Not TCM but Sundance is doing an Antonioni fest right now. I turned it on and The Passenger was on, to be followed immediately by L'Eclisse, and L'Aventura at 5:45 (following som eother stuff). West coast times.

old travel films

Is that a ref to To Catch a Thief?

The best thing about those locs is Grace speeding along the road where she'd plummet 30 years later...

Dr Morbius, Saturday, 15 December 2007 21:42 (sixteen years ago) link

The elusive Theodora Goes Wild is showing tonight at ten as part of the Irene Dunne festival.

James Redd and the Blecchs, Thursday, 20 December 2007 22:56 (sixteen years ago) link

Is that a ref to To Catch a Thief?

the whole night was location-oriented, but there actually were some brief old travel clips prior to it

gabbneb, Thursday, 20 December 2007 23:01 (sixteen years ago) link

I'm reading an excellent novel by David Dodge, author of To Catch A Thief, called The Last Match, which also takes place partly in the Riviera, among other exotic locales. I'll bet the book of TCaT is better than the movie.

James Redd and the Blecchs, Thursday, 20 December 2007 23:09 (sixteen years ago) link

Why dint you bitches tell me Saturday Night and Sunday Morning was going to be on?

Was it, like, any good?

Dickerson Pike, Saturday, 22 December 2007 05:22 (sixteen years ago) link

Dr Morbius, Wednesday, 2 January 2008 14:58 (sixteen years ago) link

I actually stayed up all last night through rollerball/terminator/THE WARRIORS. it was worth it.

El Tomboto, Wednesday, 2 January 2008 19:28 (sixteen years ago) link

I don't get how The Warriors is futuristic. It's set in Never Never Land!

Dr Morbius, Wednesday, 2 January 2008 20:12 (sixteen years ago) link

I only saw a Ralph Richardson scene in Rollerball! Who knew?

Dr Morbius, Wednesday, 2 January 2008 20:13 (sixteen years ago) link

El Tomboto, Saturday, 5 January 2008 01:40 (sixteen years ago) link

Hm. Apparently the Ovation Channel has something called Destination Arthouse on Saturday where they show Janus Films. Tonight will be Ikiru. Lots of commercials but...

James Redd and the Blecchs, Friday, 11 January 2008 22:28 (sixteen years ago) link

Didn't see either. Breaking weekend silence to say: Val Lewton doc presented by Scorsese and directed by Ken Jones is on Monday at 8, "Followed by a Ten-Film Marathon."

James Redd and the Blecchs, Monday, 14 January 2008 02:35 (sixteen years ago) link

remy bean, Monday, 14 January 2008 03:08 (sixteen years ago) link

I DVRed The Woman In White a while back during their salute to Eleanor Parker and I am finally peeping it out. I didn't know Robert Burks got his start as a special effects photographer.

James Redd and the Blecchs, Monday, 14 January 2008 04:32 (sixteen years ago) link

There's a familiar-looking UK character actor that I couldn't place for a while, but I just figured it out- he played some kind of Alien Alderman on Star Trek TOS.

James Redd and the Blecchs, Monday, 14 January 2008 04:34 (sixteen years ago) link

John Abbott. Not quite as long a resume as Mr. Atoz, Ian Wolfe, but still kept pretty busy.

James Redd and the Blecchs, Monday, 14 January 2008 04:39 (sixteen years ago) link

Lewton doc should be good. Apparently he wrote pornography.

Dr Morbius, Monday, 14 January 2008 14:09 (sixteen years ago) link

They should get Robert Osborne and Carrie Fisher to read some of it.

Rock Hardy, Monday, 14 January 2008 14:58 (sixteen years ago) link

some idiot TV reviewer said it was porn; apparently just pulp. Nice to see Kiyoshi Kurosawa testifying!

Cagney musicals tom'w night include at least two better than the Cohan one: Footlight Parade and Love Me Or Leave Me.

Dr Morbius, Tuesday, 15 January 2008 15:29 (sixteen years ago) link

Perhaps it's finally time to catch up with The 7 Faces of Dr. Lao.

James Redd and the Blecchs, Friday, 8 February 2008 21:23 (sixteen years ago) link

A pretty dull weekend slate. I haven't seen Voyage Of The Damned in 31 years...

Dr Morbius, Friday, 8 February 2008 21:28 (sixteen years ago) link

I think I saw Faye Dunaway's cheekbones in the photo over there. Was that movie promoted with one of those disaster movie posters with a Hollywood Squares grid featuring all the stars at the bottom?

James Redd and the Blecchs, Friday, 8 February 2008 21:31 (sixteen years ago) link

Well---does Apocalypse Now count? 1:15 AM EST

dow, Saturday, 9 February 2008 04:54 (sixteen years ago) link

I wonder how the censorship doc was (old)?

Dr Morbius, Tuesday, 4 March 2008 20:33 (sixteen years ago) link

I watched the 2nd half of that -- not bad. Gable was a real badass. I'm fascinated by pre-Code Hollywood, the racier the better. (xpost)

Rock Hardy, Tuesday, 4 March 2008 20:38 (sixteen years ago) link
