You probably missed out on MCM. It sold out in like 5 seconds.

Jeff, Wednesday, 7 March 2012 23:17 (fourteen years ago)

Actually, it was sold out in 2 hours 41 minutes.

Jeff, Wednesday, 7 March 2012 23:17 (fourteen years ago)

That's fast, it took Chicago 6 days to sell out this year.

Jeff, Wednesday, 7 March 2012 23:18 (fourteen years ago)

Yeah I was in the middle of my run this afternoon and it dawned in me that I was missing the sign-up. Would kinda rather do a smaller race anyway. MCM seems like a mobscene.

tobo73, Wednesday, 7 March 2012 23:27 (fourteen years ago)

I've done a 700 ppl marathon and a 38,000 people one. I'd probably like somewhere in the middle.

Jeff, Thursday, 8 March 2012 01:08 (fourteen years ago)

well, i'm a lot lazier than most of you, but i finally managed to get off my ass and run today! i also got some new shoes this evening, so hopefully i should be able to avoid the ankle injury that ended my short-lived running season last fall.

1986 Olive Garden (Z S), Tuesday, 20 March 2012 00:11 (fourteen years ago)

does anyone use runkeeper? if so, let me know and maybe we can be on a "team"? (basically that just means everyone can see each other's routes/times, etc. works for walking/biking and other kinds of exercise too, not just running)

1986 Olive Garden (Z S), Tuesday, 20 March 2012 00:12 (fourteen years ago)

a couple of us signed up for daily mile a bit ago, but I don't know if anyone is still updating it

My house is directly behind the moon I am bored (los blue jeans), Tuesday, 20 March 2012 00:19 (fourteen years ago)

my daily mile was sick for like a month

lag∞n, Tuesday, 20 March 2012 00:29 (fourteen years ago)

I'm still an active dailymile member.

Jeff, Tuesday, 20 March 2012 00:36 (fourteen years ago)

Even though I haven't logged a workout recently.

Jeff, Tuesday, 20 March 2012 00:37 (fourteen years ago)

i havent used my satellite watch in forever

lag∞n, Tuesday, 20 March 2012 00:38 (fourteen years ago)

need to train for something intense

lag∞n, Tuesday, 20 March 2012 00:38 (fourteen years ago)

have been really diligent lately! got some serious ground to make up, though. the medium route felt looooooooong today and i got a stitch in my side.

Paul Smon (La Lechera), Tuesday, 27 March 2012 14:24 (fourteen years ago)

after running only 3 times, my heel pain is back. :-/

1986 tallest hair contest (Z S), Tuesday, 27 March 2012 14:25 (fourteen years ago)

this never happened to me when i was younger, ever, and i even went out and bought really nice shoes for this year. ach.

1986 tallest hair contest (Z S), Tuesday, 27 March 2012 14:26 (fourteen years ago)

r u a heel striker

lag∞n, Tuesday, 27 March 2012 14:26 (fourteen years ago)

Went for my first run in a month on Sunday. Starting to think that I'm about finished with running. Need to find a substitute physical activity.

Jeff, Tuesday, 27 March 2012 14:27 (fourteen years ago)

damn

lag∞n, Tuesday, 27 March 2012 14:29 (fourteen years ago)

i refuse to believe that's possible

Paul Smon (La Lechera), Tuesday, 27 March 2012 14:34 (fourteen years ago)

I am running all the time at the moment. All the damn time.

Valéry Giscard d'Staind (NickB), Tuesday, 27 March 2012 14:36 (fourteen years ago)

RE: heel pain, I've had great luck with switching to minimalist shoes that are supposed to shift your foot strike from heel to mid-foot. Mine are Brooks Pure Flows, but I'm sure there are other options. Combined with Smart Feet insoles. Have been steadily increasing mileage while pain has been steadily decreasing.

tobo73, Tuesday, 27 March 2012 18:26 (fourteen years ago)

I'm a little irritated because I even got my stride "examined" at CitySports (they were supposed to do some sort of video/computer analysis, but in reality the guy was just like "walk over there...ok, now walk back...ok, you need Stability shoes") to avoid this kind of problem.

1986 tallest hair contest (Z S), Tuesday, 27 March 2012 18:34 (fourteen years ago)

i am thinking of doing a 5k race on 6/24 and there is an option to pay $25 extra so you can do the 8-week group training thing, which is once a week on a hs track for an hour. is that gonna be cool or lame? might be helpful but i am shy

kim tim jim investor (harbl), Saturday, 31 March 2012 19:52 (fourteen years ago)

Starting to get back into running again. I ran three times in the past week, somehow I'm not sore at all, I must be running "safer" this time around or something (long term muscle memory?)

I need new clothes + shoes like yesterday.

NoTimeBeforeTime, Saturday, 31 March 2012 20:09 (fourteen years ago)

Did a 5K today after 10 days without running a step due to a suspected stress fracture. Got to the finish line but could barely walk afterward. Still suspect I have a stress fracture.

boxall, Saturday, 31 March 2012 20:22 (fourteen years ago)

Health keeps breaking my routine but I ran 5 miles this morning, felt in great shape and the only real battle was against nipple-chafe cos the hot weather had me wearing diff clothes. Might actually buy those little rubber guards.

I'm going to allow this! (LocalGarda), Sunday, 1 April 2012 12:22 (fourteen years ago)

Get them soon before Cameron's tax on pasties comes into effect.

I think it would be good! Things like that are great if you need a little more motivation to run or if you want to hook up with other people to run with or if you want to push yourself just a little bit harder (this kind of happens without you necessarily realising it at the time tbh) or just for a change of scene. Would guess it would be a whole range of different abilities too.

Valéry Giscard d'Staind (NickB), Sunday, 1 April 2012 13:33 (fourteen years ago)

So this time last year I though it would be a good idea to enter the Brighton marathon figuring that I would have plenty of time to get over the niggling injury I had and get myself fit ...and now all of a sudden it's in two days time and I've only done about about ten weeks of running. Don't actually feel in that bad shape and pretty sure I'll get round but there are some seriously jangly nerves going on here right now.

French Cricket in the USA (NickB), Friday, 13 April 2012 14:04 (fourteen years ago)

just take is easy youll be fine, ten weeks is not that bad

lag∞n, Friday, 13 April 2012 14:07 (fourteen years ago)

Seriously, as long as you don't feel hurt, you'll finish fine.

Jeff, Friday, 13 April 2012 14:10 (fourteen years ago)

Only 177 days to the Chicago Marathon. Still only doing about 6 miles a week.

Jeff, Friday, 13 April 2012 14:11 (fourteen years ago)

it's cool since u have 177 days

lag∞n, Friday, 13 April 2012 14:19 (fourteen years ago)

Yeah, my race tactic is to take it easy and just jog around annoying people by KIP and chatting to them a lot.

French Cricket in the USA (NickB), Friday, 13 April 2012 14:26 (fourteen years ago)

haha yes

lag∞n, Friday, 13 April 2012 14:29 (fourteen years ago)

i signed up for the 5k and the training thing, which starts 4/30. i'm sad about what bad shape i'm still in! i used to be able to run for a pretty long time but now i am back to doing run/walk intervals. i did 5 min run, 1 min walk for a half hour yesterday though, which is not bad. i'm pretty sure i can actually run 5k continuously on flatter ground but the route i run on has a big long hill which causes me to believe i can't run for that long because it's hard.

kneel aurmstrong (harbl), Saturday, 14 April 2012 16:05 (fourteen years ago)

7.6 miles yday, longest I've done in about 18 months, last time I was doing that sort of distance was pre-shin splints which laid me up for 6 months last year.

So gonna be careful this time, though I am really pleased/surprised at how utterly solid and pain free my legs are in the last few months.

I'm going to allow this! (LocalGarda), Sunday, 15 April 2012 08:15 (fourteen years ago)

London marathon next weekend! I'm way off peak fitness but I'll get round. Had a few races recently so I'll hopefully be sharp enough.

^ artfully hiding my thousand yard stare. Best greasy and slightly undercooked seafront chips EVER though. Got round in 3.26, last four miles was v v grim. Walking around like I've got two metal legs of slightly different lengths now.

French Cricket in the USA (NickB), Sunday, 15 April 2012 20:55 (fourteen years ago)

That's fast! Not bad for 10 weeks.

Seandalai, how did you doooo?

Friends of Mr Caeiro (NickB), Tuesday, 24 April 2012 13:01 (fourteen years ago)

I got round :) I was about 10 minutes off my PB but I'll take it after a bad year in which I almost gave up running completely. Had some novel pain experiences caused (I think) by tying overly narrow shoes too tightly - for about two hours after the finish I couldn't put any weight on my right foot without screaming in pain and perturbing the people around me. Anyway, London's still my favourite marathon to run, the atmosphere is, as they say, unforgettable.

NSFW Australia (seandalai), Tuesday, 24 April 2012 16:38 (fourteen years ago)

Aww good stuff! Have done London twice in the dim and distant past (about ten years ago or something) and yes, the crowds were amazing then too. Hope you're recovering alright. Tuesday was the worst day last week for me as far as fatigue goes - the bruising comes out and all the excitement wears off.

Friends of Mr Caeiro (NickB), Tuesday, 24 April 2012 16:55 (fourteen years ago)

nice1 dude!

lag∞n, Wednesday, 25 April 2012 03:48 (fourteen years ago)

today i started the running group thing i mentioned upthread and it was actually fun! i hadn't run very far yet this year because of where i run there is a big hill that causes me to quit when i'm done but on the flat i managed to cover 3 miles and did better than all but like 2 people. i am proud!
