it's free birth control silly, which means stealing gajillions in tax revenues from hard-working plutocrats

Birth control is free in the US? Really?
― Tuomas, Wednesday, 7 March 2012 13:39 (fourteen years ago)
It will, in the future, be covered by all health insurance plans. So, for some people who don't pay for their health insurance, yes, but for most, who do in one form or another, no.

i mean, i hope the cartoonist knows that birth control pills are not actually inserted into a woman's uterus, for starters

birth control is a useful medication that helps keep health costs lower on the national levelequating birth control with "paying for you to have sex" is so tremendously fucked I don't even know where to starti know this isn't the thread for this stuff but that whole line of argument makes me so goddamn angry

oh man, do you get it? it's funny bc leftists think they're so tolerant but they'll still cheer when terrible person dies and complain about sexists. what fucking hypocrites.
― Mordy, Wednesday, 7 March 2012 20:48 (fourteen years ago)
My favourite right-wing line of attack: Oh you lefties say you're so TOLERANT and COMPASSIONATE and DECENT but sometimes you are not those things, whereas we're happy to be total shits 24 hours a day, which makes us morally better if you think about it.
― Suede - the fabric, not the band (DL), Wednesday, 7 March 2012 20:58 (fourteen years ago)
Mordy, I hate to break it to you, but cheering at a person's death is still considered extremely rude by large swaths of humanity, unless that person was objectively as terrible as your average serial killer, and even then you should keep the cheers to a brief and decorous, unless you were related to that person's victims.
― Aimless, Wednesday, 7 March 2012 21:01 (fourteen years ago)
Haven't been tuned into politics the last few days. Was there a bunch of cheering? Or is this the usual finding a couple jerks on the other side and blowing it out of proportion?
― (he did what!) (Austerity Ponies), Wednesday, 7 March 2012 21:04 (fourteen years ago)
Probably the usual couple of jerks blown out of proportion. I didn't see much of it, although I saw much satisfaction expressed, which is a milder form of the same thing. But here Mordy seemed to be sliding toward saying that actual cheering was justified in Beetbort's case, because he was "terrible".
― Aimless, Wednesday, 7 March 2012 21:09 (fourteen years ago)
There was a lot of crowing on Twitter and a couple of high-profile writers - Taibbi, Yglesias - who took the reap-what-you-sow line, esp irt to Breitbart's comments on Ted Kennedy's death. I was with the latter.

That's pretty in line with the main message behind modern Conservatism: "I am a victim."
― Emperor Cos Dashit (Adam Bruneau), Wednesday, 7 March 2012 21:35 (fourteen years ago)
Reload this entire thread, I'm pretty sure 90% of the cartoons can be boiled down to that essential message.
― Emperor Cos Dashit (Adam Bruneau), Wednesday, 7 March 2012 21:37 (fourteen years ago)
By your own admission, expression satisfaction is just a milder version of cheering, so let's not get all excited about parsing the thinnest of lines.

I'd venture the vast majority of human sexual activity is recreational. Like, does everyone stop having sex after they don't want any more kids?

Bridget R.: “I’ll play devils advocate and ask anyone to give me an example of other presidents talking in the media about a local murder case. I’ll wait.”
speculating wildly but i would assume Reagan got asked about Bernie Goetz, Clinton about OJ, and not to mention presidents talking in the media about local medical cases (every abortion ever) ugh why i am i arguing with the internet about some idiot quoted as making a comment about a cartoon
