my cable package comes w/ some closed circuit University of Maryland programming, ever since i discovered the video brochure they air every day at 7pm i haven't felt the need to watch "Community" anymore

i suppose, but my point is more that production, to a great extent, _is_ rap. it's one thing to say you don't care, another to say it doesn't matter.

Why would people in the same class graduate before other people in that class?
Standing in the same room/hallway is not the same thing as being in the same graduating class. I assume some people at Greendale are just taking classes for the hell of it (Leonard, Pierce). Others have a goal in mind: ostensibly Jeff, Annie, um ...
Speaking of weird continuity sort of hiccups: wasn't there an ep early on where Jeff is sleeping in his car because he can't afford his rent anymore? Why was Jeff poor for just that one episode?
― Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 21 March 2012 14:53 (fourteen years ago)
just fyi, not remembering what happened != continuity hiccup. that episode was about jeff moving out of his car (he briefly moves into the dorms and finally gets his shit together and gets an apartment iirc).
― Mordy, Wednesday, 21 March 2012 15:02 (fourteen years ago)
omg this thread is going to kill my appreciation for this show more than anything else anywhere ever. you guys are turning out worse than a/v club commenters at this point.

I remember pretty well. I remember him not being able to afford an apartment and then being able to afford an apartment. Maybe he lives around the corner from Dildopolis?
― Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 21 March 2012 15:06 (fourteen years ago)
xpost Oh, come on. I love this show. It's one of my favorite shows of all time. Seriously.
― Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 21 March 2012 15:07 (fourteen years ago)
Come to think of it, where/how people are living has been a pretty constant subplot. Chang, Jeff, Annie, Troy and Abed. We don't know where Britta lives, do we? And I'm surprised we haven't seen Pierce Manor, let alone got to see Pierce and Troy living together.
― Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 21 March 2012 15:08 (fourteen years ago)
the problem is with the analyzing to death itt, not that you enjoy it. i love it too, but jfc you guys, slow down.
― stan this sick bunt (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Wednesday, 21 March 2012 15:09 (fourteen years ago)
We don't know where Britta lives, do we?
She defensively and proudly retorted to her and Jeff's teenage tormentors that she lives in a studio apartment in season one's "The Art of Discourse."

To be honest, I'm more concerned with what the characters are eating. Do we know for sure that they're getting three squares a day? Abed is looking awfully skinny, and I know I haven't seen him eat much protein in recent eps.

Jeff couldn't afford payments on his condo mortgage, I thought? The resolution was for him to let it go and rent a (much cheaper) apartment instead.

― thuggish ruggish Brahms (DJP), Wednesday, 21 March 2012 16:08 (fourteen years ago)
I think it's really a failing of the series that we haven't met Jeff's landlord yet. We don't even know if he's wacky or gruff or anything. This show is the worst.
― Sam Handwiches (Deric W. Haircare), Wednesday, 21 March 2012 16:12 (fourteen years ago)
Yeah, they could be sitting on another Mr. Furley!
― nickn, Wednesday, 21 March 2012 16:17 (fourteen years ago)
I think Harmon said that they realised that Pierce and Troy living together just wouldn't be that funny so quietly let it sit in the background.
― Homosexual Satan Wasp (Matt DC), Wednesday, 21 March 2012 16:22 (fourteen years ago)
wasn't there a brief clip of them living together, though, in the first ep of s1 or s2?

Guys, I just realized...we are behaving exactly like the cast of NBC's hit comedy Community right now.

why is that highly educated looking young fellow sucking all the fun out of a glass of water, shouldn't he be sucking all the fun out of a discussion of an american television sitcom or something?
― j., Wednesday, 21 March 2012 17:20 (fourteen years ago)
It shows the fun being sucked into ILX; highly inaccurate
― kinder, Wednesday, 21 March 2012 17:35 (fourteen years ago)
I am fine reading people's negative reactions to this show but reading long dissertations in which cynical viewers try to pinpoint the exact reasons why community isn't always above average is soooo penile
― monkeys on the ceiling fan, ceiling fan (CaptainLorax), Wednesday, 21 March 2012 17:49 (fourteen years ago)
... You realize your criticism boils down to "'Community' is a television show", right
it... wasn't a criticism

― Spleen of Hearts (kingfish), Wednesday, 21 March 2012 18:45 (fourteen years ago)
Anyone else notice that the show is called "Community" because it's set at a community college ... but that the title also refers to our beloved cohort? Huh?
― Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 21 March 2012 19:18 (fourteen years ago)
Penile is my new catch phrase. I'm trying to expand it's context to just about everything and everyone

hmmm...so we have reassuring visual evidence that everyone is indeed living indoors, but that shot of britta sleeping at the end doesn't look like any studio apartment I'VE ever seen! someone tweet dan harmon and browbeat him for sloppiness

They lived together mostly between S1 and S2, and it was chronicled, during the non-broadcast months, by Harmon on @oldwhiteguysays

On the whole, this show seems remarkably thorough and consistent. I'm usually very annoyed by holes or logical gaps.
― EveningStar (Sund4r), Thursday, 22 March 2012 00:00 (fourteen years ago)
consistent
(in its logic, not always in quality)
― EveningStar (Sund4r), Thursday, 22 March 2012 00:01 (fourteen years ago)
Can we Google-proof this thread? Because I feel that, if he were to stumble upon it accidentally, Dan Harmon would probably just stop making things for people altogether.
― Sam Handwiches (Deric W. Haircare), Thursday, 22 March 2012 00:11 (fourteen years ago)
you think this is the only place on the internet that is overthinking this show?
― internet somebody (some dude), Thursday, 22 March 2012 00:42 (fourteen years ago)
Absolutely. The rest of the internet is renowned for its levelheaded appreciation for things that are better than most other things. And also for its sense of equality and social justice.

I hope they do get Bill Murray, as it will complete both the relationships and the metarelationships in the show
― Spleen of Hearts (kingfish), Thursday, 22 March 2012 02:58 (fourteen years ago)
Watched last week's ep just to bump up the number on Hulu. Jim Rash really does kill every line he has. I agree with something TVDW wrote, that the only false/off note in the ep was Andre suddenly switching up his attitude at the rehearsal.
Drunk Britta is awesome.
― Spleen of Hearts (kingfish), Thursday, 22 March 2012 04:44 (fourteen years ago)
Actually my favourite bit of the episode was Andre going "don't try your sexy voice with me" and the rest of the study group suddenly going "OH!".
