Keen eye, IK! Hearrenfean is the Frisian spelling of Heerenveen. In the province of Friesland (where I am), they spell it Hearrenfean. Every home game of Heerenveen starts with the Frisian anthem too, the only Dutch club to have a 'national' anthem at the start of every game.

Marco van Basten, Heerenveen's manager as of next season, is already studying the lyrics to that anthem, I am sure.

HGe couldn't hide it tbh, the pundits were having a laugh with him, because whenever they mentioned Arsenal and his future signing for the club, his mouth went into a twee and dreamy "ffs yes I am signing for Arsenal stop giving me a hard time". He was a guest at Arsenal-Milan, he admitted his manager is working on the deal, he spoke with Wenger etc etc etc.

He's a centre half yes, the best in the Dutch league, by far. Scores 7 to 10 goals in the Dutch league every season, captain of Ajax. Played with Vermaelen for some seasons, his Belgian buddy. Great signing for Arsenal if you ask me. But it's a done deal. I'll eat my shoe if he doesn't sign for Arsenal.

Also this is great news. We are actually trying (with real success) to do what the fans have been asking for - improve the squad and do it before clubs w/ bigger money ruin it for us.

I hear you, but even Wenger won't be able to fuck this up, trust me. Vertonghen is gawking over Arsenal (and last night he was cornered and admitted for everyone to see what everyone kind of already knew) and he will be Arsenal's best signing of this summer, I am sure. Best signing because he is exactly what Arsenal lacks right now: stability in defense, but with agility and attacking style of play to adapt to the Premiership with relative ease. Wenger will continue to bring in failures like Gervinho, but there's no denying he's been more on the ball with signing defenders.

The leading Dutch pundits jokingly asked Vertonghen last night if he was up for fighting for a place with Koscielny. Vertonghen answered, laughing, that swapping places, sending Koscielny to Ajax and him taking K's place, was the best deal for all involved. Just to illustrate that Arsenal are about to sign him and that Vertonghen is up for it.
