Steve Guttenberg is painfull to watch.

I bet it was the Beave who sabotaged the bus~

Leeeeeeeeee (Leee), Monday, 10 October 2005 00:19 (eighteen years ago) link

guttenberg is killing me but kevin smith's turn in this was actually pretty good ("and then I read something online...")

I thought this ep was great - it's going to be hard for the second series to be as jaw-droppingly great as the first, given that it was new back then but it's really working on it

cozen (Cozen), Monday, 10 October 2005 18:38 (eighteen years ago) link

See what happens when I don't bump the thread?

Tonight's was a lot better than last week.

Melissa W (Melissa W), Thursday, 13 October 2005 03:32 (eighteen years ago) link

It seems more action-packed this season, with a lot more of plot twists. Since they don't need as many scenes to establish stuff like Veronica's relationship with her dad, the episodes (in particular this one) have been very well-paced. The best part is that a lot of dynamics are gonna shift drastically, like blonde surfer dude totally hating on Veronica for bringing down her dad, his best friend for doing his dad's wife and his brother for being such a spineless rat.

They've also separated the Casablancas storyline and the bus crash one (by seemingly directing it towards Aaron Echolls), at least momentarily. In fact, there hasn't been as many standalones. As a result, there are a lot of different storylines being advanced each episode, probably all towards one single denouement.

I watched my first episode last night...this show is good. I wish I would've been on the bandwagon sooner!

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Friday, 14 October 2005 00:01 (eighteen years ago) link

still love this show. I think the second season is doing a good job so far, I wasn't sure how it would play out. I havent watched the episode from last night yet though!!! I think I might go buy the first season dvd this weekend.

gunther heartymeal (keckles), Friday, 14 October 2005 00:24 (eighteen years ago) link

That was great, definitely the best episode I've seen thus far for pacing, dialogue and foreshadowing.

Are You Nomar? (miloaukerman), Friday, 14 October 2005 03:47 (eighteen years ago) link

i think they've hit their stride with a "formula" that kicks in some sort of resolution to a dangling plot issue some point mid-episode, but in a surprising way, then works its way up to a big cliffhanger at the end of each, so that it keeps feeding the "what next" addiction.

I'm surprised no one mentioned Courtney Taylor-Taylor's appearance, which is worth it just for Upstaged Karaoke Guy's and his girlfriend's reactions.

I don't see what happened when you didn't bump the thread. It gets revived a couple days late?

Leeeeeeeeee (Leee), Friday, 14 October 2005 17:09 (eighteen years ago) link

But whatever, don't mean to be a ho. Sorry.

I like this show! I make sure to watch it after Lost so as to end my TV night on a guaranteed high note.

Leeeeeeeeee (Leee), Friday, 14 October 2005 17:14 (eighteen years ago) link

was a GREAT episode

but was that the dandy warhols guy, lip sinking?

poor old beaver and his sad-face

cozen (Cozen), Friday, 14 October 2005 17:42 (eighteen years ago) link

The Music of Veronica Mars says yes! Except that he wasn't lip syncing, I don't think!

Was VM this indie last season?

Leeeeeeeeee (Leee), Friday, 14 October 2005 17:51 (eighteen years ago) link

OH I didn't think he was lip syncing

cozen (Cozen), Friday, 14 October 2005 17:52 (eighteen years ago) link

Wait, why was there like 5 minutes of random karaoke in the middle of the show this week? Just because they can get a guy from the Dandy Warhols?

The Yellow Kid, Friday, 14 October 2005 17:53 (eighteen years ago) link

yeah I dunno

cozen (Cozen), Friday, 14 October 2005 17:53 (eighteen years ago) link

Buffy did that on occasion. I guess it helps pay the bills or something.

Is it just me or is the new girl from New York an atrocious actress? That's the one element that gets to me sometimes - the unmistakable air of low-budget TVdom, complete with F-list actors (Harry Hamlin, teh Guttenberg) and tiny locations. They would have been better off casting at least the latter to a complete unknown (I haven't watched my first season DVDs, maybe Hamlin's awesome). At least they don't have to skimp on monster costumes (ala Buffy on UPN).

Are You Nomar? (miloaukerman), Friday, 14 October 2005 17:57 (eighteen years ago) link

I somehow taped abc family all morning. So instead of getting to watch Veronica Mars I was faced with instead, HOURS OF FULL HOUSE. So I am downloading the episode right now and have to wait forever again.

gunther heartymeal (keckles), Friday, 14 October 2005 17:58 (eighteen years ago) link

totally worth it!!

cozen (Cozen), Friday, 14 October 2005 17:59 (eighteen years ago) link

i am excited abt watching it tonight.

jeffrey (johnson), Friday, 14 October 2005 18:27 (eighteen years ago) link

maybe Hamlin's awesome

Strangely, he totally is.

Melissa W (Melissa W), Saturday, 15 October 2005 06:28 (eighteen years ago) link

ok, I agree, this episode was great. I like that he isn't hitting us in the head with what the main mystery is this year. There are kind of a lot of things going on, and it's making for a nice transition. Some great moments from this episode: that veronica LOVES unicorns, when duncan and logan have the talk after their fight. I just love logan's angst, still.

gunther heartymeal (keckles), Saturday, 15 October 2005 15:42 (eighteen years ago) link

i was right to be excited.

jeffrey (johnson), Saturday, 15 October 2005 17:21 (eighteen years ago) link

good but ruined, in a way, by the dandy warhols guy

what a mistake

RJG (RJG), Sunday, 16 October 2005 23:02 (eighteen years ago) link

sorry.

jeffrey (johnson), Sunday, 16 October 2005 23:07 (eighteen years ago) link

I downloaded the first season and watched it all this week and now I'm hooked and can't wait to get up to speed on the new season. What a great show.

polyphonic (polyphonic), Monday, 17 October 2005 06:50 (eighteen years ago) link

You just say that because it's set near San Diego!

Leeeeeeeeee (Leee), Monday, 17 October 2005 17:33 (eighteen years ago) link

It doesn't hurt. ;)

Whoa, someone on this board knew something about me.

I like the fact that when they go to Mexico, they never go any further than Ensenada, which is basically the exact story of me and all my friends.

polyphonic (polyphonic), Monday, 17 October 2005 18:18 (eighteen years ago) link

All your Padres big upping is what set it in stone. ; )

Do people here know that Weevil is FRANK CAPRA'S grandson?

Leeeeeeeeee (Leee), Monday, 17 October 2005 18:28 (eighteen years ago) link

It's that time again.

Melissa W (Melissa W), Wednesday, 19 October 2005 22:27 (eighteen years ago) link

Do people know that Weevil was in Shaquille O'Neal's Kazaam!?

polyphonic (polyphonic), Wednesday, 19 October 2005 22:29 (eighteen years ago) link

He was also in one of the Free Willy movies.

Melissa W (Melissa W), Wednesday, 19 October 2005 22:45 (eighteen years ago) link

I love it when Sheriff Mars gets physical with a perp. They switch to a super-wide lens, get all hand-held and he goes crazy for a couple of minutes. So much better than any cop show still on TV.

Are You Nomar? (miloaukerman), Sunday, 23 October 2005 06:43 (eighteen years ago) link

Melissa's falling down on the job.

Are You Nomar? (miloaukerman), Thursday, 27 October 2005 04:00 (eighteen years ago) link

I blame me.

REALLY good episode, which is the par, it seems!

Leeeeeeeeee (Leee), Thursday, 27 October 2005 04:08 (eighteen years ago) link

It's amazing how much more I enjoy a show when I actually care about the characters. Lost had better get good fast or I'm switching to VM full time.

Are You Nomar? (miloaukerman), Thursday, 27 October 2005 04:13 (eighteen years ago) link

I watched the dvd. This show is consistantly better than Lost with less annoying characters. The directors of Lost have no sense of pacing. I also love Logan, though find him unattractive. Just goes to show how much girls love assholes.

Mendoza Lineman (Carey), Thursday, 27 October 2005 15:09 (eighteen years ago) link

enough of the adversarial LOST nonsense, please

c7n (Cozen), Thursday, 27 October 2005 16:38 (eighteen years ago) link

sorry carey!!

c7n (Cozen), Thursday, 27 October 2005 16:39 (eighteen years ago) link

Ha, I just realized what the Lost controversy was last night. They are on at the same time!

Mendoza Lineman (Carey), Thursday, 27 October 2005 17:01 (eighteen years ago) link

logan is like a better sawyer who I dislike more

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 27 October 2005 17:03 (eighteen years ago) link

I'd do him!

Mendoza Lineman (Carey), Thursday, 27 October 2005 17:20 (eighteen years ago) link

you are what's wrong with this world

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 27 October 2005 18:36 (eighteen years ago) link

SORRY RICARDO

Mendoza Lineman (Carey), Thursday, 27 October 2005 21:31 (eighteen years ago) link

They did indulge in one awful dramatic cliche - one person walking in as another person does somethign that the first person said not to do (Veronica harassing the new girl), but mysteriously they're never able to communicate the Very Good Reason that it happened.

Are You Nomar? (miloaukerman), Thursday, 27 October 2005 22:07 (eighteen years ago) link

I don't think Wallace walked in per se -- he was just standing in an obscured place. But yeah, V's reaction was like, woh. But hahaha the meta! It really is Veronica Mars's world -- it's named after her!

Wallace dumped whatsherface, right? I already forget.

Leeeeeeeeee (Leee), Thursday, 27 October 2005 22:28 (eighteen years ago) link

series REALLY hitting its stride now

c7n (Cozen), Friday, 28 October 2005 19:24 (eighteen years ago) link

I watched the '80s dance/Meg/mobster episode last night - holy shit, so good. I think it took five or six episodes to really get in a groove, but at this point (and including S2), it might be my favorite television show ever.

Are You Nomar? (miloaukerman), Friday, 28 October 2005 19:31 (eighteen years ago) link

that was a pretty special episode.
