I haven't FP'ed anyone posts since the switch from SBs, but I half decided that if I did, I would post here why I did it.

garbage corn fan (Je55e), Thursday, 8 March 2012 19:14 (fourteen years ago)

i really think this idea of everyone getting their own flags is crucial

lag∞n, Thursday, 8 March 2012 19:16 (fourteen years ago)

Je55e, I admire your openness. I'll follow your lead (although I haven't FPd anyone yet either).

beachville, Thursday, 8 March 2012 19:21 (fourteen years ago)

Mods aren't arbitrarily deciding some posts are valid and others not... There are obviously some posts that're just made in error i.e. flagged innocuous posts by non controversial posters on innocuous threads who haven't been involved in a throw down or dispute or CF thread and I was pointing these out as not really contributing to the number of "true" FPs in any way

a serious minestrone rockist (remy bean), Thursday, 8 March 2012 19:25 (fourteen years ago)

just flagged this post^^^

Mr. Que, Thursday, 8 March 2012 19:29 (fourteen years ago)

remy if we're given the right to gang up and remove a poster, we should be able to do that to any poster, not just ones the mod cabal have deemed as "controversial"

⚓ (gr8080), Thursday, 8 March 2012 19:36 (fourteen years ago)

yeah p sure my flag posts could be read a innocuous or accidental or w/e but theyre not

lag∞n, Thursday, 8 March 2012 19:36 (fourteen years ago)

i mean im not under the delusion that certain users will be removed but i would like my complaints to be filed under 'serious stuff'

lag∞n, Thursday, 8 March 2012 19:37 (fourteen years ago)

^^flag

Mr. Que, Thursday, 8 March 2012 19:38 (fourteen years ago)

that was an accident by mr que mods fyi

lag∞n, Thursday, 8 March 2012 19:39 (fourteen years ago)

I mentioned upthread but it seems to have been lost: I would like to know if I have been flagged at all.

beachville, Thursday, 8 March 2012 19:50 (fourteen years ago)

i think what remy is saying is that these are flags that prob wont really add up/matter in the long run. none of them are getting removed.

Thu'um gang (jjjusten), Thursday, 8 March 2012 19:51 (fourteen years ago)

yeah but i want acknowledgment, and a lil flag

lag∞n, Thursday, 8 March 2012 19:52 (fourteen years ago)

yeah it would be cool to see a wineybomb have like 13 little waving flags lined up next to it

⚓ (gr8080), Thursday, 8 March 2012 19:53 (fourteen years ago)

yes they r animated gifs of course

lag∞n, Thursday, 8 March 2012 20:10 (fourteen years ago)

Wild Flag Post

Mr. Que, Thursday, 8 March 2012 20:12 (fourteen years ago)

feel like public flags turns the system from a way to direct the mods' attention to troublesome posts/posters into like a reified system of public opprobrium. would really just increase the potential for jokeyness.

Nicholas Pokémon (silby), Friday, 9 March 2012 00:36 (fourteen years ago)

you've won me over, let's do it

Θ ̨Θƪ (sic), Friday, 9 March 2012 00:43 (fourteen years ago)

I haven't FP'ed anyone posts since the switch from SBs, but I half decided that if I did, I would post here why I did it.

fyi there is a thread for this: who have you sb'd recently?

Lamp, Friday, 9 March 2012 05:28 (fourteen years ago)

I have to say that personally I'm just sort of sad that I never really got to get rolling with the SB system before it was gone, because I'm the kind of weird, narrow-topic nerd ILXor that never gets into the like 4,000-post clusterfuck threads and is sort of left feeling left out and confused when y'all start reminiscing about all the great times that (name) ruined ILX and you all SBed him and I'm like, man...I wish I'd been a part of that.

I think I probably SBed Geir once and that might be it. But it seems like the new system is really missing the angle of "I want it registered, not necessarily to any specific human who has to go through and look at these stupid things, that such-and-such poster is being a really tedious pain in the ass whose one-sided, attention-seeking trolling is derailing good conversation and just kind of crashing the party of a thread that was really groovy until they showed up." Like, you don't want the site to become this echo chamber of always-agreeing sameness, sure, but that's never going to happen, and in the meantime it'd be nice for the small, delicate threads to be able to do their thing without the Morbses of the world coming in and sucking up all the air.

iow, sb'ing FP

Doctor Casino, Friday, 9 March 2012 06:19 (fourteen years ago)

I FP'd once and regretted it. I'd take it back if I could. A couple posts, too. Could mods set up a "regret post" option

an elk hunt (Ówen P.), Friday, 9 March 2012 07:05 (fourteen years ago)

Never mind it seems already to be working

an elk hunt (Ówen P.), Friday, 9 March 2012 07:06 (fourteen years ago)

What precisely is the scenario where someone would be racking up the SBs but not providing any posts worth FPing? I mean, other than "the name of this scenario is ILX".

Andrew Farrell, Friday, 9 March 2012 09:17 (fourteen years ago)

I believe the procedure is to go off to the riverbank, cut down a reed, yell your grievances into it, and let the river carry away around the bend.

Andrew Farrell, Friday, 9 March 2012 09:19 (fourteen years ago)

Under SB, you did not necessarily have to click SB on an offending post. As I understand it, part of the whole FP thing is closer mod scrutiny for aspects of actual offensiveness, whereas people definitely got sb'd in the past just for being annoying.

beachville, Friday, 9 March 2012 10:37 (fourteen years ago)

Right, but how is this a bad thing?

Andrew Farrell, Friday, 9 March 2012 10:53 (fourteen years ago)

It isn't. People shouldn't be banned "just for being annoying". FP should, ideally, make sure that people are banned only for an actual reason.

Tuomas, Friday, 9 March 2012 11:47 (fourteen years ago)

being annoying is an actual reason. you may not like the actual reason. but.

Nultified Ancients of Man U (Noodle Vague), Friday, 9 March 2012 11:54 (fourteen years ago)

It isn't an actual reason, because there's no one definition of "annoying" in the first place.

Tuomas, Friday, 9 March 2012 12:00 (fourteen years ago)

it's when you have a crush on somebody and don't want to say it, iirc

a serious minestrone rockist (remy bean), Friday, 9 March 2012 12:09 (fourteen years ago)

hey... I uh...flagged your post... *grins sheepishly, toes the ground*

oh great, now RHCP's 'Suck My Kiss' is playing in my mind with the lyrics "your mouse was made to flag my post"...

'banderpants' sound like something the Jabberwocky would wear.

Dr C, love you the most to say the least

Literal Facepalms (Dr Morbius), Friday, 9 March 2012 15:11 (fourteen years ago)

annoy verb (annoyed, annoying) 1 to anger or distress. 2 to harass or pester.

See, even the dictionary can't settle on just one definition.

Tuomas, Friday, 9 March 2012 15:34 (fourteen years ago)

is there no word for annoying in Finnish?

Nultified Ancients of Man U (Noodle Vague), Friday, 9 March 2012 15:36 (fourteen years ago)

"speedo"
