I realize it’s a silly skit, but this is our culture. The comedy shows and the White House are on the same page.

Last week, in that “Religious Liberty: Obamacare’s First Casualty” video the Heritage Foundation put together, Representative Marsha Blackburn said, “The American people have been awakened to what this administration is doing. It will be a fight. And I believe it will be a worthy fight.”

I pray that’s true. But have they gotten the wake-up call? Has a majority? Or are we laughing as our country changes under our watch?

Culture is important but fewer and fewer people care about the direction we are going. I see no hint of a restoration of virtue. We will crash and burn.

A lot of progressives like to pretend that conservatives don't have a sense of humor (despite Steyn, Lileks, Long, O'Rourke, Goldberg, etc. just for a few examples

The truth? The Obama administration all along has been captive to the cult of man-made global warming as expressed by Al Gore, and saw high fossil-fuel prices as a good thing in reducing their use and thus “cooling” the planet, while make subsidized wind, solar, and hybrid power competitive. Worse still, the Obama technocrats naively thought that changing habits, rather than recessionary times, had temporarily lowered demand and thus prices, and were completely caught off guard when a recovering global economy, expanding Chinese and Indian appetites, and unrest in the Middle East all sent oil futures skyrocketing. Had we opened up federal lands for drilling three years ago and encouraged the private sector to drill at breakneck speed as a matter both of national security and national financial solvency, we might well have had at least the expectation of 1–2 extra million barrels coming on line that would have dampened speculation.

I only just now caught that K-Lo column about the SNL skit, linked above. I think it is just wonderful that she saw fit to quote the entire skit, and that she seems so confident that her two, brief, not-very-insightful dismissals of it were more than enough to offset the impact of the skit she quotes!

This is like a person showing how harmless a knife is by grabbing the blade instead of the handle and lecturing you how a little blood never hurt anyone.
