the other night i was up at 4 a.m trying to get evie back asleep and i had a flash memory of a bunch of us in john's old apartment, using a karaoke website and bellowing "possum kingdom"

congratulations (n/a), Thursday, 8 March 2012 17:09 (fourteen years ago)

Ha. I remember that. Not "Possum Kingdom" specifically but that night.

Cuba Pudding, Jr. (jaymc), Thursday, 8 March 2012 17:11 (fourteen years ago)

Never forget Possum Kingdom.

carl agatha, Thursday, 8 March 2012 17:41 (fourteen years ago)

Hey, how was Aida?

"marvellously inoffensive" (Eazy), Thursday, 8 March 2012 19:05 (fourteen years ago)

Amazing. Hui He is an incredible soprano, maybe the best I've seen. I don't think I've ever reacted as strongly and emotionally to a performance as I did to hers. Visually, it was spectacular. I mean, Aida is written to be a spectacle but it's one thing to say that and another thing to be in the room with it. Verdi is my homeboy anyway, and Aida is totally a greatest hit, but dang, seeing it really hammers home that sometimes things are favorites because they are just that good.

carl agatha, Thursday, 8 March 2012 19:30 (fourteen years ago)

Nice nice nice.

"marvellously inoffensive" (Eazy), Thursday, 8 March 2012 19:32 (fourteen years ago)

so this is kind of inspiring/uplifting and involves a member of the fire supporter group I've become part of, nice guy and a good story

dan m, Thursday, 8 March 2012 19:47 (fourteen years ago)

Whoa. Donating bone marrow is no joke. High five, soccer fan!

It's interesting that you have a waiting period to find out whether the treatment was successful.

They turned Lizzie Borden's house into a B&B. I'm going to stay there some day. http://www.lizzie-borden.com/

ooh! neat.

Laura Lucy Lynn (La Lechera), Friday, 9 March 2012 19:02 (fourteen years ago)

why does stuff like this bother me so much?

"Being Flynn" is based on author-poet Nick Flynn's searing memoir, with a largely unprintable title. (http://www.chicagotribune.com/entertainment/movies/sc-mov-0306-being-flynn-20120309-24,0,6827022.story)

there is literally one unprintable word in the book's title ("another bullshit night in suck city"

congratulations (n/a), Friday, 9 March 2012 19:26 (fourteen years ago)

unprintable!
unfathomable!

Laura Lucy Lynn (La Lechera), Friday, 9 March 2012 19:27 (fourteen years ago)

If you want to be really pedantic about it, the entire title is printable; the Tribune just chooses not to.

Cuba Pudding, Jr. (jaymc), Friday, 9 March 2012 19:27 (fourteen years ago)

Daylight savings time starts this Sunday. Glad I don't live in one of those states that doesn't observe it. I wish it was DST all year long.

Dear Dan,

NP

Sincerely,

Jesse Je55e J3ss3 Martha

Michigan Ave. is a MADHOUSE. Besides the pedestrian-choked sidewalks, there were a bunch of ambulances and a minivan w/ loudspeakers on the outside that kept making the rounds blaring what was presumably apocalyptic messages in what was presumably Korean, based on the writing on the outside in English and Korean.

It sounded like Blade Runner out there.

The people in the coach house behind our next door neighbor's house have a giant confederate flag hanging n the window. :(

carl agatha, Sunday, 11 March 2012 00:28 (fourteen years ago)

Ugh. You don't see too many of those around here!

free societies must let drunken gay Texans have sex (Je55e), Sunday, 11 March 2012 00:33 (fourteen years ago)

Courtney and I saw Silent House and it was tense and scary and quite a bit better than expected. And it was interesting but I don't want to say more b/c spoilers. Jenny, I think you will like it.

And it stars Elizabeth Olsen, which is nice. I like looking at her.

free societies must let drunken gay Texans have sex (Je55e), Sunday, 11 March 2012 00:35 (fourteen years ago)

I want to see it!

Check out these bent items: (arby's), Sunday, 11 March 2012 06:22 (fourteen years ago)

That's the Chicago way.

dan m, Sunday, 11 March 2012 13:19 (fourteen years ago)

So in the light of day, the confederate flag revealed itself to have a wolf on it. Jeff thought it might be a Chicago Wolves banner but I just completed some surveillance/research and it is, in fact, a flag version of this:

carl agatha, Sunday, 11 March 2012 21:54 (fourteen years ago)

PS for more confederate flag images, enjoy this website: http://crackervilleusa.piczo.com/dixieflags?cr=2&linkvar=000044

carl agatha, Sunday, 11 March 2012 21:54 (fourteen years ago)

You can buy one of your own for $4.99!

Sorry! I'm a little obsessed with this hideous item and the fact that it is publicly displayed in the window of one of my neighbors!

carl agatha, Sunday, 11 March 2012 22:00 (fourteen years ago)

That's the wolf of Northern aggression shredding states' rights.

We're watching Homicide and over the last two episodes, they have peripheral suspects named Lane Staley and Chris Novaselic.

Know what's not neat? Finding out that these RSVPs often disappear so quickly that no one who reads the article/blog post/whatever could possibly have a chance of actually going to the event. I was looking forward to it and I had no chance ;_;

Laura Lucy Lynn (La Lechera), Monday, 12 March 2012 14:15 (fourteen years ago)

t0dd sw1ss tweeted that he was at the show and it was totally totally packed, i guess it was higher-demand than i would have thought

congratulations (n/a), Monday, 12 March 2012 15:33 (fourteen years ago)

I figured that getting in would require advance notice, so I added lampo on fb so I can join the elite squad that actually gets into events like this.

Laura Lucy Lynn (La Lechera), Monday, 12 March 2012 15:40 (fourteen years ago)

Today so far at work: some of the lights went out, all of the lights went out, the Internet went out, all of the lights came back on, the Internet came back, some of the lights went out again.

Also there is a rally in support of Rod Blagojevich on Wednesday if anybohahahahahahaha I can even finish that sentence.

carl agatha, Monday, 12 March 2012 15:42 (fourteen years ago)

today so far at work: our marketing person sent out a word document of all of the tweets about an event we had last week, instead of just providing the hashtag and a link to twitter.com (i would guess at the request of some less tech-savvy management staff)

congratulations (n/a), Monday, 12 March 2012 15:45 (fourteen years ago)

Anyone seen The Chicagoan? Sounds promising:

Yeah, I actually went to Unabridged Books to buy a copy but then I realized it was $20 and so I bought a book instead

roy g. devoe (askance johnson), Monday, 12 March 2012 15:53 (fourteen years ago)

It looks pretty cool, but I don't know if I'm ready to shell out $20 for it.

$20 an issue?!

Laura Lucy Lynn (La Lechera), Monday, 12 March 2012 16:04 (fourteen years ago)

is there still potentially interest for pub quiz tomorrow?

congratulations (n/a), Monday, 12 March 2012 16:05 (fourteen years ago)

Ja wohl.
