I get the feeling that the vast amounts of money at Anzhi are going to blow up the ridiculousness pay scale. They seem like a club that will make Roberto Soldado the first million pound p/w player or something.

it's time for downing to shine in russia

Rosie 47 (ken c), Wednesday, 14 March 2012 10:29 (fourteen years ago)

so Ferguson has supposedly been watching Hazard then. Of course it'll probably turn out he was actually there to see some Obertan type.

Number None, Wednesday, 14 March 2012 10:33 (fourteen years ago)

I can totally see Anzhi being Adebayor's next club

Survey on EPL managers - a bit rubbish but there are one or two interesting things in there. Bit harsh on Pardew, Bergkamp and De Gea; not harsh enough on Terry. I didn't realise Kompany was held in quite so much esteem.

Which Premier League manager has impressed you the most this season?
1 Brendan Rodgers 47%, 2 Paul Lambert 40%, 3 Roberto Mancini 6%, 4 Steve Kean 6%

Who has been the signing of the season so far in the Premier League?
1 Demba Ba 56%, 2 Phil Jones 13%, 3 Scott Parker 13%, 4 Sebastian Larsson 6%, 5 Juan Mata 6%, 6 Craig Bellamy 6%

Which current Premier League players do you rate as the best in each position?

Goalkeeper
1 Joe Hart 69%, 2 Pepe Reina 13%, 3 Brad Friedel 6%, 4 Shay Given 6%, 5 Tim Krul 6%

Defender
1 Vincent Kompany 88%, 2 John Terry 6%, 3 Thomas Vermaelen 6%

Midfielder
1 David Silva 31%, 2 Yaya Touré 25%, 3 Leon Britton 13%, 4 Scott Parker 6%, 5 Gareth Bale 6%, 6 Moussa Dembélé 6%, 7 Ramires 6%, 8 Luka Modric 6%

Forward/striker
1 Robin van Persie 25%, 2 Sergio Agüero 19%, 3 Demba Ba 19%, 4 Luis Suárez 13%, 5 Wayne Rooney 13%, 6 David Silva 6%, 7 Gareth Bale 6%

Who has been the best young player in the Premier League this season?
1 Phil Jones 31%, 2 Daniel Sturridge 25%, 3 Kyle Walker 25%, 4 Oriel Romeu 6%, 5 Scott Sinclair 6%, 6 Chris Smalling 6%

Who will win the Premier League?
1 Manchester City 67%, 2 Manchester United 33%

Which player do you think has been most influential in the Premier Leagues's 20 years?
1 Ryan Giggs 50%, 2 Eric Cantona 13%, 3 Paul Scholes 13%, 4 Alan Shearer 13%, 5 Thierry Henry 6%, 6 Cristiano Ronaldo 6%

Other than your own ground, which stadium/fans create the best atmosphere?
1 Liverpool (Anfield) 50%, 2 Stoke City (Britannia Stadium), 3 Newcastle United (St James' Park) 4 Everton (Goodison Park) 7%, 5 Tottenham Hotspur (White Hart Lane) 7%

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 14 March 2012 10:49 (fourteen years ago)

Which player do you think has been most influential in the Premier Leagues's 20 years?

And this means... what?

Upt0eleven, Wednesday, 14 March 2012 10:55 (fourteen years ago)

it means "how can we shoehorn a question that ryan giggs would be the answer to?

Rosie 47 (ken c), Wednesday, 14 March 2012 10:58 (fourteen years ago)

Giggs has played the most games for the most successful team in PL history. It's simple maths really.

Number None, Wednesday, 14 March 2012 11:00 (fourteen years ago)

imo it's a bit of an indictment of Giggs that he scores less than 100%. It's the sort of leading question where they might as well pre-print his name on the reply form.

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 14 March 2012 11:01 (fourteen years ago)

Oriel Romeu 6%

huh?

Number None, Wednesday, 14 March 2012 11:03 (fourteen years ago)

who is the most influential player in the premiership who has allegedly cheated on his wife with a former miss wales and then took out a superinjunction about it?

Rosie 47 (ken c), Wednesday, 14 March 2012 11:05 (fourteen years ago)

Alberto Aquilani. Almost no-one saw him play, but everyone who did went on to form a Premiership club.

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 14 March 2012 11:05 (fourteen years ago)

giggs was shit for a lot of those years, tbf & h

Zola robbed there as well as bergkamp

Streep? That's where I'm a-striking! (darraghmac), Wednesday, 14 March 2012 11:05 (fourteen years ago)

who, in the opinion, is the best player in the premiership who has a very hairy chest that was once displayed during a goal celebration after skinning 5 arsenal players?

Rosie 47 (ken c), Wednesday, 14 March 2012 11:06 (fourteen years ago)

Taking it as a serious question for a moment: what is Giggs' influence? I can think of Beckham, Cantona, Ronaldo, Bergkamp or Makelele as having changed facets of the game; Keane, Rooney or Shearer as having influenced titles. I can't think how the game would be significantly different today for the want of Giggs. Maybe because he was the post-Gazza wunderkind.

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 14 March 2012 11:13 (fourteen years ago)

this was a very good game

He did the first footy celeb-vehicle TV show that I can remember, so maybe props for that. But it was terrible. And Bryan Robson had already guested in Jossy's Giants.

Hart, Reina, de Gea are three standout keepers imo. I'd have Reina. He makes fewest mistakes, apart from anything else.

Sir Dave Richards, the Premier League chairman, has accused Fifa and Uefa of stealing football from the English, while at a sports and security conference in Qatar. He also stated that organisers of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar must tackle the availability of alcohol, saying: "If you don't do something about it you're starting to bury your head in the sand a bit."

Richards, who is also a Football Association board member, also criticised the process for the 2018 and 2022 World Cup bids, saying that Fifa should have made clear that they favoured taking the tournament to new parts of the world.

With the Fifa vice-president Prince Ali bin al-Hussein of Jordan and the International Cricket Council's chief executive, Haroon Lorgat, looking on in Doha, Richards repeatedly reminded his audience that the world had England to thank for football.

"England gave the world football. It gave the best legacy anyone could give. We gave them the game," Richards said. "For 50 years, we owned the game … We were the governance of the game. We wrote the rules, designed the pitches and everything else.

"Then, 50 years later, some guy came along and said: 'You're liars,' and they actually stole it. It was called Fifa. Fifty years later, another gang came along called Uefa and stole a bit more."

Hussein then reminded Richards that there was still a debate over whether the Chinese or the English invented the game, but Richards leapt to the defence of his country.

"It started in Sheffield 150 years ago," Richards said, his voice rising. "We started the game and wrote the rules and took it the world. The Chinese may say they own it but the British own it and we gave it to the rest of the world."
