I voted this morning, but I kind of fucked it up. I don't recall ever having voted for judges beyond the Y/N retention question, so when I did my research, I only bothered noting the judges that were not qualified/recommended. I didn't realize I was expected to pick only one. So in a couple of cases I voted for a "qualified" candidate over a "highly qualified" candidate. Ah well.

I did vote for Jesse's dude, though.

The thing about "qualified" "highly qualified" is that the bar associations that issue those opinions are basing them partly on whether that candidate will be good for their ideology. So if the KKK Bar Association calls a candidate "not qualified" and the Puerto Rican Bar Association says "highly qualified," you probably want to go w/ the Boriquas' opinion.

I feel weird stumping for him but I know TONS more about him as a lawyer and as a person than I do about any other candidate for anything I've ever known, so I guess I should feel pretty OK about supporting him.

I also voted for D0r0thy Br0wn's opponent for Clerk of Courtney b/c Cook Co. Circus Courtney is a fucking mess and I figure that Nun02 might at least do some good for a year or two before he becomes worthless.

Almost done with grading midterms, one more meeting, it's 80 degrees, I jogged past some blooming dogwood trees today and it was glorious. That's about it.

I walked the dog past some blooming trees (dunno if it was dogwood) and thought "wtf smells like crotch?" Took me a second to remember about the crotchy smelling trees that bloom every year.

Like, I'm probably taking this way too seriously (but come on - WATER! It is a big deal! Lake Michigan is a big lake! We might have to form a Chicago Militia to protect the lake from marauding outlanders!) but it's hard to believe a candidate for water reclamation commissioner who says she is all about the water, but also ran for and lost like four other elected positions in Chicago in the last five years or so. CLEARLY you just want to hold some kind of an elected office, whatever the hell it may be.

Debra Shore seems to actually care about it, and Kari Steele worked as a water chemist, so they seem like good picks. But I really enjoy not voting for Daleys and the rest of them are just clout hounds. Hmph.

No way man, my schnoz is in tip top shape. I am an excellent smeller, and my nose is large enough to be considered an authority on the matter of scent.

I figure amongst the regulars on the thread there's bound to be some worthwhile opinions on this:

I've written a bunch of web articles for the group of soccer lovers I've fallen in with and I'm wondering how I should preserve a few of the best of them as writing samples or portfolio items. The formatting's not that important, I'm just wondering how to strike a balance of 'officialness' while making them easily stored and shared. Screenshots? Text (html) files? Both?

Upload to Google docs and email them to yourself. That's what I do with all docs I want to preserve. I usually also store them on my laptop or thumb drive at work.

If it were me and I was really feeling paranoid I'd save them in rtf and PDF.

And HTML if appropriate since theyre web articles.

The collection of work I was really proud of from college - as well as personal stuff and high school fiction - was all lost in a terrible external hard drive crash. Since then I've been beyond diligent in managing my documents. Work habits helped, too.

Yeah this is partially driven by weirdness with my older mac laptop and the imminent shift of the group's web site from a CMS clusterfuck to a sleeker Wordpress. There are over 600 articles on the old site and any I don't save are gonna get deleted.

How you save them depends on what you want to showcase. If it's web design and writing together, save them as HTML and take some screen shots so you can have those for reference if any images break. If you just want to show the writing, I'd just save them as text files. I would definitely not just do screenshots because then you lose edibility/flexibility.

If you want to save all of them, beg whoever is running the website to export them because 600 articles is a lot.
