal have won 6 in a row, in the kind of form Spurs were in back in the first half of the season.

mizzell, Thursday, 22 March 2012 14:08 (fourteen years ago)

Think those first 3 games for Spurs are quite hard tbh. If they finish the season like they did last time then they'll come 5th imo

pandemic, Thursday, 22 March 2012 14:21 (fourteen years ago)

At home to Man City and Chelsea and away at Stoke are the only games for Arsenal that look iffy. Think Spurs are good for 15-18pts out of that lot. Arsenal 18-21pts. The bigger concern for Spurs obviously Chelsea so a draw on Sunday might suit them okay.

pandemic, Thursday, 22 March 2012 14:25 (fourteen years ago)

i think, if i were the type to ever analyse my own footballing psychotic episodes, that i would find in me a disbelief that current arsenal will hold a streak this hot for much longer. If they do, i will re-evaluate my opinion of their current bunch. I also think that a run of tough fixtures has affected our form disproportionately, but obviously if the knockon effect is to go into a tailspin then it's not v important that the first 4/5 bad results are justified.

less of the same (darraghmac), Thursday, 22 March 2012 14:31 (fourteen years ago)

run of tough fixtures plus niggling uncertainty about manager's long-term commitment to the cause?

red is hungry green is jawless (Noodle Vague), Thursday, 22 March 2012 14:37 (fourteen years ago)

really can't see the harry for england thing being that big of a deal. lack of squad rotation has probably had some effects on players performance, plus resulted in the sending out of pienaar and corluka who could have helped. i guess pienaar isn't an out and out winger but more so than anyone else we have behind lennon and bale.

mizzell, Thursday, 22 March 2012 14:55 (fourteen years ago)

lack of a credible '1' apart from adebayor isn't helping, arry's unwillingness to rest players despite a great squad hasn't helped, all of this ahead of the england thing tbh

less of the same (darraghmac), Thursday, 22 March 2012 15:10 (fourteen years ago)

Huntelaar has a 'release' clause of 20m Euros apparently. If LFC could offload Carroll for roughly the same (hollow laugh) I'd be happy to take Huntelaar instead.

pandemic, Thursday, 22 March 2012 15:36 (fourteen years ago)

Whether he'd want to give up probable Champs Lge football in favour of a few years of Europa Lge is another matter entirely.

mizzell, Thursday, 22 March 2012 15:40 (fourteen years ago)

Actually there are 'only' 2 players at LFC that I'm really unhappy that we signed - Adam and Carroll. After 3/4 of a season I'm okay with Henderson and Downing.

pandemic, Thursday, 22 March 2012 15:52 (fourteen years ago)

harsh on carroll, or soft on the two lads tbph.

Spurs should be snapping hands off for huntelaar

less of the same (darraghmac), Thursday, 22 March 2012 15:56 (fourteen years ago)

i'd actually chance a cheeky bid for caroll at the 10m range

less of the same (darraghmac), Thursday, 22 March 2012 15:57 (fourteen years ago)

cheeky

henderson & downing are quite good, not-quite top four players

adam & carroll are so bad

ha true

Just a bid, then

less of the same (darraghmac), Thursday, 22 March 2012 16:00 (fourteen years ago)

spurs cld get maybe

remy?

The term “hipster racism” from Carmen Van Kerckhove at Racialicious (nakhchivan), Thursday, 22 March 2012 16:02 (fourteen years ago)

carroll was great against everton, i'm still hopeful. adam's a decent option i suppose - pundits in talking shite shocker, but gary gillespie's "better than xabi alonso" a few months back was an absolute gem. still not watched last night yet, will flick through later. their goals were just really sloppy - skrtel and enrique at fault for a couple. can't be too hard on them, they've been great all season. seemed to be the same old problem of not putting enough chances away and not controlling the game to see it out.

Chris, Thursday, 22 March 2012 16:03 (fourteen years ago)

great
decent

BETTER THAN ALONSO! Charlie Adam? My brain is explod...

pandemic, Thursday, 22 March 2012 16:07 (fourteen years ago)

adam is shite tbh

Chris, Thursday, 22 March 2012 16:07 (fourteen years ago)

i will stan for carroll even as they lower him into the roiling mersey, his thumb held aloft as the last thing to vanish into the murky waters, as the distant drums kick in and tears roll down the face of the local john connor

less of the same (darraghmac), Thursday, 22 March 2012 16:10 (fourteen years ago)

Whether the Reds have ever properly replaced the 30-year-old remains up for debate between the club's loyal fans, but Gillespie insists Scottish international Adam is the man who could go on to bigger and better things on Merseyside following his summer arrival.

"Adam's performances all season have been excellent. He's a midfield player that makes things happen. He hurts teams, and he hurts defences with his passing,"

how true.....

The term “hipster racism” from Carmen Van Kerckhove at Racialicious (nakhchivan), Thursday, 22 March 2012 16:10 (fourteen years ago)

As I recall it we spent last summer being very wary of the recruitment policy, especially Adam. It'd've been nice to have been proved wrong.

Ismael Klata, Thursday, 22 March 2012 16:11 (fourteen years ago)

Byw Chris did you see any of the next gen games? Andre Wisdom looked good in a ball playing CB who is ropey defensively David Luiz kinda way. Adorjan looked useful as well.

pandemic, Thursday, 22 March 2012 16:13 (fourteen years ago)

btw when i was pondering the impact of the England job i was thinking as much of anything about on 'Arry 'imself - maybe mentally he just hasn't been there to the same extent since Capello "resigned".

red is hungry green is jawless (Noodle Vague), Thursday, 22 March 2012 16:27 (fourteen years ago)

he hasn't, but you've to extract that from hearts and courts and everyfink else, s'no wonder ee can't pick a balanced team raaht naaah

less of the same (darraghmac), Thursday, 22 March 2012 16:29 (fourteen years ago)

huntelaar would be foolish to leave schalke now, imo. after getting jerked around by milan and madrid, he should be enjoying being the big fish and schalke look pretty safe to be in the CL next year.

mizzell, Thursday, 22 March 2012 16:30 (fourteen years ago)

xposts. i did yeah, he's usually an absolute beast of a defender, very solid. just had a few bad games in the nextgen, as did quite a few others tbh - hell of learning curve that tournament, great experience for them. i expect he'll be going out on loan next season, definitely one to keep an eye on. adorjan's a lovely player. went off the boil in the middle of the season but he's really picked up of late.

sterling's the one though. he's been travelling with the 1st team squad, warming up pre-match. don't think he's done a single interview, not even on the club's tv channel. being protected as much as possible - they know he's special. wouldn't be surprised to see him come off the bench before the end of the season.

Chris, Thursday, 22 March 2012 16:54 (fourteen years ago)

Yeah, only seen Sterling twice tbh. V direct, v talented.

pandemic, Thursday, 22 March 2012 17:01 (fourteen years ago)

i've seen him, looked uninspired tbph but hey one performance tbf

less of the same (darraghmac), Thursday, 22 March 2012 17:11 (fourteen years ago)

IK; i was wary but i still expected us to build on last season - that's been the most disappointing thing. we stumbled on a solid platform of lucas and spearing, and we went and ignored it. our midfield hasn't sat right with me all season. i said it months ago, we're far too reliant on lucas doing everyone's defensive duties. the priority should have been to strengthen the holding area, upgrade on spearing, and stock up on all-rounders who can do the basics and play the right way. apparently comolli wanted cabaye, but kd insisted on adam. henderson would be preferable in there, his problem's confidence not ability, but we're insisting on him starting wide and coming inside in this lopsided 442. argh, i dunno. last night didn't surprise me at all. no idea what to expect going into next season now.

top 2 stories on bbc football atm:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/17473359
"Manchester United's Rio Ferdinand has had a dig at Manchester City fans by suggesting they are only more visible now the club is tasting success."

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/17464950
"Manchester United great Bryan Robson says Sir Alex Ferguson's zero-tolerance approach to unruly players has given his club the edge over Manchester City in the Premier League title race."

ferguson should try not speaking to them for another decade, seems to have worked pretty well.

Fergie has also attacked Tevez for 5 months holiday in Argentina and called it 'desperate' in response to Vieira on Scholes
