Ismael Klata, Saturday, 3 March 2012 14:36 (fourteen years ago)

Bergkamp-esque

Upt0eleven, Saturday, 3 March 2012 14:37 (fourteen years ago)

lol even tho it doesn't suit

Streep? That's where I'm a-striking! (darraghmac), Saturday, 3 March 2012 14:37 (fourteen years ago)

Still the second leg for Liverpool to get back into this.

James Mitchell, Saturday, 3 March 2012 14:37 (fourteen years ago)

That was really hopeless. Still in the race for 7th though.

Ismael Klata, Saturday, 3 March 2012 14:42 (fourteen years ago)

I can quite happily deal with a LFC that plays like this. Admittedly Arsenal are poor but even so we were really v good today.

pandemic, Saturday, 3 March 2012 14:44 (fourteen years ago)

Henderson was great today, but contriving to lose that game was really the story of LFC's season.

Stevie T, Saturday, 3 March 2012 14:44 (fourteen years ago)

Still in the hunt for third.

Upt0eleven, Saturday, 3 March 2012 14:45 (fourteen years ago)

All that's really needed is to campaign FIFA to widen the goals by 1cm for next season and we'll win the league. Happy days.

pandemic, Saturday, 3 March 2012 14:45 (fourteen years ago)

what team does IK support?

the pinefox, Saturday, 3 March 2012 14:57 (fourteen years ago)

looks like LFC here but last week he seemed to be glorying in Arsenal's result

that's not very nice of him.

the pinefox, Saturday, 3 March 2012 14:58 (fourteen years ago)

Liverpool, pinefox, but I became an Arsenal member this season on a technicality. I went along to the Arsenal-Spurs game last week but was more bewildered than anything; there was no glorying by me.

Ismael Klata, Saturday, 3 March 2012 15:06 (fourteen years ago)

Well maybe a bit, it *was* rather good fun.

Ismael Klata, Saturday, 3 March 2012 15:06 (fourteen years ago)

Ritual sacrifice of Diaby prob worth it if this result leads to Arsenal getting forth place

not lazy but clowning (Suedey 2), Saturday, 3 March 2012 15:12 (fourteen years ago)

nah cuz then van persie will score five a game.

shart practice (Merdeyeux), Saturday, 3 March 2012 15:26 (fourteen years ago)

van persie....in the EPL....next season?

jabba hands, Saturday, 3 March 2012 15:44 (fourteen years ago)

lol fair point, that

LFC were good today, arsenal were good on counter, draw would've been fairer, lfc win fairer still. Like kelly v much.

Ismael Klata, Saturday, 3 March 2012 16:55 (fourteen years ago)

Is Chelsea-Napoli this week?

Ismael Klata, Saturday, 3 March 2012 17:33 (fourteen years ago)

No, FA Cup replay this week, then Stoke, Napoli and Man City.

Ismael Klata, Saturday, 3 March 2012 18:09 (fourteen years ago)

just saw the result: WBA 1-0 Chelsea

what a tremendous win for Roy Hodgson's team.

the pinefox, Saturday, 3 March 2012 23:42 (fourteen years ago)

two fine goals for sigurdsson in swansea's win at wigan. first one was placed perfectly in the top corner.

mizzell, Saturday, 3 March 2012 23:55 (fourteen years ago)

I just woke from a dream where I learned on here that Villas-Boas had been sacked. I announced the news as I was walking into a room, only to find when I got in that avb himself was there. He was devastated, he'd had no idea. I felt terrible.

The next day (Villas-Boas, embarrassingly, not having been fired) I was buttonholed in a bar for ages by Thomas Vermaelen about how unhappy he was underachieving with Arsenal - "I'll go anywhere, even Rangers". He was very acne-scarred. The missus and conferred for an instant and decided Liverpool would be perfect for him, which was handy because when we looked up he was buttonholing Kenny Dalglish about the same thing instead. Just thought I should pass it along.

Ismael Klata, Sunday, 4 March 2012 07:22 (fourteen years ago)

next time you're asleep could you pass on a message to John Terry?

Finding it increasingly hard to imagine QPR staying up. Went through the fixtures the other day and decided that if all players played to the peak of their ability, we might get 16 points more. Then looked at how many points I thought we actually would get. It was 2. Starting with a home draw against Everton.

This season I reckon we might see a side stay up with 30 points.

Viva Brother Beyond (ithappens), Sunday, 4 March 2012 09:56 (fourteen years ago)

That sounds all-too-plausible, except that QPR looked pretty good on the highlights. Blackburn and Wolves should get past 30 easily enough I reckon, the question is whether any of the others can stay with them.

xp haha, that's excellent!

Ismael Klata, Sunday, 4 March 2012 10:12 (fourteen years ago)

They looked pretty good in the ground. Couldn't finish though. And the run-in includes City, United and Chelsea away, and Spurs, Liverpool and Arsenal at home.

Viva Brother Beyond (ithappens), Sunday, 4 March 2012 10:15 (fourteen years ago)

tbf, those last three are winnable

Streep? That's where I'm a-striking! (darraghmac), Sunday, 4 March 2012 10:18 (fourteen years ago)

Blackburn's run-in's interesting, with three games that will either save them or damn them - Wolves away, Bolton away and Wigan at home. They'v also still got United, Liverpool, Spurs and Chelsea to come. Bolton have only got Spurs of the big clubs (at home), plus Newcastle away. Their crucial games are all this month - QPR next week, then Blackburn and Wolves on consecutive weekends. I think Wigan are going to be destroyed by successive games against Stoke, Chelsea, Man U and Arsenal, and their last two - Blackburn and Wolves - will be too late. Can't see Wolves getting a point in April, so this month is crucial for them.

Viva Brother Beyond (ithappens), Sunday, 4 March 2012 10:21 (fourteen years ago)

xpost I don't think they are, really. No chance of beating Spurs, and it would require Liverpool or Arsenal to have massive off-days. I know it happens, but not often enough for me to realistically expect anything from those games.

Viva Brother Beyond (ithappens), Sunday, 4 March 2012 10:22 (fourteen years ago)

the no of times 'spurs' keeps coming up gladdens me til i remember that we'll be playing a lot of teams fighting for epl lives come season's end, which mightn't suit us.

Streep? That's where I'm a-striking! (darraghmac), Sunday, 4 March 2012 10:38 (fourteen years ago)

if we continue to play like we did last Saturday then i think there are points to be had in April. my biggest question at the moment is "was last week a blip?" today will be another decent test, and it won't be about points so much as putting another convincing performance together. it'll be interesting to see whether he changes last week's side to accommodate Fletcher or Bassong, i don't think it'd be mad to play 2 up front at Fulham. but we must continue to pass the ball to feet and get men into the box, not return to the kick and chase shite we were playing under Mick.

Mo Money Mo Johnston (Noodle Vague), Sunday, 4 March 2012 10:40 (fourteen years ago)

Suarez is a cunt but that mazy run through the Arsenal back line yesterday was astonishing.

Homosexual Satan Wasp (Matt DC), Sunday, 4 March 2012 11:00 (fourteen years ago)

It was amazing how many times he took it through Koscielny, I think it was, with a single touch when cutting in. It was nothing flash either, there must be a quirk in his body language that completely throws defenders.

Ismael Klata, Sunday, 4 March 2012 11:15 (fourteen years ago)

I see that there is some QPR documentary on the Beeb tonight. May be worth a watch on iplayer.
Gylfi Sigurdsson is a lovely player. Would happily have him at LFC if Hoffenheim don't want him back at the end of the season. Not that I make the decisions at Anfield tbh.

pandemic, Sunday, 4 March 2012 11:18 (fourteen years ago)

The Four Year Plan is worth watching whatever your feelings about QPR: a startling insight into just how badly a football club can be run. There are some genuinely jaw dropping bits in there.

Here's the trailer:

Viva Brother Beyond (ithappens), Sunday, 4 March 2012 11:21 (fourteen years ago)

I think Wigan are just too poor to stay up and it looks like all the fight's gone out of Bolton now, they seem to just stand aside and let teams win. Coyle and Martinez just have so much residual goodwill towards them that people seem to be barely batting an eyelid at the prospect of them taking reasonably well established Premiership teams down so limply.

Of the remaining three, fuck knows who. Blackburn seem to have the most ability to wring out an astonishing result and QPR may just have enough talent in their squad. God knows about Wolves.

Homosexual Satan Wasp (Matt DC), Sunday, 4 March 2012 11:23 (fourteen years ago)

yeah.

can Villa still slide into this morass? McLeish looks like a dude capable of inspiring a tailspin to me.

Mo Money Mo Johnston (Noodle Vague), Sunday, 4 March 2012 11:25 (fourteen years ago)

Really looking fwd to Four Year Plan

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 4 March 2012 11:27 (fourteen years ago)

Villa are too far ahead. There was an interesting piece in WSC about the ennui from fans around Boundary Park, after a decade labouring in a division they've got no chance of winning. The feeling was they wouldn't mind a crack at the championship.

Ismael Klata, Sunday, 4 March 2012 11:29 (fourteen years ago)

lol Boundary Park, is that even right?

Ismael Klata, Sunday, 4 March 2012 11:30 (fourteen years ago)

just checked Villa's run-in. we'll see.

Mo Money Mo Johnston (Noodle Vague), Sunday, 4 March 2012 11:33 (fourteen years ago)

Unless you're talking about Oldham, then no
xp

pandemic, Sunday, 4 March 2012 11:33 (fourteen years ago)

Boundary Park's Oldham. Do you mean Ewood? You can't mean Villa Park? Villa fans surely don't fancy a crack at the Championship?

Viva Brother Beyond (ithappens), Sunday, 4 March 2012 11:34 (fourteen years ago)

Of the remaining relegation-threatened teams, Villa only have to play Bolton, so the potential for six-pointers is pretty low. They still have Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, United and Spurs to play though, plus games against clubs like Norwich, Fulham and Sunderland who you'd expect to comfortably take them down.
